  1. Morning all, I showed this wagon in a semi-painted state in my first post in this thread. Now finished a few months later.
  2. Couple of additions to the fleet: Tope ballast wagon: produced from a cut down Parkside hopper wagon kit. Bachmann VAA wagon #1: Bachmann VAA wagon #2:
  3. Another couple, recently finished. Cambrian Shark brake van: I built this back when I was in school. It languished in a box in a broken state for many, many years. Now stripped down, repaired and fully repainted. Ratio ex-LMS 12t van:
  4. Thank you @mackem01! Wheel wells were painted with Mr Hobby H332 Light Aircraft Grey. @Pappy, no issues with any of the clear parts. The rest of the kit was covered in flash, but the clear parts were fine! Matt
  5. Ejection Triangles: As mentioned, I needed some suitable ejector triangles. Having hunted through my stash and come up empty handed, I had a look online. I found a sheet by Fantasy Printshop and duly placed an order. In the meantime, of course, I found some suitable decals. My first thought upon receiving the FP decals was that while they looked really nice, they were 1/48 scale - they do look rather large. The sheet definitely says 1/72 though. Matt
  6. Thank you @Terry1954! I'll go through my own spare decals first but I'll bear your kind offer in mind. Matt
  7. Starting to look like a Valley Hawk now! What I don't now have are suitable ejection triangles - will have to have a scan at some old sheets. Matt
  8. Hi all, This was meant to be a quick build - the deadline being end of October. I finally dragged it back onto the bench this afternoon. Apart from the decals, the main job left to do is get all of the undercarriage parts assembled and painted. This isn't as easy as it could be due to poor fit, an abundance of flash and the aforementioned sprue attachment points - thanks Revell! Try to contain your excitement at this photo... The gear bays also need painting, which involved another mammoth masking job. Hopefully I can start on the decals soon... Matt
  9. Hello again, I've recently started building a layout - nothing fancy at all, just a basic shunting layout to try out some skills. Early photo showing the scenic part in its entirety: Recently, I've started focusing more on the buildings because if I'm honest, other than building and painting wagons, that's where my main interest lies. Here are a few images of completed, almost completed or under construction structures: Thanks for looking Matt
  10. Just caught up with this build - its looking excellent Tony!
  11. Thank you @Terry1954, much appreciated!
  12. Thank you for the comments, it's much appreciated! Another few boring photos... There is a difference though, although barely visible - I've now painted the grey sections of the wings properly. Matt
  13. Hi @Robert, thanks for the comment. For this build I've used Mr Color Levelling Thinner. The paint isn't thinned any more than normal (although I guess it depends what "normal" is to you)! Matt
  14. Hi all, After an age, a bit of an update! Never mind the fuel shortage, its the masking tape shortage in this house I'm worried about... Worth the effort though because the result looks decent in my opinion. It's Tamiya X-7 Red in case anyone is interested! Thanks Matt
  15. Thank you for the comments and interest, and also for sharing photos! @2996 Victor, your wagons look great! I've done a bit more, starting with a Peco 7mm NG coach. These are pretty common, so I've done a little bit of extra work - footboards, end strapping, new handrails - for a bit of individuality. To be painted in due course. I've also built a freelance open wagon using a Smallbrook Studios underframe kit. Nothing clever, just a bit of fun Matt
  16. Excuse my ignorance, but is the digital edition available to download? I've never even considered a digital edition of a magazine before so don't want to pay for a download if it doesn't exist.
  17. Nice work @Army_Air_Force. Sorry, I missed your comment until now. Bit of freelance loco progress:
  18. I'm really pleased to see this going to a good home and getting built at last! Looking forward to more progress Tony!
  19. You and me both! Next bit is the difficult part - masking the red!
  20. Lots of masking... ...and I have this (still managed to get overspray where I didn't want it)... I actually added some X-14 Sky Blue to the X-3 as it was too dark. I now need to let it fully dry for a few days before doing any more masking. Matt
  21. Thank you @Fritag, much appreciated! Painting has now commenced. I'm using Mr Hobby H1 for the white, and Tamiya X-7 for the red. The blue will probably be Tamiya X-3. Shortly after starting painting the red, it was clear I was going to have to stop. I used a different airbrush to normal, and experienced loads of overspray. So this explains the random nature of the painting in the next picture! The patch of white on the intake is to act as a primer so the red isn't darker here due to the filler being applied at the wingroot. Matt
  22. I've finally managed to fit the intake nozzles - it took quite a bit of effort to get an anywhere near acceptable fit. Obviously I lost some surface detail as a result so I'll rescribe what I can. Note the unpainted rear of the IP's will not be visible once the coaming is fitted! Next I need to sort the underside - I predict more filling and sanding... Matt
