Hurricane IIc trop - SEAC 1/48 Hasegawa
Graham T replied to Jurek Greinert's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Wow! What a beauty!! -
I'm building this & considering which colour scheme to use (there is a LOT of choice with this kit, straight out of the box!). The colour schemes are not too clear on the kit instructions. I want to build ZA194 of 809 squadron July 82. According to the illustration in the instructions it was It wore the later "pale" scheme which if I understand correctly is over all Medium Sea Grey with Barley Grey on the lower flying surfaces (the MSG wrapping around the leading edges onto those lower surfaces) - is this correct? What colour were the pylons & tanks? I assume Barley Grey but am I right? It looks like the only national markings were the fuselage roundels (nothing on wings). Again is this right? TIA!

Apart from that, a nice kit! Beautiful build & nice weathering! -
Yep saw that review (albeit on FB) & made the purchase!

Received my modelling stand this morning from EBMA Hobby & Craft. After simple assembly (about 5mins with some wood glue), I pressed it straight into service with my 1/48 Hobbycraft P-80 & it looks like it's going to be am extremely useful piece of kit in the future! https://www.ebmahobby.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=71_74

Beauty. I've never seen a build of this kit before! -
Very nice & a good job of a teaching the nose which is a real PITA!

My final lockdown build before returning to work tomorrow! Airfix F8 built as an early production model (solid canopy, tabbed ailerons, small bore intakes). This is from the Korean War boxing but both issues of the F8 contain parts for making early & late versions. This is my third Airfix "Meatbox" & I have to say they are not "shake'n'bake" & I encountered what seemed different issues with this build than I seem to recall from the previous two! Here, the intakes were a tough ask to fit, requiring considerable trimming down of the "carry-through" of the wing leading edges before I got anything like an acceptable result. The two part nose is a PITA & there is something VERY weird about the main undercarriage & the pins/pegs for securing the wheels which appears to be different on both sides with different holes or slots provided on the wheels themselves. Take a look at these parts yourselves (anyone with the kit). Xtracolour High Speed Silver paint & decals from an old Xtradecal sheet for 257 squadron 1953. Also included a shot below of this, my other F8 (late) & FR9.

Hawker Hunter F.6 63(R) Squadron 1976

Very nice. I've built a couple of Airfix Hunters but still like the look of the Academy Hunter (with a shed load of AM) sitting on the shelf! -
Super Sabre!

Thanks. As I've already fitted the small bore intakes, 852 it is!

I'm building the Airfix F8 Korean War kit but as an RAF bird. The kit provides a choice of ailerons - with the single (early production) or twin (later production) trim tabs. I'm going to build either WL135 (245 sqdn 1955) or WA852 (257 sqdn 1953). Both have the small bore intakes but anyone any idea of which ailerons to use?

Thanks!.......only clean 'cos I suck at weathering! -
Not a bad kit part from the rather sparse seat & cockpit (hence the closed canopy) & goes together rapidly. You can fold the wings by cutting the wings along the well defined lines provided on the wing uppers & lowers & HB provide a rudimentary wing fold mechanism that attaches to the "open" end of the wings that result from the cut but curiously no corresponding part is provided for the folded portions so they remain "open"! Got a bit confused with the loadout too. The kit provides 2 each tanks, Sidewinders & Bullpups & states that the tanks are for the middle pylons with S/winders or Bullpups on the outer pylons but completely ignore the inboard pylons. I'm not an expert on the Fury but it's pretty obvious that the only store that will fit on the inner pylons is the Bullpup - anything else would foul the undercarriage so it's Bullpups, tanks & Sidewinders in that order! It's a complete tail sitter but not obviously so until you hang the tanks on! I ended up sticking lead weights down the intake & fabricated FOD covers (also for the tail pipe) to cover my mistake. Xtracolour enamels & decals from the kit (apart from those on the weapons - none are provided so I dug some out of the spares stock!).

Enjoyed that, some pretty weird & wonderful designs. My French isn't up to scratch I'm afraid so couldn't understand a great deal but that Bretagne(?) transporter was an attractive design. Also, near the beginning was something that LOOKED like an He-177 (in fact, I'm almost certain that it was a development of the 177 designed to improve upon the troublesome coupled pairs of engines on that design)) with four separate engine nacelles and a "piggy-back" mounted jet fighter that LOOKED similar to a Supermarine Swift. What was that?

Jaw dropping painting & weathering, still love the Hasegawa F-4s!

Revell (Monogram) F-101B 1/48
Graham T replied to Graham T's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Actually, I've just scored the RF version off ebay so I may nick the stab out of that for this model & think about swapping them over as & when I get around to the RF! That is unless someone has a spare part they're not using! -
Lovely work. Never knew KH did this subject!

My iPod contains everything from: The Hives to Handel, Grieg to Green Day, Steps to Shostokovich, Muse to Mendelshonn, The Hollies to Holst, Roxy Music to Rossini & pretty well everything in between. Yes, pretty eclectic! (My daughter found Taylor Swift on there the other day & her response was: "Taylor Swift? What are you?, a 12 year old girl?! )

1/48 Kitty Hawk Jaguar GR.1 6 Squadron
Graham T replied to At Sea's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Well wrestled into shape but remind me to avoid this kit! -
Last built this kit about 30 years ago. A year or so back, I had a crack at the KH recon version & that kit is a REAL dog so thought I'd give this a go to restore my faith. Not disappointed - it really is a very nice kit with beautifully detailed cockpits, u/c bays, flap & airbrakes. Raised panel lines of course but none the worse for that, just needs a bit of extra care during assembly in order reduce any sanding/filling to a minumum. The only issue I had was in trying to work out how the internal screen that separates the two cockpits along with the canopy jack are positioned & arranged. Some images from helpful BMers were provided in response to my pleas but I'm not entirely convinced I have them right. I lost the clear cover to the port-side lamp below the cockpits so knocked up a replacement from clear sheet. However I am ABSOLUTELY STEAMING THAT I LOST THE STARBOARD STABILISOR!! I had it painted & all ready to attach & it simply disappeared. I have applied to Revell for a replacement but it seems the kit is OOP & spares are no longer available . Anyway, still pleased with how it turned out!
