  1. Bit more progress today. Undersides have been painted along with the yellow bit under the cowl: Matt
  2. That cockpit looks excellent - I have this kit myself so following your progress with interest
  3. Thanks for the comments! Bit of preshading done today [this has to be one of the most boring tasks in my opinion]. Been looking at the decals, interestingly there isn't one for the spinner 'spiral' - bit of a shame, not something I have the patience to be able to paint. Thanks Matt
  4. Hello, Thought I'd post some pics of my progress with this kit. I've not built an Airfix model for years and years and this is the first of the 'new' Airfix kits I've tried. I wanted it ever since I saw it had been released as the scheme is one of my favourite [i have decals to make a 1/48 version sometime in the future]. I managed to pick it up at SMW. Apart from a few publicised niggles [thickness of wing trailing edges etc], it's gone together pretty well although I have managed to damage a few small bits due to the huge sprue attachment points. Thanks for looking Matt
  5. That's one of the best completed builds of this kit I've seen - amazing!
  6. This is looking superb! Really like the weathered effect you're creating!
  7. Noticed that I'd forgotten to add the pilots headrest in the above photos. Here are some, hopefully, clearer photos with the headrest fitted.
  8. Here's my finished model, built in record time for me! Decent kit, some panel lines a bit shallow, but overall a very good fit of parts. Built out of the box, the only additions being some seatbelts, brake lines on the undercarriage legs and the small 'strut' in the centre of the nose intake [made from stretched sprue]. Now, you'll have to excuse the incorrect finish - I painted the model, applied the decals then started on the red flashes on the nose. I could not get some of them to bed down correctly around the various lumps and bumps despite generous, multiple applications of decal softener. Having stripped them off, I attempted to paint the red areas - this was equally unsuccessful. In the end, I settled for touching up the camo colours and living with it. I painted the spinner black because red did not look right without the flashes. All colours mixed by eye from Tamiya Acrylics so again, apologies if they're off! Thanks for looking Matt
  9. Progress on my Phantom has stalled so I thought I'd give this kit a go. Very basic detailing, especially in the cockpit, and the panel lines are a bit inconsistent too [very shallow in places] so I'm not going to spend much time on this one [famous last words, my progress is always slooooooowwww!]. Having said that, everything has fitted together pretty well so far. Thanks for looking Matt
  10. Thanks for your comment, sorry I missed it at the time! Highlighting the panel lines is really easy - give it a go on the next model you make
  11. Hi all, I'm thinking about buying a new compressor [and new airbrush] and have been looking at the Iwata Sprint Jet. I've read lots of reviews but was wondering if anyone here uses one and if so, what are your opinions? Thanks in advance Matt
  12. Still plodding on with this. The arrestor hook had a big sink mark that needed sorting wth a bit of filler but nothing too bad. As you can see from the photos, the intakes are a decent fit as are all the bits on the nose section. Thanks for looking Matt
  13. Thanks, been pleasantly surprised so far. Having said that, the canopies are awful, no defined framing at all - going to be a nightmare to mask! Cheers Matt
  14. Not the red/black display version shown on the box! Starting to look more like a Phantom now... Thanks for looking Matt
  15. Maybe that's what I was doing wrong then - if I ever build another I'll give that a go!
  16. I've made some more progress today. When dry fitting the cockpit module to the fuselage, it didn't look too promising but, I'm pleased to say, it actually went together really well! The join line underneath is excellent and the upper side is also pretty good [just needs a little bit of filling and sanding around the intake]. Thanks for looking Matt
  17. So I picked this kit up for £3.99 at Home Bargains the other week. First jet I've built in at least 10 years. The kit has nice engraved panel lines etc but also has quite a lot of flash and huge lumps of plastic attaching the various bits to the sprues! Fit of parts so far has been pretty good, although a few bits have been more difficult than others. I've not spent much time painting the cockpit, just sprayed an overall coat of grey with the instrument panels painted black by hand, a bit of drybrushing and a few bits picked out in different colours. The join between the cockpit module and fuselage is going to be the next challenge! Thanks for looking Matt
  18. Thank you all for the positive comments, much appreciated!
  19. Thanks for the comments, much appreciated! Martin - the canopy just wouldn't fit in the closed position - I can only assume it's an error on my part but the fit wasn't even close!
  20. After a flurry of activity yesterday, this 'quick build' [started 15th June!] is finally finished! This is Tamiya's lovely P-47 Razorback kit built totally out of the box, including seatbelt decals. The only issue I had was not being able to close the canopy, but it wasn't really a problem becaue I wanted it open anyway. Painted using Xtracrylics and Tamiya paint. Hope you like it! Thanks for looking Matt
