Ah, it never rains but it pours! See post #9 [still plenty of time to ruin it], well it's not ruined but I'm having "fun" with the decals shall we say! If I'm not damaging them beyond repair then I'm melting them with decal softener! How I laughed!
-
Thank you for your very kind offer - PM on it's way to you!
-
Thanks for the comments! All the camo was sprayed freehand. I knew it was going to well, I've had a 'decal disaster' tonight, the aircraft serial number got 'damaged' and removing it has damaged a the paintwork which'll now need respraying, grrrr!

Thanks for the kind comments! Managed to find some time today to spray the green - this is by far the biggest model in terms of size that I've built and it drove me crazy while rotating it on the painting stand - every time I moved it it caught/bumped/knocked something! Of course I am blaming the size of the model, although SWMBO would probably argue that if there weren't so many things on my workbench for it to knock into... Anyway, some pics... Thanks for looking Happy Christmas/Nadolig Llawen Matt

Some progress to report. I decided to take the plunge and start spraying the camoflage - Xtracrylix RAF Ocean Grey, I really like this paint but find it's difficult to clean out of the airbrush. The preshade is a bit more visible in reality than in the photos, I'm pretty pleased with it so far [still plenty of time to ruin it!]. Thanks for looking Matt

Thanks for the info. I can't find out anything either way so guess I'll have to trust Tamiya!

Thanks for the comments - the top piece of the canopy hasn't been forgotten about, it's just been masked and painted seperately! I've spent most of the afternoon priming and then pre-shading the model. I hate pre-shading, it's so boring and fiddly, but I like the effect it gives so I guess I'll have to persevere! I'm planning on doing the 96 Sqn version, mainly because I have RAF grey/green left over from my Mustang build. Tamiya have you paint the underside in RAF Ocean Grey - can anyone advise if this is correct? Anyway, some pics: Thanks for looking Matt

Hello, My parents bought this kit for me about 10 years ago. At the time I had an airbrush that could only spray a line about 1" wide so my choice of kits were dictated by anything that was a single colour [in this case black]. After constucting the majority of the kit, I abandoned it as it was beyond my abilities. It lay undiscovered in a cupboard until I came across it during a visit to my parents house a few months ago. After finishing my Mustang, I thought I'd dust it off and have a go at completing it [no promises though!]. I'd already constructed the majority of the kit but hadn't bothered sanding/filling/polishing any of the joins so that was the first task. I also applied a wash to the cockpit to liven it up a bit from the bland green I'd painted it. I've also repainted the engines in metallic grey [i'd sprayed them black] and gave them a wash. The model is now almost ready for some primer so enough of my waffling as these pics show the progress better... Thanks for looking Matt

Lovely! Forgive my ignorance, but whose kit is this? -
Thank you very much!

Very good work! I will be following with interest having completed something similar recently -
Thanks again for the positive comments, I really appreciate them. Here' a photo just to prove that I've added the aerial mast and undercarriage door to the model...
-
Thank you for the comments. I've just realised that I've omitted to attach the aerial mast as well as the undercarriage doors....make that a 99.8% completed model...
-
They're actually from a Luftwaffe set - entirely wrong [obviously] but I can live with it!
-
Here is my 99.9% completed Tamiya RAF Mustang. The incomplete 0.01% is the undercarriage doors that I damaged the paintwork on last night - I'll respray them next time I have the airbrush out! The model has been build out of the box with the exception of some Eduard seatbelts and painted with a mix of Tamiya and Xtracrylic paints. This is the fourth model I've build 'properly' over the last 2 years and I've learnt a lot as I've gone on. For anyone that is interested, here is a link to the WIP topic. Thank for your interest

Awesome work - the wheel wells are stunning! One of my favourite aircraft and will be following with interest
-
Thanks for the continued interest. The model is now 99.9% complete so I'll try and take some photos soon. My next decision is what to do next - something from the stash or finish off a part-built Tamiya 1:48 Beaufighter that I started about 5 years ago!
-
Thank you! All the remaining bits are now painted, they just need fitting and then a coat of matt varnish needs applying. Then what are you waiting for! Get one!
-
Thanks for the kind comments. I'm so close to completing it now but I hate all the final fiddly bits!
-
Well I've made a little bit of progress. The prop blades and spinner have been painted and 'chipped' - I'm pretty chuffed with the chipping on the props, I've never been able to get this looking right in the past. I've also sprayed a bit of 'browny-black' around the exhaust and wing MG's. Next up is fitting all the fiddly bits [u/C doors etc] and finihing off the canopy. The end is in sight...! Thanks for looking

Very nice, wouldn't mind one of these myself...

Fantastic!
