  1. Hi everyone Just a quick update for you my Chipmunk edges ever closer to getting finished, I just need to add the seat belts, attach the windscreen and canopy, add the wheels and all the little bits and pieces so I can finally call it finished.. umm that canopy really needs some work.. Anyway all the best Iain
  2. Thanks buddy. Hi John Many thanks mate Hi Ray Thank you - I saw your build, very nice (even though it was Army - oh the horror!) and yes the canopy is a bit of a devil to put together and now I've unmasked mine I've as bit of a mess of it. Cheers all Iain
  3. Good afternoon everyone I was at RAF Bentley Priory when the station closed in 2007 and part of our last duties whilst there was to clear out the buildings. In Bldg266 we had a conference room and whilst we were clearing it out we found a large packing crate and inside was this.. Everyone at Bentley knew I was a cabbage and they offered the model to me (otherwise it would have been skipped) and I obviously didn't hesitate in excepting it. For reasons only known to me I took the model but not the packing crate and once Bentley had closed I was posted to SHAPE in Belgium. Now I had a problem how to transport the model across Europe? At the time of my posting my mum and dad had decided to pack up and move to the South of France so I entrusted them with transporting the model to France, which they duly did and there it stayed until last week when we were finally able to met up here in Cornwall and with them they brought amongst other things this Phantom. As you can see its very dusty and it has received some slight damage to the sidewinder rails but other than that it's in remarkably good shape. So what to do? I'll obviously clean it and I might try and replace the missing sidewinders and rails what do you guys think? Iain
  4. Hi Adrian Thanks very much - There certainly does seem to be a few variations on a theme with regards to FTS paint schemes, which ever one its painted in they all look gorgeous! All the best Iain
  5. Hiya Thank you. It’s a really good kit, the only real problem that I’m aware of is the excessive negative bend/curve of the wing which is easily rectified by removing the locating pins and the canopy is a bit of a faff to put together, but other than that she’s a little gem I think you’ll enjoy the experience. Hi James Thanks for the kind words. I have to agree the red/white/grey training livery just suits this plane to a T, it reminds me of my time in ‘91 going through basic training at RAF Swinderby, happy days 👍 And yes the Phantom - I’m very keen to get back to work on that one, she’s crying out to get finished. Hi Chris Thank you buddy, I gotta say yours turned out rather splendidly too, it’s a cracking little kit isn’t it? many thanks everyone Iain
  6. Hey everyone Well its been a wee while since I actively posted anything what with life, COVID (grrrrrrr) and stuff getting in the way but just to show that I have been plodding away slowly here are a couple of photo's of my Chipmunk. I'm building her as WB585, No 2 FTS.The decals by Cartograph are beautiful (as you'd expect) and the kit as a whole, although not flawless still builds up to a very pleasing replica of a very iconic airplane... I don't actually have that much more to do on her, all the main components are completed, I have a seat harness from Eduard ready for fitting and a little decaling to complete. Once I have finished her I'm going to turn my attention back to my Revell Phantom FGR2 build as that has been sat on the shelf for way too long. Cheers everyone Iain
  7. That’s lovely, really like that. Well done buddy. Iain
  8. Looks great, good job buddy. I do like the tiger nose art, very cool 👍 all the best Iain
  9. Absolutely lovely. Airfix really should be congratulated for producing such a lovely little kit, ok it’s not perfect but it’s not far off. Hats off to you Chris yet another fabulous build 👍 Iain
  10. That turned out really well and I have to agree they do look fab in the red, white and grey scheme. great stuff. Iain
  11. You’ve done a great job there mate, I really like that well done! all the best Iain
  12. Hi everyone Well the wings are on and ummmm... The black on the wing tip shows how much material I will need to remove (its the same on the other side) and yes that is a glue mark.. Umm I had to use some sprue goo to fill some of the seams....yes that is a finger print! And a few pictures of the airframe essentially finished (other than clean up) Looking at the starboard horizontal stab it looks like its slight squiff....well its not now! Cheers Iain
  13. Hi John. It seems that there are a lot of folks on BM who have had similar experiences, fantastic times eh? Cheers Iain
  14. Bugger! I've just glued the wings on and yes I think they do have a slight droop and no the wing tips don't line up (I'll take some pictures later today once it has had chance to go off a little) 😟 Hi Andy, Yeah your absolutely right I tend to go over board with AM which takes for ever to prep and fit (not always that well I have to say) and it just becomes a chore, but this little kit is making me enjoy myself again. Cheers Iain
  15. Why thank you Hey Chris. Thank you buddy, yeah it really is fab kit some of the tolerances are very tight but it’s nothing that a swipe with a sanding stick won’t cure. Hiya for the interior I used Tamiya tyre black, dark grey and light grey for the scuffs plus washes in grey and black. Now that I would like to see! Hey Roger, I remember Chipmunks when I was at Swinderby back in ‘91 8FTS I think? I’ve always liked the red and white colour scheme they carried. cheers everyone Iain
  16. Hey everyone Just another small update on my Chipmunk. I decided to paint the engine just to see how it looked and once again I'm very impressed.. ..Another well done Airfix from me! As you can see from the pictures nothing is glued yet I'm waiting for some harnesses to arrive before I button her up but once again OOB she certainly looks the part.. Anyway that all from me, we're off down the pub for a couple of swift ones.. Cheers Iain
  17. Me too! Although I was never in the ATC I did fly G-APLO out of Newquay airport back in 2017 and had a whale of a time 😁 Hey Colin thanks buddy, the instrument panel OOB is ace all I’ve done is slap on some paint and stick on the sticker! cheers Iain
  18. Hey everyone Well I'm enjoying myself immensely. Airfix have done a sterling job on this kit, the cockpit is a peach.. and all this is OOB! Cheers all Iain
  19. Cheers buddy. I'm happy that I have taken a step back and remembered what making a model is all about - enjoyment and I have to say I'm loving this little plane. Thank you (on both counts!) Welcome aboard buddy - I hope I can do it justice Thanks buddy I appreciate it.
  20. Hi everyone Long time no see. The past few months have been a real modelling black hole where I haven't been bothered to go to my workshop let alone do any modelling. Builds that I've started are as they were with no progress being made on any of them, I think that over my recent modelling history I've lost my way and for some reason felt the need to over complicate my builds with too much resin and etch. Now don't get me wrong I enjoy working with both mediums but they can sap the enjoyment that comes with just sticking bits of plastic together and squirting paint everywhere. I have a little time on my hands over the next couple of weeks (I start a new job on the 24th) I thought it was about time to get back to basics and build a model OOB and just enjoy it, so to that end and as the title suggests, I'm going to build the fairly new Airfix 1/48 Chippy. I started by just gluing the motor together, just because it looks rather nice and I enjoy just gluing things together... ..I'm not sure if I'm going to build the model with the engine exposed but it really is a lovely little thing..well done Airfix! I have splattered some paint around and painted up the cockpit area, I used several different shades of dark grey, black and light grey to try and get some tonal variations because otherwise its pretty boring in there.. I will add some seatbelts in due course and tonight I'll get the instrument panels finished using the kit decals. Thanks for looking and see you all soon Iain
