  1. Bye, adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen etc. This kit is in the bin! Life is too short for an untalented modeller like me to waste it on a kit as crap as this. The Airfix GB story goes on, however, as I am returning to my original plan and start this Bilek bagged edition of the Airfix FW 189 A. Oh I feel better already . V-P
  2. Bump! This is another one I would really like to get to The Vote and then through it to become a Group Build. This has ample opportunities and variety for those wishing to specialize and build a nightfighter, or a shipkiller, or a tankbuster or a rec... onnaissaeur (?) whatever AND for those who want to build one of each, one per month AND for those who wish to build all of those as a variant of the same airplane yes, even that is possible . So join us before it's too late!
  3. In your case I'd say that's unavoidable (is that a word?) 😁 Edit: oh I do have an Airfix Martlet kit. If I have oomph left after the Fortress build, I might enter this one. No promises though!
  4. Bump! Or not just a bump! Some of you not (yet) interested in this GB should reconsider what we´d all be missing: on the dark side #1 there´s very little Soviet home-made stuff not eligible in this GB, first pop to my mind the very late war JS- tanks and Yak-3:s, otherwise Anything Goes, the lend-lease aircraft ranging from Hurricanes, Tomahawks, Kittyhawks and Airacobras to Bostons and Mitchells on the dark side #2 the number of Jerry armour is limited to StuG:s (III and IV) but the aircraft side more than makes up for it on the bright side, from where I´m standing, you can build almost anything from the both dark sides, but with different markings and camo Don´t get tangled up with the stereotypic Winter War whitewashed point of view; this GB would really have potential for variety in colour also! V-P
  5. Thanks! It looks like decalbashing is the way to go. And, no I´m not of the rivet counting type . V-P
  6. Academy Fortresses appear to be very popular here, welcome! V-P
  7. We'll give all those Bassingbourne boys a beating! V-P
  8. I found a solution to help me wait for the start; I will use my old Italeri Ju 188 fuselage as a paint mule to test various olive drab, medium gray, red tailplane and rudder surface paint cans - just to be sure they work when the B-17 build begins! V-P
  9. I have never seen anywhere mentioned that a G-2 would've had a different gear leg than a G-6. Thus I suppose the axle and wheel hub were similar. V-P EDIT: Now I have and I admit being wrong about it. You live and learn, thanks Kari!
  10. My middleaged eyes suggest me that the canopy has a vertical head armour/pressurization bulkhead - that'd make it a G-5 then? V-P
  11. Exactly my thoughts... until @DaveyGair mentioned in his RAAF Mustang IV build that the CVoP code was *almost* my personalised squadron code. I did a quick search and voilá... End of problem . I edited the participant list in the opening post, there are now 36 of us, which is an excellent number for a STGB of a plane this big. See you soon... V-P EDIT: I made a quick count of what we´ve planned to build: (At least) one Monogram kit in 1:48; in 1:72 7 Academys and 7 Revells, 6 Airfix, 2 Matchbox and 1 Frog (!)
  12. A few weeks and the B-17 Single Type Group Build will begin here at our favorite modelling forum . Small surprise I shall try to build a plane that has my initials on it; B-17G-35-BO 42-32025 "DREAMBABY". Not just any B-17, as can be seen in the pic (courtesy of IWM) below! And a survivor of the war, which is always a nice thing to know. I may consider myself lucky, as there is one Kits-World decal set 172109 that gives me Squadron codes VP* for the fuselage, and correctly colored Group and Division markings for the tail and starboard wing. It looks like I need to source two sheets for the second fuselage P from set 172012 and the Bu.No 232025 from 172005, so far so good, but where can I get the smaller P for the tail? I know I must try my artistic abilities on the plane name and the pin-up 😰. Best regards, V-P
  13. Oh yes they are, Ratch, they are for all of us. Some of us have been here doing this for longer than some others; some know the rules better than others. When we get excited about finishing our builds and forget the five pic rule, there are ways to remind the happy modeller about it; using a "confused"- emoji may not be the most educational and clear way to do it but as we saw , in the end it does the trick too. I agree with you completely on your remarks re following the rules. A PM or a written comment on the build thread might still be a better way to communicate. I hope I don´t get slapped for taking part in other peoples´ argument 🙂 . V-P
  14. I think Airfix should reward you somehow because of this build thread... So far I, and probably many others not familiar with this "old" kit, have only seen reasons to go and buy one! V-P
  15. I can´t see how that pic could upset anyone, have you received nasty PM regarding it? That would in my opinion be unexpected and most of all very uncommon here at Britmodeller. It´s a fine pic that gives some perspective in your build as part of a bigger project. Just keep it and keep happy ! Best regards, V-P P.S: I did the very same with my two Hurricanes
  16. There's a link to the Trainer Types GB in my post #7 above. V-P
  17. De-riveting... But isn't that wing rather smooth now? Time to tackle the starboard one next. V-P
  18. Hawker Hurricane Mk.I "HC-451" Finnish Air Force, 1941 Airfix ragwing kit in 1:72 scale, OOB SBS Decals Humbrol enamels, brushed on of course Build time from monday to saturday, not even every day The Finnish "Warpaint" with yellow theater colours contrasts nicely with the as-delivered RAF camo. I built the other one earlier this year in the Hawker GB. Sorry for the dark pics. There's such a weather outside I don't dare to take these out for the pics! Thanks again to Giorgio N and Enzo Matrix for setting this up and running the circus! Now where did I leave that Airfix Ju 88...? V-P
  19. Still within the timeframe of the GB, I added the formation and nav lights I had forgotten! V-P
  20. Make a good educational build thread Patrice, as I have the exact same kit but will do mine in the colours of the evil; a lend-lease Russian Kobrushka. V-P
  21. You know what the Swedes did with these planes back then? Flew through Finnish Lapland at maximum altitude (we politely looked away and saw nothing) all the way to Soviet naval bases around Murmansk, and let those cameras do their job. That information was priceless to several western intelligence services. So, you're actually building a U-2 etc. predecessor!
