  1. Nice work. I keep seeing this kit in the local hobby shop, and thinking I might get it to finish as a captured one put to work by RAF 2 Armoured Car Company.
  2. Thanks Keith - that’s the plan! Thanks John, very much appreciated. Gloss coat applied with my usual brushed on floor polish, then once dry on with the last of the decals. Bit worried about the big star at the front - but it settled down well over the hatch detail during the day. Bit of detail painting started. Really liking the look of this - pugnacious little tank.
  3. Public holiday today - so plenty of time to work on my Panzer. Construction didn’t take long to finish. I used superglue to attach the top of the hull - there was a bit of tendency not to sit properly, and no easy way to clamp, which ruled out a slower setting cement. All the other bits were quickly attached - quite a few little bits at the rear. A coat of Vallejo primer. A couple of coats of Vallejo Desert Yellow. And then some sponging and dry brushing with Vallejo Anthracite Grey to match what I did on the turret. I’ve also installed the side storage locker, and the aerial in the down position. With the left over track links, some plastic strip and few plastic bolts that Academy helpfully provide on the sprue, I fashioned a set of spare links to mount somewhere at the rear of the tank. Perhaps a few touch ups needed, but I am happy with the general appearance.
  4. So, track day today. First up, a dry brush with some Tamiya Acrylic Medium Grey. Then, the tracks. Not as tricky as some I’ve dealt with, but of course there was a bit of fiddling to get them all lined up correctly. For whatever reason i needed one less link on each side for them to fit. Once a few touch ups were done with Vallejo Track Primer, they look OK. I like the way Academy has factored in the bit of “slack” in the top stretch of track.
  5. That’s a very odd looking beastie Milan - great work.
  6. Fantastic work Ed. The detail and finishing is exquisite.
  7. That was the plan John - the photos I can see of the real tank show the paint to be well worn. It’s perhaps a little stark, but from past experience the dust coats will tone it down.
  8. Thanks Ed, bit of learning curve with it, but I think with practice I’ll get the hang of it Thanks John. Desert vehicles allow me to be a bit heavy handed with the weathering. Thanks Keith, happy with how they have come out. Thanks Andy! Thanks! Really happy with how the effect came out. Today I did much the same on the turret, and then gave all the parts weathered so far a coat of matt varnish. Tommorrow I fit the tracks.
  9. Thanks John and Milan - there are some other colours of this brand of wash still on special, so may invest in a few more. Managed a little bit after work tonight. First the “German” decals on the turret - my intent is to have them on, do some weathering and then add the American markings. The decals are VERY thin and quickly conformed to the raised detail. I’ll seal them before doing anything else on the turret. For the suspension and running gear I added some sponged on Vallejo Model Air Anthracite Grey, not so much chipping, rather a hint of the top coat being abraded away. Perhaps a trifle heavier than intended, but again the following Matt and dust coats will tone it down. Just a dry fit of the wheels - looking good I think. So keen to get the tracks on, but that will need to wait until later in the week. I’ll be introducing newbie lawyers to forensic science tomorrow night.
  10. Thanks for all the positive feedback. After a week of fairly extreme weather, this weekend has been rather cooler and so I was able to make some progress. Pretty much finished adding the bits I can to the top of the fenders and hull. I’ve also added the holders for the spare wheel from plastic strip, as this captured panzer had its spare wheel attached at the back. More deviation from the instructions- I added some gubbins (some kind of holder?) to the top of the storage box at the back. I painted up the tyres on the wheels, not my best work as the demarcation is a bit indistinct. Trying a new product - it was on special at the local hobby shop. Thought I had a made a mistake at first - it’s very dark and needed a fair bit of dilution to get the effect I wanted. That being said after a few nervous moments, I don’t think it looks too bad. Here it is on the wheels and suspension on top of a gloss coat of floor polish. On the sprockets and idlers. Bit stark at the moment, but the effect will be diminished by the addition of dust. Need to clean a few bits up before it “sets”, which is easier enough with a slightly dampened paintbrush.
  11. Coming along nicely John. I found using the Google App on my phone helpful for translating the Japanese text in the instructions. I missed the anomalous PE instructions as I was always going to have the front hatches closed.
  12. I built the Valom kit a few years back. Not a particularly enjoyable experience, but the end result looks ok from a distance.
  13. Hi John, no PE in my kit. The instructions mention using brass wire for detailing the hatches, but that’s it.
  14. Just catching up with this. Excellent work John - you can really feel the movement, and the crew have so much character!
  15. Too warm to paint this weekend so I focussed on construction. The captured tank I am building appears to have have some variation to what is presented in the box - which allowed my first serious go at some scratch building. I added another storage box on the right hand side, and a jerrycan holder on the rear left hand side. Latches for the storage box came from the PE fret that came with my recently built Chaffee. It’s a bit beaten up and crude, but to be fair it looks that way in the photos as well. Also in shot is the main hull which I have painted black inside to account for the open grills on the engine deck.
  16. Oh oh - bit late for this kit. I use an entirely water-based workflow for weathering so hopefully should be ok.
  17. I’ve been gradually painting the wheels and suspension each evening - find it very soothing after a long day at work. Also trying something new - Vallejo Grey Primer on the turret. Went on nice and easy - certainly easier to handle than Tamiya paints in the current hot weather. A few blemishes to sort out, but pretty happy with the result. This is the result of two thin brushed on coats.
  18. Terrific work John. Tarpaulins are excellent.
  19. Thanks John, Keith and Ed. Certainly is in my local hobby shop, they have a whole range of stuff from Greenstuff World. This is the actual product I’m using:
  20. Thanks Roger. Another scorcher of a day, so not much chance to do painting other than a primer coat of Tamiya Acrylic Medium Grey on the suspension and underside of the hull. As expected Greenstuff made short work of the injector marks. Much of the time at the desk was gluing little bits to the top of the hull, I also got the turret sorted (the main armament is a dry fit at present). It’s not a complicated build, but you do need to pay attention as they are lots of little differences between the options you are given. I have also realised I may need to do some scratch building as there are some little differences from the photos of the actual tank I am building a representation of and the kit as provided. That will make life interesting.
