  1. Echo the above from @Ray_W ! This is also my weapon of choice and I've got [thusfar] 12 years of reliable and trouble free use out of it. Tried others, still prefer my Iwata. Rog
  2. Was at Farnborough [can't remember what year] when four Lightnings performed a scramble takeoff ! As earth shattering an experience as the 4 Vulcan takeoff mentioned by @Mr T above, which I also remember. Sights 'n' sounds never to be repeated. Rog
  3. Hmmm, not an unreasonable size. Reckon I could find a bit of space in my rapidly diminishing display cabinet. Thanks Nick @flashlight !
  4. Now there's a subject that cries out...nay, positively shrieks......to be scaled up to 1/48.......or, at a pinch. 1/72 ! What a thoroughly attractive little aircraft of which I was unaware, so I'll be following your build, Nick @flashlight with interest. Perhaps, on completion, you will give us some idea of its size, as against a pot of paint or something. Rog
  5. Hi Nick @flashlight, you've made a great job of this "curiosity" ! and the paint job is excellent. I especially like the variations that you've achieved. Was it ever built ? Possibly. Did it function as expected ? Doubtful. As I remarked to my fellow club members when I was introducing the model after i'd built it, this was the closest I was likely to build a science fiction model ! :o} Incidentally, if you haven't googled "ekranoplans" already, there's heaps of stuff n the web that will demonstrate their modus operandi, and their difference from the set up of this vehicle. I've enjoyed following your build, thanks. Rog
  6. ......or even south, to flooded Central Vic........ Rog
  7. Looking good, Nick !! That front end reminds me of my brothers 1934 Model 40 Ford 3-Window coupe.......... Just about ready for paint..........? Rog
  8. A neat and tidy way to fix the windscreen, Nick @flashlight ! I must have been in too much of a hurry..... Despite the fight, a unique and unusual model is emerging. Too job ! Rog
  9. What a stunning model !! My half started model of the same kit is temporarily on hold as I had a major issue with the u/c legs. I dropped the model and broke them off. Not only did they break off, they broke up !! Your model has inspired my to return to mine and try to repair the damage. Rog
  10. Oh good, @flashlight, you haven't got to fitting the windscreen yet. I built this curiosity a couple of years back and wanted to warn you that the windscreen fit is ATROCIOUS ! I had to sand off the upper and lower frames and still it didn't fit. My solution, such as it was, was to fit the clear part to the front of the fuselage and sand off any remaining overhang, filling the resulting gap. The windscreen will not fit its position, unless mouldings have improved. The struggle you've experienced thus far suggests that they haven't. Regarding KK, I have in the past used it as a masking medium for small windows, carefully removing it with a new blade after painting, then replacing it to replicate clear parts. The model builds up into a definite talking point and you're making good progress with it. Good luck with the windscreen. Rog
  11. Paulownia, sometimes called powton, is a deciduous tree of Chinese origin often grown, as @Bandsaw Steve suggested above, as plantation timber. There are, or were several such plantations here in Victoria but I've heard nothing of their success as an investment, which I believe was the object, apart from the timber harvested. It's an attractive tree, we have one in the garden, deciduous and forming horse chestnut-type panicles of blue-mauve highly scented flowers, usually prior to leaf formation. It is indeed, very light and ideally suited to models such as this......said he, hastily returning to topic. Here endeth the horticulture lesson....... Rog
  12. Yet another tour de force from your bench, russ @russ c. Presentation and photography always stunning. Thanks for displaying your usual unselfishness......... Rog
  13. I think it's far more likely that the aircraft hit the bird, not t'other way round @Mark Harmsworth ! :o} Great effort of the pilot to get himself and the plane down in one piece. Rog
  14. That's it, gonna have to build another of these fascinating monstrosities. One's never enough !!!! Click !!...........Buy !!.......... Rog

    CP Air DC-8

Oh nice !! I remember watching the DC-8s in the livery of CP and others in my spotting days at LHR [when it was just known as London Airport.......} Gonna enjoy following your build Julian @zebra. Rog
  16. Just completed Arma's 1/48 version of this aircraft. What a great kit !! My first Arma Hobby kit, but it won't be my last !! Rog
  17. Brilliant ! Gonna have to try this on my next motorbike model. So much more accurate looking.
  18. Fairey Firefly drones appeared to retain all [most ?] of their normal cockpit equipment. No doubt others too. Always struck me as strange......... Rog
  19. Another vote for the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS ! Brilliant tool, still working like new after 20 years use. Rog
  20. What a lovely build, Roger @Dunny ! I especially like the "shadow" cammo on the lower wing, and the cockpit is stunning. Recently completed ICM's Sea Gladiator in the livery of 813 Sqdn HMS Eagle. ICM issue some great kits in this scale, imho ! Rog
  21. Mate of mine had an Ariel Arrow. You knew not to get behind him for fear of burnt oil suffocation. AIRFIX, ya know ya want to release this old kit.........yeah, in my dreams ! Beat me to it spotting the Leader ! Rog
  22. Very nice indeed, Julian @zebra, Chipmunks deserve dayglo 'n' silver. Good idea Airfix providing a jig for the clear parts. How did you find the fit of the engine panels over the engine ? Mine [ representing the RN Historic Flight ] gave me a bit of a fight. Memories of ATC flights out of Little Rissington and following a cadet who had thrown up and had only half cleaned it out............ Rog
