Adversaries in the Mediterranean

Two superb looking models there!! I always feel that trimotors were a bit anachronistic even at that time but the SM79 bucks the trend for me! Possibly the best torpedo bomber of the war! -

Ugly jet but a GREAT build!! -
Thanks for the responses! A few years back I built a Mirage 2000 & used RAF Dark Green & Dark Sea Grey & I'll probably do do again here as it looked OK to my eyes!

Will be making a start on the 1/48 Heller kit over the Christmas break. I have the kit, Neomega cockpit & replacement wheels but only the kit decals & colour call-outs! Can anyone advise regarding good matches for the Grey & Green airframe colours, also the basic cockpit interior colours? I'm sure I read before that RAF Dark Green & Darks Sea Grey were close enough for the camo - is this correct!

Watch out for the current DPD text claiming that you have missed two failed parcel deliveries & asking for your bank details in order to take payment for a third attempt!!!

Just finished this. If the PR9 was the "GT" Canberra then for my money the NF14 was the "GT" Meteor NF. There was a lot of speculation a while back that this might have been an unreleased Classic Airframes kit; certainly it is extremely reminiscent of CA in the box - the hard glossy grey plastic, the surface finish/engraving, the way the parts are laid out on the anonymous sprues, the large sprue gates etc. - probably enough to suggest that there was some common thinking or even personnel involved. Having built several CA Meteors in the past I can say that this builds up in a similar manner except that the fit of the intakes at least is far, far better. Also I recall that CA used resin for the nose u/c assembly which was better in detail but far too delicate for the job (especially for the more cack-handed builders among us!). In fact with this kit there is NO resin with everything moulded in plastic. The cockpit is quite nice if a little soft in detail but as it's pretty much all black this is not an issue for most builders. The supports for the R/O equipment between the front & rear positions is a bit fiddly & I lost the part that seems to represent a pair of plates that would be on either side of the pilot's head - possibly a head restraint?. No mention is made of nose weight in the instructions & in any case I assumed that the long nose of the NF14 meant it would not be necessary & so I thought right through the build process, painting & decalling, until I attached the tail planes!! ANOTHER for my tail sitter collection! Decals are good quality but the placement guide is not clear for the stencils & downright misleading in places! Painted in Xtracolour enamels. Not a bad kit.

Great pair of builds. Nicely weathered too! -
Fold the wings for space saving - unless you have the necessary space on the shelf!

A complete stunner! I'd be extremely proud of that, especially knowing what a struggle the kit is! -
Nice built. The subject looks like a Beaufighter mated with a Hampden! v

Nice work so far. Are you aware that the kit does NOT provide the AAR probe as I see you've left it open. I recently built the same kit & left MINE open intending to fit a deployed probe. Very disappointed to find it wasn't supplied & also had to fit the closed cover & repaint! Is there an AM product?

I've got this kit along with the Neomega cockpit & replacement wheels. I'll let you start & look out for tips!

Revell/Hasegawa Phantom FGR2 1/48

Thanks very much but I found it this afternoon whilst clearing the bench for the next project! -
A long time since I built a Hasegawa F-4 but just as good as I remember. The weak points are the cockpit (although still better then the much newer Academy kits IMHO) & a lack of stores (where the Academy kit is better IMHO). Anyway, I used the Aries cockpit which once you can get it to fit is a vast improvement although the etched seat belts were a real problem for me & I ended up with a pretty poor representation! Also from Aires are the jet nozzles which are far better than the kit parts but are very hard to fit, being much longer them the kit's plastic offerings. It's necessary to remove material from the flat bottom of each fuselage half (hidden by the lower wing when in place) & thin the plastic & I though that would be it BUT, they then foul the recesses for the auxiliary intakes that are present on the fuselage sides & peculiar to UK Phantoms. After puzzling over this I could discern no option but to shorten the internal tubes by about an inch! I wanted full colour markings so got hold of a Model Alliance sheet for RAF Germany with those for a 17 Squadron machine, RAF Bruggen in 1972. The decal sheet instructions show this machine fitted with the strike camera so that's what I did, but LOST the front glazing part!!

Managed to pick up an Eduard Profipack Mirage III at a reasonable price - it's a beauty, I know because I built one a few years back. Anyway, that one was over all NMF but this time I want to finish it with the "blue-grey" upper surface scheme. can anyone advise the best colour here? Humbrol or Extracolour?
