Painting has started and ended - like I said, just two main colours. Getting a green aircraft to look interesting is difficult, without resorting to patchwork preshading which I'm not a fan of. Also have to remember how little use these aircraft would actually have had...but I may do a little bit of post shading once the decals are applied, just for interest! Thanks for looking Matt

Busy man! Which other mags does he edit?

One word: outstanding! -
I've just 'obtained' the ADV version of the kit so I'll be following along for construction tips!

Been a while since I've picked this up but the recent reorganisation of my model room coupled with the relative success in refurbishing my F-5F led to me picking it back up. The reason the build stalled was mainly due to the poor fit of the engine parts, and then the poor engine to wing fit. The amount of filling and sanding, coupled with the shallow recessed detail left me feeling pretty frustrated to be honest. Anyway, I decided to put these feelings of frustration to one side, accept the flaws and just get it finished. The aerial mast has been drilled out and a length of wire inserted for additional strength. Painting has commenced. Nothing fancy as it's a simple scheme and I'll be using 3 regular Tamiya paints for this: XF-11 JN Green, XF-12 JN Grey and XF-13 JA Green. Thanks for looking Matt

And she's finished for a second time. I think she's scrubbed up well. Thanks for the interest. Matt

This revisiting of an old kit is nearly concluded. Was never happy with the wheels first time around. Now repainted. And she's up on her legs properly again. Only some minor tweaks to go now. Matt

Firstly sorry for reviving a very, very old (8 years) thread. The reason I'm doing so is I've dusted down this old lady and she's getting some TLC - mainly some repainting and weathering. Does anyone else revive old models or just build new? Anyway, some quick pics: Matt

I've been fortunate enough to have a spare room to do my modelling in, however my wife continues to work from home and has earmarked said space as a home office. This means that room is currently undergoing "improvements". Part of the compromise is for me to buy a better bench than the old desk I'm currently using, but a lot of "stuff" (i.e unbuilt kits etc) have to be moved on. I've already got rid of a section of my stash this/last year and this is set to continue. Anyway, back to the point of this post. While sorting things out to begin redevelopment/stash thinning, I came across the Hurricane. It really is 65% complete, so I need to get it back on the bench...once I have a bench of course! Hopefully progress soon! Matt

I can now answer my own question. I placed an order online on Monday and received it today - excellent service and a happy customer! Thanks for the replies!

Hi there, Came across this, new to me, shop when doing a Google search for some bits and pieces. Has anyone used them? Thanks in advance Matt

Nice work! Not an aircraft or manufacturer I'm familiar with but you're doing a super job with it!

I've enjoyed reading this thread, top work with an old kit and looking forward to seeing it finished now! Oh for a new tool 1/48 Bucc!

Things have really slowed down recently, which is a shame because the finishing line is in sight, but I've been distracted by other projects. I've found a little time to repaint the spinner and prepare the undercarriage (very flimsy by the way) and wheels. I used the rather nice Vallejo Metal Colours for the gear legs. Thanks for looking. Amazing! Have you used the kit decals? -
Hello all, Not a lot of progress to share, but I have completed the decals. Other than the effort involved in multipart roundels, the decals themselves were excellent. Matt

Thank you both for the information, much appreciated. Matt

Hi all, The profile of the aircraft I'm modelling in the Aviation Workshop booklet shows the spinner painted black, however I've seen other examples of 880 NAS Hurricanes with the spinner painted grey to match the fuselage sides. Any suggestions which is more likely? Also, I'm guessing that being a Naval aircraft, any minor damage (scratches etc) the props suffered would have been quickly repainted too. Would people agree? Matt

Still crawling along but paintwork finally completed. Decals next... Matt

Thanks Col! Both wings now painted and all of a sudden it seems to have progressed rapidly! I need to figure out how to mask around the tail, so this seemed a good place to stop for tonight. Annoyingly, despite my best efforts, there's been a bit of paint lift on the starboard fuselage side, immediately above the wing so that'll also need fixing. Thanks for looking! Matt

Outstanding!

Hi all, The Hurricane is back on the bench after a bit of a break. There not actually too much to do, it's just a case of getting on with it. Anyway, I've made a start on the upper wings tonight. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I always approach painting in blocks to try and minimise boredom and preserve concentration. If I try to do too much at once, i.e paint both wings, I just mess it up usually! This way enables me to handle it easier too. Hopefully you can see some of the subtle shading around the wingroot. As I like to spray camo freehand, I try to only use the minimum of masking tape. I've also had a few issues with the Sky Grey lifting, so erred on the side of caution. There's a tiny bit of overspray to be tidied up but nothing much. EDSG tomorrow hopefully! Thanks for looking Matt

You're probably right but I also agree that it makes it look pretty cool!
