  1. Nice choice and a lovely kit to build, if fiddly in places. Wish I could find a bargain like that in Llandudno!
  2. Morning all, Finally got the exhausts painted. Basecoated in dark grey then various brown and rust coloured washes applied. Hopefully it'll look better once flat coated. Tonight I need to finish off the upper side panel line washes and paint an exhaust stain. Thanks for looking Matt
  3. Prop and tyres painted and weathered. Now I just need to sort the exhausts and I'm nearly there... Matt
  4. Ah, it's this sheet. I'm probably not going to build enough Spits to justify it! Some lovely options there though.
  5. I'd also be interested in knowing which decals you're using as the Airfix Mk Vb is one of the kits I'm considering building. @Troy Smith useful info thanks Matt
  6. Thanks again for the comments. Tonight I've sprayed and weathered the wheels and gear legs - I added brake lines from wire. I still need to mask up the hubs so I can paint the tyres tomorrow. These resin replacements from SBS are really nice. The spinner. Without wanting to be contraversial, or annoy @vppelt68, I've opted for white. I nearly went with aluminium, even got as far as getting some of AK's Xtreme Metal ready, but changed my mind. Its just tacked on with masking fluid here. I've also done some further shading by lightening the olive green with sky. Very subtle but worth it. Not really visible though so you'll have to take my word for it! Not sure why there's a pink tinge to all these photos. Thanks for looking Matt
  7. Thanks both. It's between the Vb's. Not sure I have the patience for another Eduard Profipack yet - I still have a Bf-109 that I'm struggling to finish!
  8. Hi all, Had never taken part in a GB before the current Nordic one. Have really enjoyed the experience so with my build there now on the finishing straight, I was pleased to find another that I could potentially take part in. I have a choice of kits... I'm erring towards the Airfix Mk Vb at the moment, but there's still time to change my mind! Matt
  9. Thanks for the comments guys! Finally beaten these decals into submission...had to resort to using Daco Strong. Next up are some of the smaller markings and then bits like the prop, wheels and undercarriage. Matt
  10. Right, decal time... These have fought me every step of the way. The correctly sized circular decal on the fuselage side disintegrated immediately after being applied so I had to substitute it with a slightly larger one from the sheet. Getting the decals to conform to the recessed details has involved numerous applications of Mr Mark Softer, which usually beats any decals into submission, along with cutting them along the panel lines. All in all, quite disappointing. You may be able to see in the first picture that I've applied an initial wash to the panel lines. I'll need to revisit this a few times until I'm happy with the effect. Unfortunately time has evaded me tonight so I've not been able to start the starboard wing/fuselage side. Matt
  11. It's the new (or was new then) tooling. I got as far as building the cockpit and assembling the fuselage before losing interest. I did start a thread back in 2016! I will get back to it sometime, meanwhile I'll watch your progress! Matt
  12. That looks excellent. Great paint job!
  13. There's nothing quite like an F104 is there. Yours is looking great so far!
  14. Nice project and kit! I fancy one of these myself however the stash needs to be reduced, not increased!
  15. That's come together quickly! I've just sold one of these about 2 weeks ago, shame because it's a nice little kit. I've got a part built 1:48 Airfix Hurri that's been on the shelf of doom for about 4 years - hopefully your build will inspire me to pick it back up!
  16. Thanks for the input. I take the point about Soviet spinners, however I still think it looks white. Could it have been painted white for a period prior to the spiral being painted? Basically, I'm looking for any excuse not to have an aluminium spinner - I really don't like them! Thanks Cliff, hopefully the effort will be worth it. Started applying the SBS decals last night. Quite thick and need considerable work to get them to conform to recessed detail etc which is a shame. Matt
  17. Hello all, Looking at the few photos of this aircraft online (also posted by @vppelt68), I'm trying to work out what colour the spinner is. The two common colour profiles have the spinner as either black, with a spiral, or aluminium. Looking at the photos here, I'm not so sure. Looking at the photos, I'm starting to lean towards it being either white, and there is a build elsewhere with a white spinner, or yellow, as the colour looks similar to the chin of the aircraft. I think it's white though. Admittedly it's difficult to tell from a B&W photo. Anyone have any suggestions or opinions? Matt
  18. Thanks for the positive comments, much appreciated. The random preshading has now been oversprayed with the top colour. I've made an effort to spray it thin enough that the underlying colours have an impact but heavy enough that the colour is solid. I want to try and avoid it looking patchy and cartoon like. Quite a difficult colour to photograph but you can just about make out the mottled effect I'm after. I haven't sprayed the flaps, leading edges or wingtips yet simply so I could handle it safely while airbrushing. Matt
  19. Some random preshading applied as an attempt to force some contrast into what can be quite a monotonous colour. May or may not be worth it, we'll see... Matt
  20. Underside blue has now been shaded and highlighted using a lightened mix - completely randomly. I've also made a start on the topside, but only around the masked areas as I was concerned about the paint lifting. Needn't have worried, but sods law would've dictated differently had I left the masking in place. Borders all sprayed freehand. That's it for tonight, thanks for looking. Matt
  21. Basecoat of blue completed. Tomorrow I'll do some highlights and a bit of shading here and there. Thanks Matt
  22. Gloss coat applied, and I've decided to try a bit of preshading on the lower wings around the shell ejection chutes to break up the finish a bit. Going to give the gloss overnight to dry properly before starting the masking tomorrow. Matt
  23. Thank you Rich! Tomorrow I can seal the yellow with a gloss coat to protect it from the masking. I pulled stuff from ebay myself, just can't get to the post office at the moment. Thanks for your continued interest. Matt
  24. Painting has finally commenced - painting the yellow sections first so I don't make the same mistake I did with my Bf-109. Base colour is H413 RLM04 from Gunze with Tamiya XF-3 for some highlights. This last photo highlights that I've made a reasonable job of blending the fuselage sections. Yellow is a very unforgiving colour! Matt
  25. Lovely work on a really nice kit. Looking forward to more!
