  1. A minor update just for the Sunday morning's sake. The Messerschmitts have their cockpits and fuselages completed. The nacelles are done, but I'll add the exhaust parts only after painting the pale blue around them. The gun barbecues, or whatever they're called, will also wait until the fuselage is all painted. Nice kit(s)! I drilled open the 50mm gun muzzle, otherwise it's all OOB. Anybody what what the other cockpit upper glazing/roof part is? It looks like the only difference would be the small bulge above the windshield, in the part not to be used in this boxing. Divebombing sight, perhaps? V-P
  2. I think you know that I know what you think about it. And you're right
  3. "Someone" just today heard from his hobby shop, that his B-25C (Airfix new boxing) is finally on its way. For a reason or another it took longer time to reach the stockists than expected. Whatever, we still have nearly three months left in this GB 😀 V-P
  4. Probably the outlined "D" only, because the Geschwader and Staffel codes were irrelevant when you were the only Bf 110 equipped Nachtjagdstaffel in the whole Mediterranean and North Africa theater
  5. I really like, and envy, the marble effect you can do. A very nice 110 on its way!
  6. Very good paintjob, I'd have been satisfied with the mottling v.1.0.
  7. Sad that there is so big difference in the quality of Eduard Bf 110:s in 1:48 and 1:72. I hope their customer service sorts things out.
  8. In 1:144, that's still bigger than a Spitfire in 1:72, isn't it? Good job!
  9. Nice work, luckily it'll be preserved in the build pics!
  10. Beaufighters were made to be painted in the desert scheme, very nice!
  11. And she looks very nice indeed!
  12. That taping is probably a very wise thing to do when assembling two large fuselage halves. This will be another stunner!
  13. I never thought I'd look for a Britmodeller how-to thread for puttying P-51 wings. But I did. Then I marked it accordingly on a set of Airfix 1:72 wings - molded in the old plastic - and thought that might be doable even by me . Actually not very long strips of panel lines to fill in these kits. V-P
  14. A change of mind - mind you, if I bring this little cutie with me? A perfect excuse to delay and not build this in the US Navy GB this year . V-P
  15. As I wrote in the GB Chat 2.12.2023: "On the left, the Airfix 1:72 kit molded in the old type of plastic, and the other landing gear leg is notoriously crooked again. Well, I knew enough to expect that. On the right, the same kit from the most recent boxing, molded in the new type of plastic. That gear leg looks a lot better than before, but compared to its mate in front of it, it's not straight as it should be. So the problem remains, but it's not as bad as before. That's what I'm disappointed with . Yet, it's a very nice kit otherwise, and us modelers are always ready to fix these little things."
  16. I don't usually do that... but let's see what happens this time 🙂 V-P
  17. Wasn't a formation of three called a vic? Let's look at what's in the foreground here: Three of Airfix's very good 1:72 scale P-51D kits! Two in the most recent boxing from 2023, the first of which I bought on a trip to Dublin, thus the 50 mission crush in the box, and the third in a classic Dogfight Double boxing with an Me 262. Abosulutely fantastic review of the former kit by Mike can be read here and the latter by Julien here. Thanks! The DD kit is molded in the older, lighter grey and somewhat softer plastic than the current production kit. The difference in colour is clear. The pic is here just to show you they are still unstarted kits, because the Britmodeller reviews have already told you ll you need to know about the sprues etc! There's the extra drop tank sprue on the right, leftover from a previous Airfix Mustang build. Having that and three pairs of tanks in the kits allows me to build two pairs of properly handed tanks! Build plans, eh? The E2*D "DETROIT Miss" will hopefully join E2*S by Tamiya in my model display. The decals and the scheme are just too nice to pass! EDIT: This one will later receive its own thread too: P-51D-5-NA 44-13532 SFX ex-358 FS 355 FG, 3/3 of the vic YF/*P, no name yet, later "Betty Joyce" The third one will be one of Experimental (scouting) Force or the later 1st Scouting Force known mounts of Capt. Dale McCrory, a former B-17 lead pilot from the 532nd BS, 381st BG. He was exactly the kind of a pilot Col. Peaslee wanted for to become his Scouts! Serving on his second tour, in the SFX he had a yet nameless Ex-355th FG 44-13532 YF*P. Nice coincidence, perhaps, that the serial number ended in his former bomb squadron number! No pics to link here, but this site is a treasure trove for all things "Little Friends" of the 8th AF. Just search for "McCrory" there. V-P
  18. It wasn't yet an USAF plane but it wasn't an USAAC plane either. (US) Army Air Corps were renamed Army Air Forces 20.6.1941, and independent Air Force began 18.9.1947.
  19. Said by our modest group builder, or was it group build moderator, that has 17 builds going on, himself
  20. So, it looks like we ARE indeed there already A week to finish two Me 410:s...
  21. This is the best forum, and the group build community is just fabulous There's still nearly three months left in this group build, so more than enough time to Finnish another twin V-P
