  1. Brush & cocktail stick method. If you're clever & the tyre to hub demarkation is as it should be, I find you can hold the brush completely still & rotate the cocktail stick between your fingers & achieve a perfect job. Airbrush? No thanks; too much bother for me to go out to the garage, mix the paint, 30 secs of spray then clean up again!

  2. Air brushing is a skill, not too difficult a skill but a skill nevertheless. I remember my first efforts with a cheap airbrush & they weren't pretty. I suspect that with practice & perhaps a better quality airbrush things will improve. Sounds to me like you're laying down to much paint - a common fault with cheaper a/brushes that allow little control. I find that putting the model somewhere warm such as an airing cupboard or near a radiator (not on it!), or even (in summer) in the sun speeds up drying time. Blue Tac can leave an outline but it's never been to bad a problem for me. I use mainly enamels (usually Xtracolour). Keep at it & don't despair!

  3. Ian, look at the LERX in your pic & compare with mine & see where the Lerx itself joins the wing leading edge. On mine, the LERX "web" extends right to the edge of the resin component on yours there is a section of the straight wing leading edge between the "web" & the joint. As for the sanding well for me it's just good old fashioned wet'n'dry, elbow grease......and a lot of mess!

  4. 72nd is not my scale but the Airfix FAW9 makes up into a very nice little kit with Firestreaks & belly tanks & some good detail inside the u/c bays & doors. However the afterburners are way too small. I have heard of people using the a/b cans from the Heller kit with success.

  5. Plot revolved around a US Airman gettng an English women in the family way (this is 2008, not 1945 you know!). Anyway, some scenes were shot at RAF Marham (or "RAF Fakenheath" as we were asked to believe by the cunningly amended gatehouse sign), & in one particular shot, the main character was talking to the US commander as he got into his USAF Tornado GR4! Clearly in shot bellow the a/c belly were Brimstones on multiple racks. Is this munition operational yet?

  6. BRILLIANT - Thanks for that. I really appreciate it!!! Great pics and info. Also thanks for the word on the decals.

    dave -

"Kits at war do a decal for EE337 in her later Ford guise" - Does for guise refer to FD on fin or Grey over cream scheme - forgive my lack of knowledge.

One last thing that is bugging me. In all the photos the sea meteor does not have a belly tank, however in the tamiya kit and in the decal set afore mentioned, this appears to be shown. Maybe some historical inaccuracies, but I thought the mk 3 was not fitted with this tank.

One more thing to be aware of, theses "Sea Meteors" had their main u/c doors removed to prevent fouling the arrestor wires. Have to confess that I'm not sure about the belly tank & it's use (or lack thereoff) on the F3. I cannot find any pics of F3's with it, only profiles such as that in the Warpaint book.....but then they put that eroneous fin flash on as well!

  7. I had to virtually cut my bang seats in half to get them to fit in my T8.....the insides are too narrow right?

certainly too wide & probably too long - the shin guards are ENORMOUS, the seats are really a poor representation. This wouldn't matter if going for a closed cockpit but so bad is the canopy fit that I may have to cut & display it open.

  8. Thanks for your information, some blanks filled in there...

I cannot find a photo, diagram or other reference which might explain or show the A frame arrester hook in any detail. You would think there would be something on the web, but alas I have had no joy, so any additional info will be greatfully received.

I don't suppose anyone will be aware of a company who would custom make decals for such a plane?

    Thanks for your responses.

AHH HA - Someone has beaten me to it -

Anyone read Japanese? I wonder if that arrester hook is scratchbuilt.

That looks nice. Note that there is no fin flash & this seems to be correct (see my earlier post). The colour profile I mentioned in the Warpaint book shows a fin flash but a photo of the same machine in the same book shows NO fin flash & this would be more in keeping with RN practice. One other matter, the Modellers data file on the Meteor states that the "Sea Meteor F3" possessed localised rear fuselage strengthening. Presumably this comprised plates "a la" Hawker Typhoon, intended to prevent the rear fuseage being ripped off by the arrestor hook but whatever it was, it isn't apparent in photos. (Sorry no, you can't have my Dynavector Sea Vixen!)

  9. WK198 wore an overall light blue scheme. Some photos indicate it had a dark nose for the record attempt, but when this photo was taken hasn't been confirmed:

That nose looks unusual! I have a pic that proports to show WK198 being refuelled for it's record breaking run, no dark nose.
