Discovery have the builders model for the Mauretania, but it's not in the hall with the other models, it's right at the back of the "Tyneside challenge" room, took me about 50 visits before I finally found it and I'm still figuring out how to steal it.. They also had an exhibition a few years back about the shipyards with a section of the hull plating and the builders model of the last Ark Royal.

They didn't say 1/24 did they. 1/350 QE Carrier, you heard it hear first, because I heard it from a mate who's brother knows a guy who drinks with a person who knows someone who has a dog, and they walk it and meet this other guy from Airfix.

So this is my first shooty-drivy thing that wasn't a little 1/72 Plastic Soldier Company tank Apologies for the rather shoddy photographs, the light is a bit naff here at night. I'll pop some better ones up tomorrow. Although it has revealed a few bits that need touching up at the rear. All together though it was a nice learning curve (hate tracks though) and probably gave me a kick to finish off the Jackal, Coyote and the Lynx. Although I did just buy a Revell Panzer 35t (it's my ride on World of Tanks) and the 1/32 Phantom. Thanks for looking

That's looking great, I still refuse to believe you're spending an hour a day on it. Pleased the weathering trick worked I remember how battered these things could get. Hopefully the rest goes ok and then you can go back to the 1/32 spitfire with its pain in the (&%^ cockpit

Well it's all gone together despite my best efforts to c**k it up. I'm dreading the painting of it, I don't have an airbrush and the colour scheme has them all fading into each other. Any ideas how to get that effect?

I wouldn't worry too much, I mean it's not as if they were perfectly straight on the aircraft anyway

Nice job with the paint. Looks excellent so far.

The only thing I've found frustrating on the kit is the mechanism for the swing wings, but some of that was due to me putting the but that connects them to the fuselage backwards (duh) Oh and the decal for the pilots panel got absolutely trashed so hand painted it.

As a fellow user of the hairy stick....ahem... they're brilliant looking especially the way you can't see the brush marks. I love the Red Arrow but I'd end up looking like this if I tried to paint one.

I've got one of these in the stash, but I like having space to move in the living room. Looks stunning.

I put this is the "waking nightmare" pile a few months ago, the assembly itself went flawless as did the painting, hand brushed with Tamiya Acrylics (I know.) I then decided that at a ton she isn't going to look sparkling clean so put a little bit of Humbrol black weathering powder mix on. Sadly my mix only did one wing (mind it did look spectacular) and the subsequent one wasn't 'thin' enough, so that's why this thing looks like it landed upside down in a puddle. Although honestly I'm happy with the final result. You'll notice certain parts look "Factory fresh" I read a bit about the aircraft and others and how parts were replaced. So I left those clean as if she's had repair work done (Note this isn't meant to be a 100% exact copy) but it adds interest to it. And it is in NO WAY because I weathered it forgetting that they needed to be added first I used the 'ton up' Lancaster decal sheet and chose 'No enemy plane' because you don't see enough of her. I do have another 2 lancs left to build (one revell and one old airfix mould) so will probably do the Phantom of the Ruhr and I can't decide on the other one. Sorry the picture quality is rubbish, it's a new camera and the size of this is a bit outside my expertise with it. Enjoy, I did. I'll try and get some better shots tommorrow when the light is a bit better (and I can throw in the Airfix dambuster one too.)

Ahhhhh I see. I thought that's what you meant. Yea they went down ok, theres a nice deep panel line that runs along the border of the two colours too so it's easy enough to paint as well.
