We have a start on the RLM79 topcoat. All sprayed freehand, with just some small areas of masking around the wingroot to protect the yellow cowl. There's some slight overspray to clean up, but on the whole, I'm pleased so far. Matt

Finally some painting progress tonight. Still quite rough at this stage not helped by interruptions. Thanks for looking Matt

Hello all, After a slow few nights, with limited time or progress, I'm finally in a position to start painting. As can be seen, I'll be using Mr Hobby acrylics for the main colours. Thanks Matt

Dennis is doing his best to blow my house down outside, meanwhile I made a small amount of progress tonight. I got a wash on the spinner, to highlight the recessed detail. I also assembled and painted the undercarriage legs. I used a 50/50 mix of Xtracrylic RLM 02 and Tamiya XF-22 RLM Grey for the colour. In hindsight, and after some weathering, it's a little dark to my eye. I also managed to get some paint on the seams to check them. So far so good so hopefully I'll be able to get started on the painting proper soon. Matt

I built an Academy one a few years ago in RAF colours with a sharkmouth. The added green in your scheme will add a pop of colour to yours for sure!

I considered the salt method, but I often get a powdery residue left on the parts afterwards. This time I sprayed the lightened colour through a piece of scouring pad. Matt

Looks good. I do like a Sabre in RAF colours. Matt

You betcha! I know it's a common choice but I'm a big fan of this aircraft.

Slow night tonight and not a very exciting post I'm afraid. But it's good for me to be able to look back at the steps I took with the model. Anyway, I painted the spinner using LifeColor Incinerated White and, well, it's okay - I'm not totally happy with the finish. I also painted the rudder using a mix of Mr Hobby H33 Russet and Tamiya XF-7 Flat Red. I then added white to the mix and applied some subtle mottling but found it looked a bit pink. To fix this I added a drop of H33 to the gloss varnish which evened things out again. Thanks for looking Matt

Hi all, Not as much progress as I'd hoped, but a busy few days and a non-tired toddler put paid to my plans! In the time I had available, I decided to paint the prop, and apply some weathering to it, just as an experiment in achieving a worn finish. And a cruel close-up... I've also managed to get the airframe pretty much assembled, at least as much as possible. Matt

Hi @Baldy - I have obliterated it with my sanding because I had to, to get rid of a slight step in the joint. I'll be rescribing it though! Matt

A bit more progress tonight as I've managed to assemble and fit the wings. Fit was not quite as good as I expected, but maybe that's down to me! Sanding the seams has destroyed some of the panel lines, so I'll need to do a bit of rescribing. The eagle eyed will notice the lack of a yellow fuel pipe in the cockpit in the photo above. It snapped when being removed from the sprue and one part disappeared into the ether! Matt

I moved them elsewhere. The watermark wasn't showing for me, I guess because I was viewing on the same device. I won't be using it again. Matt
-
Ah thanks, I wasn't aware of the Photobucket watermark. Can you tell me if they are better now? Matt

I've now got the fuselage halves together. I'm really not a fan of kits where there are no location pips, it makes it unnecessarily difficult to get everything lined up. Thanks for looking Matt

Hi all, I actually started this back in 2018 but, for a variety of reasons, progress stalled and it remained on the shelf of doom ever since. Last night I got the urge to do something different, so I dusted it off and out it came. I'd already assembled and painted the cockpit, but in hindsight it was pretty dark. So I applied some shading to lighten things up, followed by some washes and picking out some of the details. Hopefully tonight I can assemble the IP. Thanks for looking Matt

Thanks for all the replies. Parabellum had what I was after and an order has been placed. Thanks for the recommendation. Matt

Thanks for that. I could not find a list of stockists on their website despite looking. I'd tried Hannants but they don't have what I want, Armour Models website is no longer live but I'd not heard of Parabellum.

Hi all, Been away from modelling for quite a while. Was sorting through my stash recently when I came across this kit that I bought ages ago. I've never really been an armour modeller, but after looking through the box, I was inspired to give it a go. Construction is 90% complete, just a few small pieces to add before I can start painting. Thanks for looking Matt

Hi all, Just getting back into modelling after a long break but armour this time, something that's relatively new to me. The kits that have tempted me back are Tamiya's 1:48 KV-1 and Stug III Ausf G. I know Hauler do a set of replacement grilles for each kit, but I can't find a UK stockist. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or towards alternative options please? Thanks in advance Matt

Finished: Airfix 1:72 Lightning F6
matto21 replied to matto21's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
This is going to be my last post on BM for some time. Life is about to change significantly for me, and modelling will have to take an increasingly back seat. Thanks to those who followed my WIP thread for the above model. All the best Matt -
Hi all, Here's my finished Lightning. Hopefully it captures the look of the Lightning well but the kit was not without its challenges to build. I used a replacement resin cockpit and wheels from Barracuda Studios and a pitot tube from Master Models. All of the painting was done using a combination of Mr Hobby and Ammo acrylics. I also used the kit supplied decals. Hope you like it! Thanks for looking. Matt

Small update: Done some work in the cockpit. I really don't like PE belts - they're just too flat - so I made my own. Ok, they're not super-detailed but they're a bit more 3D. All chipping was done with a silver pencil. Matt

Hi all, With the Lightning almost finished, I thought I'd start my next project. I've only recently bought this from the lovely folk at MJW Models but I wanted to get started ASAP! There are several interesting schemes in this boxing but I've been wanting to do Marseille's aircraft for ages! I hope you'll join me for this - as usual it won't be quick! Unfortunately some of the glazing parts were missing so I've emailed Eduard for replacements. While I wait I'm going to crack on. Hopefully I'll be able to take some RFI pics of the Lightning at the weekend! Thanks Matt
