  1. You'll get the room back eventually, then when you do I'll contribute to the new stash!
  2. I’m sure I’ll have something I can put together.
  3. Hi all thanks for all the comments and tips that’s appreciated. Stowage is a good option, I’ve done similar with a Sherman and it does add some interest, I’ll try the oils and picking details with a lighter shade next time. I may have bought myself an Achilles as an early present so look forward to trying them out on that.
  4. Thanks, I’ve had to use my phone camera which isn’t great and the light in the room is pretty poor but the tools and cables are all different and pop a bit. But this is partly why I’m not a fan of “green” vehicles as they are just a bit….. dull. I think I’ll try oil paints next time I do one and it’ll add some tonal variation. Brush painting only is a bit limiting.
  5. Evenin'. I fancied a break from sand coloured things (M2 Bradley and the IDF Zelda) and since I had a fair amount of AK's WW2 British paint set and I had just rattled through the Airfix Cromwell it seemed daft not to raid the stash and pull out Tamiya's Comet. It's Tamiya so you know it fit together with no issues, the instructions were spot on and there's no real "fiddly" bits. All hand painted using AK's SCC Olive Drab, Rubber black and the track and wheel paint set. The weathering is a mix of AK's Weathering (Brown Wash and Dark Streaking grime) which I've never used before and Tamiya's mud and flat earth weathering sticks. I will just point out that whoever decided to do the white star decal that way deserves a pay rise. I was pleased it wasn't just one solid piece like the Tamiya Cromwell was and hasn't been mangled. Thanks for looking.
  6. That looks brilliant, I love the paint job on it and the classic sharks mouth.
  7. Looking good so far, the detail looks really impressive. I can’t wait to see how this goes and get my hands on one.
  8. Afternoon all. Last progress shots before it goes in the gallery, just the aerials to go on but I'll wait until I set a candle away when it gets dark and add them and get some better shots tomorrow if the light is better. I did pull the troublesome part of the "3" off the back and hand painted it, it came in two pieces with the bit inside the "dip" of the rear hatch separate but it didn't fit at all so out it came. Tried the weathering stuff but i'm not sure i've definitely overdone it but not much I can do now bar wash it all off and start again and it's on the top shelf out of view anyway.
  9. Just the odds and ends today, all the tools and spares are added, I'm leaning towards not including all the baggage however that depends entirely on the weathering tomorrow. I've since pulled the 3 off the back, there's a lot of carrier film on and it's affecting how it folds into the opening so will hand paint that on tomorrow. Other than that there's been no problems, the tracks are also the right way round now, that was an easy fix just pulled it around then unhitched the staple. Let's see how the weathering goes.
  10. Thanks, I bought a set of flat brushes a while back as they cover so much better but I always worry there's death star trench brush marks on them. I found going over it again with a lightly loaded brush and swirling it breaks any up. I have noticed I've missed along the upper edge of the rear hatch and the covers for the viewfinder but they're a quick fix. I'll need to root around for cleaner as the streaking stuff I've bought is enamel but I can get on with the stowage in the meantime.
  11. Sitrep: Paint arrived but the damn tracking didn't update so it was downstairs waiting. So where is it at now: One thing despite triple checking is the right hand tracks are on the wrong way, luckily the wheel are's stuck in so I should be able to pop it off and flip it. The corner is all stuck down now so shouldn't budge on the other side. Speaking of the tracks, I remembered I had tried to make a Panzer IV once and the CA glue absolutely destroyed the tracks, the rubber used on these certainly feels just as flimsy as they did so rather than risk it, I've stuck a staple in it and tucked it up top out of the way. The Paint is a pretty good match for an Bradley and like the rest of the AK one's brushed quite nice. There's some touch ups needed (Observer covers) as the paint isn't that far off the colour of the plastic and now it's winter the lighting isn't fantastic. That's it for today, thanks.
  12. Thanks, so am I when it finally arrives. With regards to Tamiya, my first armoured kit was the AFV club Churchill which was an absolute nightmare to do, If I didn't get the Tamiya 105mm Sherman for my Birthday which I then finished first I probably would have jacked the whole armour thing in. The detail on their Cromwell for example still holds up against the newer airfix one (I think the Tamiya looks better but that's probably the builder more than the kit). I've just pulled the little Tamiya Afrika Corp. Panzer II off the top of the stash to have a look and the detail on that is phenomenal, even with moulded tools and hatches. Although that's not my kit to build I can see that making a late entry to the GB. (Has there ever been a GB with 3 generations taking part?)
  13. Yeah it's been nice and straightforward, no 20 + hinges and handles to glue down or PE to try and bend. Painting should be pretty simple. Had to take the side panels off as I can't get the tracks to roll through easily with them being a bit bent out of shape, one came off easy but the other rather than come off pulled the upper hull away, it's given me enough space and I can easily seal it back down once done.
  14. Well the good news is the delivery is due tomorrow which is just as well as I've had another couple of hours with it after a break yesterday and pretty much all put together. Ignore the tracks being the wrong way, this is just to make sure they can go on ok. Absolutely no issues with the construction but the tracks are slightly crooked which may be an issue down the line and the connecting holes for one have bent 90 degrees. I usually dab them with Superglue and then reinforce it with a staple or two, the joins are then hidden at the top out of sight so shouldn't be too troublesome. The only other thing was a slight gap around the turret where the gun mount is, it's all filled but then it's hidden behind the layers of armour and the gun is immobile once you put the part running from the commanders hatch to the mount so it won't be visible. Should all be wrapped up by the end of the week I think. Thanks for stopping by.
  15. Looking really good, you deserve a medal just for tackling the wheels, 1/35 is a monumental nightmare so 1/72 I shudder at. There's quite a nice amount of detail on it for something so small too.
  16. Thanks, paint's on order it was fun trying to pin down the right colour for an Iraqi Freedom machine but settled on AK's "Carc Tan" it probably isn't 100% accurate but it looks like the colours changed a lot during the war (50 shades of Tan is the less popular follow-up) plus now I have the colour I can accidentally buy more models. I've also bought a bottle of AK's "OIF Streaking grime", I've tried using similar in the past but with mixed results so this could go either way. Quick 10 minutes today once the child went off for a night at Grandma and Grandads so got the upper and lower hull put together and the rear hatch sealed up, I'll probably just potter on with it and get the sub assemblies done ready for the paint to arrive. If I get it done there's always something from the stash to do. Forgot I had the Tamiya Comet at the bottom of the pile and there's always Airfix's ferret.
  17. Cheers everyone. It’s now on the bookcase. The countdown to the inevitable accident has started 😂
  18. Hello again, I reckon there's enough time to get this finished for the GB, I bought it a few weeks ago after battling the AFV Doher and needed something a bit "easier" to do. Tamiya so expecting a nice experience with it, no interior so it should be pretty straight forward, only issue for now is sourcing the paint for it, it looks like it will be a trip to the LMS next weekend (Subtle hint for @stevej60there). Build pictures to follow this weekend. Thanks for stopping.
  19. Academy 1/35 M113 Zelda (Build thread)
  20. Another few hours today and this is the result: The kit is fantastic, the fit is excellent bar a slight issue joining the front of the hull with the roof but that was probably more me than it. The only word of caution is in the instructions it asks you to add a part for the exhaust that looks like an elbow joint. Don't. As usual, all brush painted with AK's 'IDF Sand grey 1970's - 1980's' and the other colours are their S.C.C Olive drab, the interior is their IJN J3 - Hai Iro although for the next one I will get a pot of their AFV interior green (also because I have a HB AAVP to do) and the other colours are AK's Burnt Umber and a weird green mix I threw together just to add some variety to the stores. Weathering is a mix of Tamiya Dark Iron dry brushed or dry brushed then run over with a large flat paintbrush and the Tamiya Weathering stick (sand) although I've just about run out so that's a trip to the LMS. Thanks for looking. Shalom!
  21. Evening, just an hour or two today, not feeling too great (long covid is a right laugh) but managed to get the interior finished off and it all sealed up. Started by putting just a small amount of wear and tear in it, this was mainly a dry brushing of Tamiya dark iron to bring the floor up and put some scuff marks along the edges of the storage areas and a few other placed. Finished up with a light brushing with a tamiya sand weathering stick (the cheap hard plastic brushes in kids art sets are great for this, just run it over the top of the stick and apply) Once that was done it was just a case of putting the roof on (once all the internal hand holds and levers and the hatches are applied along with the front of the hull like so: As you can see there's a slight fit issue where the front hull joins the roof in the corner by the engine component, those building this may want to make sure it's a very clean mating surface and that it's all level. Cosy! Last shot is with the hatches open, they're all moveable apart from the drivers as the hinges didn't sit right so that had to be sealed up. Next few days should see the rest of the hull parts added and the wheels painted/tidied up. The tracks are just the rubber band ones for now but I'll see how I feel about them once I've painted them up. I wish I filled in those ejector marks now, but in all honesty once it's done and on the shelf with the rest it'll be all closed up.
  22. That's the option I've gone for, there's quite a bit of external stores that can go on and it seemed a shame not to use it or hide it behind the armour. However the decision not to buy anything extra hit a snag, as you can see there's an awful amount of space in the back and it seems a shame to have it bare so I'll be ordering the AK IDF accessory kit and pick a few things/maps from that to include. I'm ending today with quite a fair amount done. There's a bit of tidying up to do with some spots missing paint and the orange plastic showing through and I'll give it some weathering at some point to hide the sloppiness. On the plus side if I screw up I can seal it all up and no-one can see. Still absolutely no problems putting it together. Cheers for looking.
  23. So what was meant to be a quick look through the kit escalated somewhat, after an hour the engine assembly is done and is in place. Immediate thoughts are this is a b****y good kit, it's a happy balance between the ease of the Tamiya and the detail of more expensive kits. No issues at all so far. Off for a pasty and coffee now. Thanks for looking.
