  1. The spares arrived today in their little brown Airfix box. With great excitement I opened it only to find a perfect clear sprue from a Boston! A quick call to the spares dept. later and the correct parts should be on their way. It just means a slightly longer wait until it's finally finished.
  2. There's a 1/24 trolley acc available. Would be interested to see people's opinions as I'm thinking of getting one for my Spitfire. Didn't think of putting the batteries in it though. http://www.scalewarship.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=83_217
  3. You'll be trying to tell me they couldn't fly next.
  4. It will be interesting to see how you deal with Topsy's feathers. Will you be scratchbuilding them or using etch? Triceratops did have feathers, didn't they?
  5. After the fun and games of my Mk 22 build I thought I'd better get back to this one before you all lose interest completely. Looking for something small and easy to stick together I came across the radiators. There was a major panic when I discovered one of the sides was missing but it had stuck itself to the inside the box with a bit of Blu Tak. I really need to be more organised. They needed a fair bit of scraping and sanding to make them fit because of the amount of paint and old glue on them but they seem ok now. The left one still needs a bit of a wash to match the other side if I can remember how I did it. The symmetrical radiators look much more aggressive for some reason and getting them on really feels like a big step forward. The only thing I would say is do they really need to be made up of 14 pieces?
  6. Is that type of drop tank accurate for a triceratops?
  7. I have this in the stash as well so I'll follow along too, if you don't mind.

  9. Have you had a look on Ebay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Airfix-Supermarine-Spitfire-Mk-VB-Wings-Upper-/171912915928?hash=item2806ceebd8:g:vhIAAOSwu4BVkabd http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Airfix-Supermarine-Spitfire-Mk-VB-Wings-Lower-/171912915929?hash=item2806ceebd9:g:kbsAAOSwT6pVkadJ http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_odkw=spitfire+1%2F24&_ssn=modelsmadeeasy&hash=item2805c4c096%3Ag%3A0RQAAOSw9N1VqBLj&item=171895472278&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xhurricane+1%2F24.TRS0&_nkw=hurricane+1%2F24&_sacat=0

  11. Here is my Airfix Spitfire F Mk.22 finished today. My build rate is painfully slow and finished kits are rare as hen's teeth so when I found myself last weekend wife and family free I thought I would see if I could get this done before they came home. In the end I failed to meet my self-imposed deadline but I still managed to complete it in less than a week. I thought the kit itself was great and any problems were of my own making. It went together really well and was built OOB with just an Eduard etch harness added. The only fly in this ointment was the poor quality of the clear sprue which was full of bubbles and neither of the canopies was useable with one of them badly short shot. The canopy is the better of the two and is temporarily fitted until a replacement arrives from Airfix. Overall, I'm happy with the results although there are several issues which prevent me from being totally satisfied but as I said, they were all of my own doing. Thanks for looking. WIP here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235000594-spitfire-f-mk-22-can-i-build-it-in-a-day-fail/
  12. I think that's done. I'll put it up in RFI. The canopy is only temporary while I wait for Airfix to send a new one but as the other one was even worse it will have to do for now. Cheers all for watching.
  13. Well, I haven't posted anything for a few days but that doesn't meant I haven't been busy. All the little bits now have been done and fitted and if you're wondering what that bit of blu tak is doing, it's holding the cannon in place while the glue dries. Still needs its final matt coat spraying and the canopy fitted. Mustn't forget the gunsight, either. Really hoping to have this finished today.
  14. Ha! The tail wheel covers turned up They are now silver.
  15. With the build almost done I have been doing a bit of weathering using a mix of well thinned black and burnt umber oils. I've tried to keep it fairly light except on the undersides where things tended to get quite dirty and some around the cowls. Sadly, no build is complete without a vist from the carpet monster and unfortunately this one is no exception. You've probably noticed the broken cannon already, well that's not it, I have it safely tucked away. No, the covers for the tail wheel have gone and I've no idea where. They may yet turn up but more frustratingly, after I repainted the propeller blade tips I noticed the decals had gone. I have managed to retrieve three of them but the other two are still MIA.
  16. The work continues. The propeller is painted and decalled but I might go over those tips again. The decalling is almost complete so I'll post some pictures shortly.
  17. I put one coat of gloss on and it although it came out ok I'm not going to do another. If I can't finish it today I have tomorrow morning but as the whole point was to get it done before everyone came home there is less of a rush now. It's almost there, though. Decals next then a bit of light weathering and final assembly.
  18. I have a bunch of Airfix Spits in the stash and none of them have problems, it's just this one. Despite the problem with the canopies I would still recommend this kit. It's gone together really easily.
