  1. Thanks Shaun. I agree about the later Marlboro sponsored teams, though I'm not too keen on the earlier white with Fluorescent Orange. I think a lot of the time that livery ruins the lines of the car lol. Ashley
  2. Ok so I've been working on this for a few months now. I haven't really posted stuff on here since the server update really. partly due to a dislike in the changes to the mobile version of the site, but mainly because I got more of a community feeling from the Modelling group I'd joined over what I got from the forum. After an initial feeling of having to rush or build quick build kits to be able to make the weekly meetings, I have since mellowed into working on a number of kits at a time and are then able to take something to each meet without having to rush. Which leads into this kit. I initially started it in order to have something to do at a meet late last year and have been slowly working my way through it. Unfortunately starting a WIP thread on here so late and of something that wasn't supposed to be a WIP means that there are some gaps in the photographical history of my build but I'll do my best to explain my way through. First off as the Title suggests I'm building a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6.5 Rally car. Or more specifically Tommi Makinen's car from the 2001 Monte Carlo rally. Now this is where those of you that know your kits will be thinking, "Hang on. Nobody makes a 6.5 edition Evo." And yes you're right. So here is what i've used to build mine. 1 Tamiya Lancer Evolution 5 kit. Bodykit sprue from the Tamiya Evolution 6 kit. ModellingMasters Evolution 6.5 Rally transkit (Bumper and rear lights) Shunko Models Evolution 6.5 Decals for the 2001 Monte Carlo, and for something a bit different. ModellingMasters Tamiya Lancer Evolution 5,6 Engine transkit. so without furher ado. Here's some pics: First off we have the bulk of the engine transkit. This actually glues to the lower half that tamiya provides in the kit. Some slight modification's are needed to the kit chassis part in order to fit it. mainly the cutting off of the location pegs for the kits half engine. Another modification thats needed when fitting the 6.5 transkit is to trim one of the front chassis corners. All this is shown in the transkit instructions. Next just some painting of detail parts. Here's we have the engine fitted to the chassis and some other parts. The only thing I think could improve this engine trasnkit would be fuel injectors on the intake manifold. That way you could add a fuel rail and feed and return pipes, something to busy the rear if the engine bay up a bit. You'll see what i mean a bit further on. Another session at Leicester Modellers had the chassis looking like this: And because I got talked into it by a club member, here is a 4 hr build club meeting's worth of plumbing. With the Chassis complete I have since turned my attention to the body. Obvisouly the bonnet needs to be cut out and a resin spare is prodived in the engine transkit, however if you're carful with the cutting you can still use the plastic one which I have. But before you cut out the bonnet i strongly recommend gluing the 6.5 bumper on first as the bonnet helps keep the wings in the right place. Another thing that I noticed was that the 6.5 has a smoothed over number plate recess. This wasn't mentioned in the 6.5 transkit though it did tell you to fill some parts of the same area. I'm pretty sure i'm right in my choice and it looks good now anyway lol. This photo was taken with the body from the Evo 6 kit to show the changes i've made. However whilst I had the body out it showed the mistake i'd made by using the Evo 5 body. See 2nd pic Yep the spoiler mounting holes are different and whilst the Evo 6 body has flashed over holes for the 5 spoiler, the 5 body doesn't feature the same for the 6 one. It was no trouble to use some masking tape for a template and transfer the holes from one body to the next, but something to think about for anyone doing the same. And the final pics show the painted body. I use Halfords Appliance white and VW Mars red for the main colour. I've read about it being a good match for Tamiya TS-49 and it is. i decided to use it instead of TS-49 because I thought it was a better representaion for Mitsubishi R71 Passion Red, the colour of the real cars that what Tamiya suggest. There's no bonnet in the pics because I found out after painting them, that you need to paint the white square for the marlboro logo as the decals wont give a full coverage. So as i didn't really fancy painting white over red, there was really no choice but to strip them to redo it. I say them because I wanted to see which one, Resin or Plastic came out better. In the end I've been reduced to using the plastic one because after the paint stripping, I was scraping the paint from the panel lines around the bonnet vents and the blade went through the resin and ruined it. So that's it for all the progress so far. I'm really impressing myself with this build and is only decals and clear away from being a perfect build. Famous last words there but as i'm taking my time with it, I feel confident in saying it lol. Thanks for looking and any questions, comments etc always welcome. TTFN Ashley.
  3. Looking forward to the pics 😁 Ashley
  4. The Living Daylights was a V8 Volante and then a Vantage. My fav bond film lol. Ashley
  5. I thought for a sec that there was a second edition lol. And then which I have and what the differences were lol. There must be a few printed with the mk1 on the cover or else there wouldn't be pics of it. A very rare edition then if it changed to a mk2 just before print lol. Ashley
  6. Hi Nick. This is the one I have. Didn't realise there were 2 versions till now lol. Ashley
  7. Very nice build. Regarding the engine. It looks like a hemi but it has the air cleaner from the wedge engine, notably the 440 magnum lol. And it should be orange not red but tbf most of the time the bonnet will be closed so no one will notice lol. Ashley
  8. It might be just me but I really. No REALLY like seeing models built by gluing tubes and stuff together like you're building the 1:1 version. It's just so satisfying. Carry on my good man. After much merriment of course Ashley
  9. Damn it, late to the party like usual. Well at least it's not really begun yet 😉 That is quite a difference in width. Is it the same for the length? It looks like comparing 1/24 to 1/25 is the reason I ask. Ashley
  10. Some nice progress there Nick. I trust you found your missing tyres OK then? I've finally found the car I'll be building my Makinen version as. Eventually... I've brought a Reji decal set for the 1969 Monte Carlo Twin Cams. And will be building BEV 782G. A bit of conversion work needs to be done to the shell as well as the Scale Production Twin Can engine I've somehow acquired 😂😂 I'll be using your build as reference when the time comes 🙂 Ashley
  11. My 956 is now firmly back in the box lol. After seeing your work of art I might just take up knitting now. You've moved the yard stick too far haha. A simply stunning build and the new benchmark. Ashley
  12. I have a couple of these in my stash. very nice kits if you ask me. And you're done a great job on it even with your decal issues. Interesting to hear about the front ride height. I thought that was only a problem for the older monogram NASCAR kits. I'll know to look out for it when I build mine. Ashley
  13. Revell US has a snapfit kit of the raptor in 1/25. Not heard of a new kit coming out but based on the subject, I'd expect it to be AMT or could possibly be Meng. Ashley
  14. Saw a Jaguar Fpace today, in the carpark of a regional car parts supplier chain of all things lol
  15. Excellent to see this back o the go. I actually searched out this build recently, having acquired a Tamiya 956 myself. Eagerly awaiting progress. Ashley
  16. Airfix must have changed the decals when they released your set as they even look different to the typical Heller type that my boxing had. Great progress. Ashley
  17. I did find this collage of pics on an old post here on Britmodeller. The colour here looks a little lighter and looks metallic too. Maybe Tamiya TS50 would be a good match? Ashley
  18. The truck isn't the same colour as the rally cars. The truck is an M reg if I remember right. So was new in 1995. That's the reason behind my thinking the colour is a shade of the Subaru colour used at the time, which is 53c. Here's a pic of the actual truck.
  19. Yes a couple of things from Renaissance would be easy to scratch yourself. I just linked everything they had haha. Be interesting to see what colour you decide to paint the truck? I'm sort of leaning towards the brighter shade of Subaru 53c used on the commemorative Road cars, rather than the darker, purplish shade used on the Rally cars. Ashley
  20. What I tend to do is just cut the decal out and use white glue to stick it in place. The backing paper give it the right scale thickness. But like I said it's only a small issue on an otherwise stunning build lol. Ashley
  21. I'll tag along too if you don't mind. I was lucky enough to go along to a Brawn sponsorship meeting in late 2009. Basically not too long before they announced the Mercedes buy out. I got to see Jenson's title winning car up close and still have the free Brawn GP lanyard adorning my keys lol. An eBay seller I follow in Australia was selling a couple Studio27 kits a few months back for 200 aussie dollars which I didn't think was too bad at the time. Ashley
  22. Wow really great results there. The only thing thats staring at me is the Rally plate on the boot. Period rally plates were pressed steel and we're pop riveted in place, so wouldn't be cut around the opening like if it was a vinyl sticker. the whole thing would open with the boot. Other than that you've build a fantastic model. I just hope I can achieve the same level when I build mine lol. Ashley
  23. No worries Nick. Oh no not another exhaust tunnel! Haha Ashley
  24. Thanks Nick. I've PM'd you. I've also been looking at that website you posted and I've also seen they do a set of 15" minilites. However those are rather basic having a brake disc moulded to the backing plate. I wonder if the ESCI/Revell wheels are supposed to be 15" as I know both 13 and 15's were used. Maybe even 14" too lol. Recently I've been thinking a lot about casting my own wheels and tyres. Specifically Hasegawa's Lancia Stratos Safari wheels as I need more sets for future projects that require the gravel wheels. Unless I can find someone who's good at casting? lol Ashley
