1/48 RAF Phantom FGR2 (Hasegawa)
dadgaddad replied to jer's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
I could never understand why the Phantom is considered ugly. Amazing work, well done.. -
Very nice. The more I look at the Griffon engined Spitfires the more I like them.

And there was me thinking you weren't that keen on Vulcans...

Best British WW2 air war autobiographies for a teenager
dadgaddad replied to Watcher's topic in Magazines & Books
I would recommend Carrier Pilot, too, although it makes for grim reading in places and that's before they even finish training. -
I always liked anything with a shark mouth when I was a boy. A little while ago I made an Airfix Tomahawk with my 4 year boy and he wanted it for the shark mouth. It seems that no one is immune. NIce pair of models, btw, have to say, though, hers is much better!

Another Spitfire Question - Undercarriage Bay Colours
dadgaddad replied to Richard E's topic in Aircraft WWII
I did mine silver. -
Rene, you are correct about the seats, although they weren't made of Bakelite, it was a different type of plastic. My point about the flaps is simply that if someone wants to build a Spitfire with the flaps down then he should go ahead. The picture proves that on one occasion at least, flaps were left down while the aircraft was parked.

FWIW I used Humbrol 78 on that Spitfire. Since then I've been using GW Straken Green. For the seat I used Revell 37 Matt Reddish Brown, I think it's called. Here are these colours on a Seafire XVII I'm currently working on.

It's your model, if you want to build it with the flaps down go right ahead.
-
If you are going to use all that PE and resin you might want to change the cockpit door as these Spitfires didn't have a crowbar fitted. I used one on mine and they look really good. http://www.ultracast.ca/products/48/215/default.htm

dadgaddad replied to brianthemodeller's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Not just a Spitfire but an early Spitfire, my favourite. Well done. -
Airfix 1/72 Curtiss P-40B Tomahawk 112 Sqn RAF

That's very nice. I remember building on of these as a child as I loved anything with a shark mouth and this one is a beauty. I just made one with my own son and it's a great little kit. -
Nice work, there, love the nose stripes.
-
I don't know what the others are like but you won't be sorry with the Eduard Mk IX.
-
I would put my vote in for the Eduard. I've just started mine and it is an amazing kit, plenty on BM to look at, too.
-
Hey, don't stop now, I'm watching with bated breath. Will he make it? Yes, he will, no, he won't, oh I don't know!

And two examples of the finest British engineering!

1/72 Special Hobby Sea Fury WJ232 802 SQN Built OOB but with Aeroclub metal under carriage. Airbrushed in Humbrol EDSG over Sky. Cockpit and stripes brush painted using GW and Humbrol acrylics. GW Nuln Oil wash and Humbrol Clear final coat. Nothing about this kit was easy. The wings needed hours of scraping before the edges would meet. The fuselage needed filling and rescribing. The decals fell apart and I had to buy new ones. Several times I wished I hadn't started it yet found myself thinking how I could make the next one better just as often. In the end, though, I was happy with the result. WIP here
