Phabulous Phantom Photos (revell 1:72)
gregg136 replied to gregg136's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Cheers everyone, I was a bit unsure of how it would look in the end. Not sure I understand you there. -
Looking impressive so far.

Well I'm calling this done before I go to the Wearmouth bridge and throw the ****** off. Kit itself is smashing, went together with no fuss and simple enough. Similar with the painting. Varnishing ready for decaling fine, no issues there either, the decals for the most part went on fine the only really frustrating one was around the nose, thanks revell for not taking all the sticky out parts when printing that one. The result is a wrinkled mess at the front where it's folded over or been stretched. Tried just making cuts around them so it'll lie better but my blade needs replacing as it's blunted and it just ripped it. Undercarriadge was a bit fiddly and it had settled at an angle meaning to doors didn't fit as snug and are out of line a bit. Bit annoyed at that but I'm blaming the medication for giving me a case of the shakes, and it's the first jet I've put together in about a year (which is a Frog F4 FAA, that still needs finishing)

Bad back Builds (Blenheim, Sea Hurricane, Heinkel)
gregg136 replied to gregg136's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks for the comments guys. If I knew it was the First Blenheim I'd have made more of an effort. Thanks for the offer Hook, I think there's an old busted Heinkel at my parents house so I should be able to salvage that. -
So at the minute I've been struck down with a bad back (recurring problem/nightmare) so have had some time off work (woo hoo) Since the only chair I have any degree of comfort in is the one next to the model area it was a good opportunity to go through the stash a bit. Rather than post individual threads I'll put them all in one. First up the Airfix Blenheim, last one in the shop and I couldn't resist, fit together like a dream with the only issue being around the join between the cockpit and the main body. Rather an interesting build the use of spars to build up the wheel bay rather than just crude mouldings on the wing was a good idea. However disaster struck joining the transparencies together and I got glue all down the glass. I taught the neighbours a few new swear words at that point. A gap in the cockpit/fuselage reminding me I need to buy some filler. Glue on the clear, not going to lie, I nearly cried. I can't wait for the fighter variant although I noticed most of the parts are already in the box. Next up, the Revell Sea Hurricane, I chose this scheme for one reason, it was based next door to where I'm going on holiday St Merryn. And finally the Revell 1:72 Heinkel, thought I'd do the smaller one before tackling the 1:32 hiding in the cupboard, disaster on this one as I can't find the transparency for the top so I'm calling this one as done as I can get it until I dig around behind the desk. Next up? Who knows, I have a 1:72 Lancaster 98% built but I got so sick of it the thought of going back to it isn't pleasant, I have a 1:72 Airfix Spitfire in the blue plastic and a ton of markings I can use, a Man in space collection and about 100 other kits. Or I wait until tomorrow and start the 1:32 Revell Spitfire my Dad got me for my Birthday. Thanks for looking.

My first ever tank (Sherman 1/72)
gregg136 replied to gregg136's topic in Ready for Inspection - Armour
Update: So I finally found time to get another one done, this time it's the Firefly. Not only that but I picked up their M5 Half Track, again 3 in the box with all the crew and troops for the back. So the Sherman production line was suspended while I put one together. Again no problems with fit, flash or construction, all of which was nice and simple for this newbie. I also got the Airfix battlefront set, I'm going to use the base and forward post and have the vehicles driving down the road while the Paras look on. I'm also hoping to get something a bit bigger, I've just seen the Miniart figures and diorama accessories. Anyway, enjoy and thanks for looking. -

My first ever tank (Sherman 1/72)

Since I had that in my hand at the same time I feel I've dodged a bullet, I was also tempted by the M5 halftrack with 40 (!) figures. -

Ah, excellent. Thanks. -
All you need is a dodgy looking propellor plane with 5 o'clock charlie flying over trying to hit the ammo dump.

Even though I've been making models on and off since as far as I can remember, I've never made a tank. I went through a Humvee phase a few years ago but that's about it. At the weekend I fancied taking a crack at one and ended up in Argos with some vouchers I got from work, hoping to get the Airfix Battle Front set (2 tanks and a diorama -another thing I've never done- seemed like a good start) however it wasn't available so that's ordered for later this week. In the meantime I went into Boyes to see what they had and there were a few Airfix ones for about £7-£8. But next to them they had some from the 'Plastic soldier company' who I never heard of and there's not much on here about them either. But then again they're aimed more at the wargamer but at £11 for 3 Shermans I won't argue. I wasn't expecting much at worst it would be a cheap thing to fail at and bin, or end up like the infamous "British battle fighter" but as a tank. However I'm quite impressed with them, they're only made up of a few parts and the fit is excellent and from my untrained eye it looks like a sherman. This is the first one of three, while reading up I learned the British would team two shermans up with a firefly variant since the latter wasn't very effective against softer targets. So here is the first of the myself and the plastic soldier company's 1/72 Shermans. I'll put the other two up when they're done, any tips on this would be helpful as I hope to get the re released Airfix D-Day 70 stuff and make something a bit larger (providing I don't cock up the battle front) As an aside does anyone know where I may get some decals for the tanks, they lack any sort of markings and it's nagging me. Thanks for looking

So here we go. I've been after this since I was bitten by the returning space bug. Picked it up at the Northern model show on Sunday and got stuck right in. No WIP for the redstone, but at 5 parts it wasn't worth doing. Hope to get the rockets all assembled this week ready for painting at the weekend. I love them so far though, no major fit issues and the decals are a delight to use. Enjoy. Sorry for the poor quality, the focus is a bit out, I'll try again once I charge it up.

I ended up picking this up today (so happy I skipped out the model show) Are you bothering with the card display? I built the base up for it but it's pretty frustrating. Agree about the simplicity though. Half an hour and I had the Redstone and Atlas built. -
Elon Musk will be unveiling Dragon V2 early tomorrow morning (damn you time zones!) the manned version of their dragon capsule. So far we know it has a pretty snazzy display panel and leather seats. Hopefully it's a bit more watertight than the last few capsules that have been sent up. http://sploid.gizmodo.com/first-look-at-dragon-v2-the-first-manned-spaceship-by-1583376826

Well there goes my week off. Thanks

I'd love a Dragon in 1:32 though.

Hey me too. I did the Intro to Astronomy module with the OU a few years back along with the big 60 credit Exploring Science module (I was enrolled for a degree in Physics) but with the workload and having just started work full time I couldn't fit it in. I was also getting a bit annoyed with the quality of the courses and some of the staff. Now things have settled down I'm thinking of resuming it but somewhere else. I know Lancaster Uni have a distance learning Astronomy/Physics programme and it isn't overpriced to the point of needing more student loans. 23 lectures on the Shuttle? Where do I sign?

That is a Spacecraft Sir, we do not refer to it as a capsule Can you guess what movie is on Sky right now?

There is no way I could buy and build this without SWMBO going insane at me quoting "the Right Stuff" constantly. 100%
