  1. rareplanes also did the twin beech (Can't remember if it's an 18 or a C-45, same difference really) in vac. It's a very pretty bird.
  2. Wow. Um, that's not a particularly easy question to answer as I think they are all build to the customers request. Combine that with the ninety-zillion boxings Fujimi have done and you could get away with just about anything. EM-6 is a '73 RS which will (probably) give you the look you are after and 03736 is a '91 964 Turbo but be warned that a 964 is a bigger car. With some hacking and slashing you should be able to get the bumpers from the RS to fit and swap interior parts to taste. Maybe you can use the Fuchs centers with the aluminium wheel rims and tires or Fujimi did a few "aftermarket" wheel and tire sets so if you can find one they may have you covered. Duck tail or not depending on what you want. Note: Part numbers are representative and not inclusive. Fujimi really did do a crap ton of Porsche models from RS, RSR, Carrera, Carrera 2, Carrera 4, turbos, slant nose...if Porsche built it they probably made a kit of it.
  3. Which car did you have in mind? The '71 cars had an extra roll bar bolted(!) in place and the Gulf cars had their own modifications to just about everything. The tails are their own special hell because the wheels kept getting wider so the cars evolved quite a bit in the few years they ran.   4. Most of the body work is different between the LH models and the K cars so...no? The L cars from '69 were converted to K models (or crashed, or renumbered or converted into spyders or....) but I don't think any of the K chassis were converted to LH. I'm not sure what differences under the skin there are but I think you could use the chassis back to the "bulkhead" where the engine meets the trans. That's a lot of wonga for the few pieces of resin and plastic you would be able to use. http://962.com/registry/917/index.htm lists all the chassis numbers and they have pics of most of the cars. It gets kinda messy.
  5. Ah Fujimi. I don't know if they had a screaming license deal with Porsche or if one of the higher ups was in love with them but they did tons of different versions. I seam to recall them being rather stingy with the variations you could build out of one box, probably to sell more units. At any rate at least a few versions were also boxed by Testors which should expand your search.

I was worried about how detailed I should get with a back story but after reading the posts John has....er....posted in his thread so far I see that the rough outline I have begun working on may prove to be insufficient. I am also amused by the inclusion of a reference thread, I may have to make use of that. Quick tease so this is not completely adversarial in nature (all in good fun, no worries). Gentleman and ladies, as you may be aware there has yet to be a kit, decent or otherwise, of the North American A-27A Broadsword. The A model (single man version, bit crap) was developed along side the B-25G by NAA in response to the disaster that was Operation Sledgehammer. Without an effective second front in France, due to the failure of Sledgehammer or North Africa, due to Operation Torch being shelved it was determined that *REDACTED*
  7. Heh, I suspect the A-10 will look something like a Mosquito but that's the easy one. The Mitch I haven't quite figured out yet. Pod engines slightly increase the odds of having your own man put holes in them which is a problem and I think the bomb bay is going to be unhappy with the wings being lower on the airframe. Oh well, time to pull a few things off of the sprue and see where they line up

  9. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who worries about things like that. I have semi-evil plans involving parts swapping between a B-25 and an A-10. Ever park one next to the other? Gives me a terrible case of the whiffs but there are, lets say, some logistical concerns involved.
  10. Honestly I think the biggest hurdle with vac is over thinking things. You have to learn how to deal with strange plastic, scratch build, scribe and a dozen other things all at once if you're going to make this perfect. There are a few very simple thoughts I try and keep in mind. If you count the same number of fingers before you start as after you have removed all the backing and not, say, nine and a half? Victory! Removing the excess from the backing looks like a pain but, but. How many times have you cursed a tool maker for putting a split line in the worst possible location ever on an injected kit? Sanding a straight line is simpler than trying to clean up landing gear. Build it like it's your first kit. Don't worry about panel lines, do a bird in flight so you aren't tempted to mess with the undercarriage, smoke the glass so you can't see the cockpit, cut out as many steps as you want and get the first model under your belt. You can always strip her back down and add detail later when you are more comfortable. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step grasshopper.

  15. Looking good Chris, your ratio of plastic vs filler is slightly alarming but that happens with conversions some times. I do have to say I'm not sure the purple on your Sun Micro will match the decals you have chosen OK I'll stop looking at the backgrounds now
