  1. A few years ago my son was at University in Leeds, so I did a tour of the city’s (then) 2 or 3 existing model shops. So this place does exist as a bricks and mortar shop, but I’ve never purchased from them and have no idea of their service levels etc.
  2. I like the 1/18 Bburago kits, I still have quite a few in my stash and continue to search out the rarer ones. You are correct in that really they are not much more than deconstructed die-casts, but for me they hark back to an era when even Dinky made a few kits and their simplicity is good when perhaps your modelling mojo is a bit low. I’m not sure how much detail is in the 1/24 models, but the 1/18s have plenty enough, and with a bit of paint detailing/weathering can turn out very nicely.
  3. Excellent photos, thank you. What I find amazing is how well the cars are displayed and how (seemingly) easy they are to photograph. No annoying barriers, or ropes, or ‘do not enter’ signs…. It seems as though you a free to wander right around most of them. I must visit……
  4. Fantastic build!, especially as its OOTB - which is a nice change and shows what can be done with the basic kit. Also appreciate your detailed intro to this post re the history of the car; that Stirling Moss anecdote is pretty amazing.
  5. Many of them have been reissued within the last decade, some very recently. Eg McLaren Brabham BT44 Renault Re30 (now Italeri), Lotus 49 & 72, Matra (just last year), Ferrari 312B, Tyrrell P34, Honda RA273. About the only ones not re-released so far are the Ferrari 641, and Lotus 78. the only problem is they are , of course, limited reissues - so you get approx 3 months to realise they are out there before they disappear again.
  6. Could you show us how the fibre optics are actually implemented/installed please? I presume there is a central white LED somewhere out of sight, and then optical fibres cable routing a ‘shaft’ of light from that to each instrument gauge.
  7. I never even new that a Jaguar existed! (I’m 56!)...but will have to buy a couple - one to make now, and to save to a possible conversion or aftermarket-update. Btw I have noticed that some retailer (eg Jadlam) already have it listed for pre-order, but at a few pounds more (£13.95) than the airfix rrp (£11.99). A bit odd, as they usually undercut a little bit. also looking forward to that Buggy.....
  8. Isn’t the problem with this the word ‘Apparently’ in the original post. It seems nobody here has yet bought the two items together as a discounted bundle - me included when I only got the magazine on its own today (no catalogue) in Tesco. let’s wait to see if such a discount does actually exist, then maybe there is a genuine cause for complaint (somewhere)
  9. I also had one nearly-new as my first car in 1982 or thereabouts. One of the first upgrades I did was to install electronic ignition (which I vaguely recall that I made from an electronics kit !!) - but it was utterly reliable and never let me down ( apart from a sticking starter motor). Regarding the model, it’s a lovely colour (in fact I’m sure I have an original Sud brochure which features the actual car in the same green shade) - and I also particularly love the number plate, although to nit-pick I’m fairly sure by the time that A-reg came around the actual car had been updated to have a rear opening hatchback (not a boot lid) and some other minor cosmetic differences. oh, and it’s also my all-time favourite, despite owning Golf GTi’s and BMW 5’s since.
  10. Have you tricked us all by photographing it next to a MASSIVE pencil? 😂. ...That is truly excellent detailed modelling and finishing.
  11. Wow, at forty thousand hours to built the initial prototype, this isn’t going to be cheap to buy! Better start saving now, and hope my 14year old Ford Focus can last just that bit longer....
  12. (Sorry, I’m a bit late to this one..) Roy, that is a *fantastic* find. Unless it’s in anyway sensitive, I’d love to know how and where you managed to come across a model like that. This is another thread I’m going to have to follow....
  13. I think it’s a gorgeous looking car, and your model (and the photography) is fantastically detailed .....and impressive. In the causes of balance, I offer one minor criticism, which is to work on removing the seams on the (front) tyres. Other than that, it’s perfect!
  14. Don’t forget to look for highly-priced items which are accepting offers. I’ve gotten a few this way...often means the seller has no idea of price, so is willing to let the buyer propose a market price.
  15. Looks fab! I can’t really tell from the photos - is that a grey finish, or more of a silver? (I’ve read threads elsewhere with lots of debate on the actual colour to use for this car) I started one of these around 1990, and 30years later it remains a WIP...😥
  16. I love *your* model, and I love that particular model - I also slaved over it, listening to Genesis, back in 1980 whilst doing my O-levels (which might partly explain why I was asked to ‘leave’ that particular school shortly after ( due to lack of academic achievement!). In fact the 312T3 and the Genesis song ‘Paperlate’ are forever tightly-bound in my memory. It is still now in my attic, in shoebox, in pieces... Can’t fault your build whatsoever (even post kitchen-drop); did you de-chrome the front/rear wings? (and wheels?) - they seem a bit less shiny than the kit ones. And, of course, it has to be in Gilles’ markings !
  17. Yeah, but the Sauber IS a beautiful car....that’s what counts for me!
  18. I’ve just seen one famous Scottish retailer listing this for ...(wait for it) ....£169 !!, whereas Hiroboy have (had!) it at £99, but now out of stock. What is very noticeable is how the box art seems to have been downgraded (from the original Trumpeter kit) to almost looking like a childs toy - the perspective is all over the place, and generic wording only.lie there is no mention of Ford or GT40...just. ‘US Sports car...24 hour endurance racing car’. sorry, I haven’t mastered posting pics to BM yet, but the box shot is available online under brand Magnifier (who they?).
  19. Fantastic! The first photo I honestly, honestly thought was the real thing - Ie you were posting a real pic so that we could compare against your model.
  20. There’s a similar sounding shop in Kings Langley, right by Junction 20 of the M25 called, unsurprisingly, Junction 20 models - tiny shop, mostly railways but reasonable supplies of modelling bits and piece ps and some interesting new and secondhand kits. (Haven’t checked myself if it has survived the Covid downtime).
  21. Perfect, and very quick work! maybe discuss with one of the admins if this could be pinned somewhere, and also if the editing rights could be opened up so that one person isn’t responsible for maintaining it - but on the other hand not so ‘public’ that it can be spoilt or hacked by anyone.
  22. It’s available at Hiroboy and Wonderland models (assuming you’re in the UK) - but it ain’t cheap at around £160gbp. btw - for some reason it’s being retailed as an Ebbro kit, not Tamiya.
  23. That is lovely, but from the side I would have sworn it was a Cortina Mk3 with its coke-bottle curves. would be interested to know how you manage to dismantle it - was the old (non-liquid) poly-cement used? in which case maybe you could break the parts apart.
  24. Fantastic work, and the models have aged really well, eg minimal yellowing of decals etc. (Do you keep them in the dark?) I really can’t pick a favourite...I love the F1 kits (that Matra is soon to be re-released) - but the ‘simplicity’ and innocent look of the Porsche gives it a certain je ne sais quoi.
  25. Nice thread, and as someone else said there was a similar one a few years back which became quite comprehensive. a good next step for someone with time 😉would IMHO to plot all the shops on a Google map - maybe that could then become a pinned topic/link. The difficulty of course, will be keeping it up to date - but it would be lovely to have a visual view of the distribution of shops.
