  1. A mix of 009 Society kits and scratchbuilt wagon bodies on Peco chassis. I'll go back and get the write up sorted - Think we're looking at 7 hours in total, done mostly when Mrs B had gone to bed, leaving me to be supervised by various domestic pets. RNAD ammunition van - 009 Society kit, not yet painted. RNAD Flat Wagon - 009 Society kit, painted in Lifecolor Grey 507B RNAD Flat Wagons - Scratchbuilt bodies on Peco Chassis, the ends could vary between 0 to 4 planks in height. Peco 009 couplings added. I now have more wagons for my next 009 project... IanJ
  2. Won't get them all done, but have been beavering away since last night. Currently waiting on paint drying and handrails being fitted. IanJ
  3. Got to take the layout to "Narrow Gauge NoW*" at Portland College near Mansfield this last weekend, where there seemed to be quite a bit of interest with punters and modellers actually seeing one of these Scalescenes layouts in the flesh. Crane was finished in the week running up to the show, the new orange loco was toned down by weathering, a steel bodied bogie wagon scratchbuilt and lampposts added. Not sure if it'll be out again anytime soon, but perhaps it's already served its purpose and I should take a look at a slightly more ambitious project going forward. 4. It's sort of aircraft related.... My dad spent 9 years in the senior service and on one of his ships, a Battle Class destroyer, they were doing live AA fire against a drogue being towed by a Gloster Meteor. The twin Bofors guns were being used on what was known as a STAAG mounting where the guns were radar trained onto their target. Said target was flying parallel to the ship and the STAAG, having picked up and dealt with the drogue, started working its way up the towing cable. When the Meteor crew realised this, the cable was released and they hightailed it out of there. (That's what my dad said anyway - Then again, it wasn't until I was able to go and vote for myself at a general election, that I discovered that Plaid Cymru didn't contest constituencies in the East Midlands. Whenever I asked him who he'd voted for when I was younger, he said Welsh Nationalist!) IanJ
  5. Kenny Rogers had an operation? Presumably to find out what condition his condition was in.... It's OK, I can find my own way out. IanJ
  6. Further stock has been prepared... 3D printed van on the left - Destined to be mounted on a Peco N Gauge wagon chassis, 009 Society kit of an RNAD Ammunition Van on the right. 3D printed generic diesel loco to be fitted to a Kato 109 chassic - Trying out my new spray booth Mrs B got me for my birthday. Loco loosely fitted to the chassis - Colours are Tamiya acrylic Orange and Red. Completed items fitted with couplings and ready to go. Just need to complete painting the figures and build a new sector plate instead of the temporary looking lash-up that I've currently got. And yard lights. And finish the crane. KR's IanJ
  7. Well, made it to the exhibition today and spent a happy day mindlessly shunting wagons. Layout ran without trouble and quite a few favourable comments. Now have 3 weeks to get some more stock and another locomotive sorted before the 009 exhibition at Portland College. KR's IanJ
  8. Further progress - Plan was to make sure it was completed by the 009 Society Open Day at Portland College in July. This was then brought forwards when I collected Dad from his model railway clubnight last week - Someone asked how my layout was coming along, I showed them the pictures and now have a potential invite to their event at Ruddington Transport Heritage Centre this coming weekend (If they can find the space!) Buildings A and B completed, Bridge completed, Building C will be done in a couple of days.... Might not have time to complete any more stock but can always rob borrow some from Dad. IanJ
  9. Hi Mark, How is yours progressing? Currently at the 009 meeting and we've been shown the hall plan. You're next to me! KR's IanJ
  10. @Marklo Is it OK to build a Meng "WWT" 38(T)? Assuming I can find it of course... KR's IanJ
  11. Surely, in this day and age, Mike can identify as a Martian. After all, I identify as an charming, debonair, handsome sort of chap* IanJ *In reality, not so much...
  12. Hi all, Or at least those of you who venture into this part of the forum - This is my take on building the "Scalescenes" Canal Wharf boxfile layout (Also being constructed by @psdavidson) Mine is being built as a 009 gauge layout as a "Toe In The Water" for building another, larger, 009 layout afterwards....(Don't tell Mrs Bonhoff) I've also had a go at creating my own 3D print of a Hunslet 040DM locomotive, that was used by the WD in WW2 for RNAD depot work at locations such as Dean Hill - A number have made their way into preservation, one such being No.11 "Ferret" in a fictitious GWR livery at the Welshpool and Llanfair. This is where I'm at currently, as it's still very much a WIP - Intention is to exhibit alongside my Dad's quarry layout at the 009 Society's East Midlands open day at Portland College, near Mansfield on Saturday 22nd July. Open wagons are a mix of RNAD open wagons, derived from 009 Society kits or scratch built bodies on Peco chassis, the van is a generic 3D print. KR's IanJ
  13. Have used AutoCAD (Both LT and full fat) for the last 25 years but simply couldn't get on with Fusion 360. Currently using Sketchup to model various items for my railway modelling - Have modelled a Hunslet 040DM for a future 009 gauge project and am now working on a vertical boilered tram loco for my dad. I doubt it would be easy to do compound curved surfaces, but there aren't many on my subject matter. Only issue might be the output files - Sketchup 2017, which appears to be the free version, doesn't have many options, but the guy who printed the Hunslet for me was able to take the ".DAE" output and convert it into something that worked. Full Sketchup allows output to IGES and STL but you're paying for the privilege. IanJ
  14. In the region of 6' - 6'6" between rails http://igg.org.uk/rail/2-track/02track3.htm IanJ
  15. That's correct - Many decades ago, when I first started Technical Drawing lessons, the first thing that our teacher, err, taught us was when it comes to annotation that we should "Treat the reader like an idiot". Still putting far too many notes on drawings now - Possibly because I swear that the general population seem to be getting more idiotic as I get older... IanJ
  16. Does that mean that Marble Rolling Pin > Blurglecruncheon in the Top Trumps pack of hand to tentacle weaponry?
  17. My diary says 22nd July for the 009 Society day - I'm meant to be completing a boxfile layout by then to show alongside my father's quarry layout. Also developing a 3D printed diesel shunter to use on it.... Hope you get sorted. IanJ
  18. When I did mine all that time ago, I went with a mix of Citadel metallic in the end. IanJ
  19. Looking at the fact that it appears to be on 10" Rostyles, I'd hazard a guess that it's an early one and the hydrolastic has failed... IanJ
  20. Didn't make the cut as I'm still working on the summerhouse but did some more last night... IanJ
  21. Saw a very nice Rover P5 in BRG with a white roof on way into Loughborough this morning, but got properly excited a few days back when I saw an Aston Martin DB5 in silver on the A60 near Bunny. IanJ
