  1. A Dark Blue World? Never heard of it..... Ebay....
  2. Don't know it this has been posted up here before, but I just came accross this video clip with some good music, Iron Maden. Unfortunatly you have to click on the picture and then click Open, it will then download and play... Spitfire dogfight Good fun clip, I think from (the only good bit of) Pearl Harbour!
  3. Thanks for the replys so far Another question then Is there any/much difference between the FG1 and 2 cockpit? Thanks again
  4. Hi all, I'm getting drawn towards building a couple of Brithish Phantoms in 1/48. I have the Revell (I belive ex-Hasegawa) FG II, I'll build that in the Wildenrath markings out of the box, but I also want to build a Royal Navy FG I. I have found a few 'Has' kits but he RN version seems to be a whole load more expensive that the RAF FG I. Was there a big difference between the RN and RAF FG I's and if so what were they? I already have a decal set for the RN smokers so markings arn't a problem Thanks
  5. Something a little different I went away on holiday for a week and being unable to live without my daily modelling fix I took something small to do while I was away. Here’s WCM’s 1/400 Type VIIIC U-boat, U-556 The stern, (back end) rudder, prop shaft etc is made up of no less than 10 parts! The AA gun on the conning tower is made up of 4 parts Fiddly!!
  6. That looks outstanding, great build, superb paint job I normally only don WWII/post war FAA stuff but have been getting drawn towards older jets. Funny how things change. I spent two years in Wildenrath, was one of the last squaddies out as it closed in 1992, I think it was (even though it is still used for housing). I remember the last bonfire night was started with two Phantoms taking off about 100 yards away from the festivities, LOAD or what and with full afterburners disappearing away into the night, well impressive... Not long after some were scrapped and were dumped at the end of the runway in one of the blast hides. We used to go up on "driver training" (skiving) and climb all over them and a single lightning. If only I had taken an interest, I could have had the best walk rounds ever! I have just bought the Revell FGRII which I believe is the same as the Has kit. Any pointers would be welcome.

    CA Gannet..

Funny thing is I bought the wingfolds first! Came accros them on the Hannants site and thought I may as well as they will probably sell out soon!
  8. Having just finished 25 years in the British Army and having a bunch of friends out in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am absolutely fuming that this has happened again. I know that in the heat of battle accidents happen but this is still an unforgivable tragedy, 3 more British lives lost, to our own f~ing side! I know when I was on operational tours we were governed by the ‘Yellow Card’ it basically came down to ‘don’t fire unless your absolutely sure, cos if your wrong your going to jail’. We even had Army lawyers come in to give us the briefings, just to let us know how much sh!t we would be in if we did get it wrong. If you did have to engage an enemy, you had to account for every round fired! I know youtube is full of clips of thousands of rounds been loosed off in all directions but I think when you get to that stage you pretty well know that that’s the bad guy over there. I will acknowledge that this may not be totally the fault of the pilots, I’m sure (I hope) that they have to get some sort of final clearance from their ‘chain’ before engaging weapons, so there is definitely something wrong with that chain. They should all be held jointly accountable/responsible. I’m probably gonna be unpopular after this, still had to get it off my chest. Deepest condolences to the families and comrades still over there
  9. Hi all I have just bought the CA Gannet off ebay from the US: Ebay Gannet Shipping to the UK is $17 so even with the shipping it 'only' came to £31.28 bargin (not) I was going to wait like, everyone else for the Trump kit but what the heck!
  10. I fancy one of these myself, Help me out, what is the guide referenced to above? Fantasic looking build, any more pictures?
  11. Looks geat, I bet it adds colour to your 'dispay', mine are mostly greens and greys!
  12. Looks great, I only have one in the stash, maybe move it up a couple! Any drama's with the build? I have read a few horror stories, but have found in the past some of the more 'difficult' kits are more fun, I like a challange (thats why I'm married!)
  13. Thanks for the kind words from everyone. The second Avenger is based on this photo of a 711 NAS bird: The Kit it the Accurate Miniture TBM/F I, I can't remeber what paints I used, probably Tamiya Acrylics, the Decals though are from the AeroMaster Fleet Air Arm Avengers Part I. If the SEAC build go's ahead I may have to build another from that sheet.
  14. Found this while surfing, A link to a Czech Republic (I think) website You have to guess a bit but there are some good walkrounds: http://makettinfo.hu/fotok/index.htm What do you think?
  15. I took these at Bourmouth Aviation museum, may be of some use: http://www.fototime.com/inv/E2089AAEA90F32D
  16. Great pictures all round, like some of the other replies, I especially like the jumpers with the Herc in the background.. I hadn't noticed before how the Seafire tail/arrester hook combo worked. I noticed in this shot that the rudder is to the starboard but the arrester hook is still straight to the rear. Obvious really but I hadn't noticed it before. I have a couple of 15s and a 17 to build, I'll have to make sure I get that right if I move the rudder! Just wonder how many people will be checking out there Seafire 15s and 17s to make sure they have got this correct!!
  17. My top tip for canopies: Leave some clear in an open jar over night to 'thicken up' a little (the longer you leave it the thicker it gets). Use a fine brush to paint it onto the canopie like glue. Works a treat, no misting and if it runs onto clear parts its clear, if it runs onto visible parts, wipe it off, or let it dry and sand off. I also find it useful for filling any gaps in the glazing. Hope that helps
  18. I normally use matt black, out of a rattle can, dry brush with Panzer grey, then dust over with 'local ground colour' pastels, depending on the surface that the model will be sat on. Work for me
