Of course then you won't have a time machine to go back and stop yourself so I think you might end up with a temporal paradox...

    Cod-Physics here:
Since time won't allow for paradoxes, any attempt you make to change your present (or future?) will be foiled by Physics/Time! Otherwise you'll disappear up your own time vortex! :)

  2. Hi Jeroen,

Yes that's what I meant. The one I got up close and personal to was in Uganda in the late 80s. Tis a big bugger, up that close!

Yours looks like it has Disc Brakes. I'm sure (though memory may well have failed me) that the one I saw had Drum brakes.

The Unimog has always been one of my favourite trucks. I'll have to try and get one of these kits.

    Cheers,

    Alan..

  3. Hi Jeroen,
If I recall, the Unimog had Transfer cases built into the hubs, presumably to lower the gearing further,
This also meant that there was more ground clearance due to the vertical nature of the transfer case.

    Does this kit replicate that?

P.S. Great build, by the way!

    Cheers,

    Alan.

  4. Fujimi decals seem to vary.

I remember that the decals for the "Enthusiast" models were easy to apply and responded well to MicroSol/MicroSet.
However, their other kits (Koenig BiTurbo - see my avatar), they were more like celluloid film-stock and no amount of softener worked!

    Just my penn'th

    Cheers,

    Alan.

  5. Yesterday, while out on a family trip out:

A silver Lancia Fulvia, bonnet up unfortunately, otherwise immaculate,

A rather tidy chrome bumper MGB with hard top on,

    A dark green (E-reg, I think) 911,

An A-Reg (post-fix) Mini in silver with extended wheel-arches),

and last, but not least, a Volvo 'Amazon' in red with, of all things a prancing horse in the wings. It has minilite alloys as far as I could tell.

Sorry, no pictures, forgot to get my phone out...

    Cheers,

    Alan.

Whilst we were there the lifeboat brought in a load of migrants and their dingey and got a wicked video of it beaching itself to come ashore driving up the beach at speed, awesome machine, I don't know how to show here and don't know if the link will work

That self beaching boat was most likely the new RNLI "Shannon" class lifeboat.

They are designed to be launched from a beach on a trailer, and frequently this is how the beach.

They are a "Jet" boat and have no external propeller, which means that they can work in extremely shallow water.

If I recall, they are powered y two Scania turbo-diesels of some 11 - 14 litre capacity.

The only reason I know this is:

    a) I worked for the company that supplied the on-board monitoring and control software (Electronic dash-boards etc.)

    b) Dungeness is where one of the craft have been deployed. One of the first, I believe.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

Do you have a favourite site to but PE brake discs?

I usually go to HiroBoy (www.hiroboy.com) when I am looking for photo-etch.

As I said before, not all model kits are catered for, and I suspect that the Virago isn't on the list. I may be wrong.

Just head over to HiroBoy and take a look...

    Cheers,

    Alan.

  8. Hi Frank,

Superb model. I've always fancied getting this kit, but never got around to it.

Modelling disc brakes so that they look 'real' is an absolute pain. They are neither matt, satin  or chrome! After-market steel PE is about the best that I have found, but not available for all models.

Just a suggestion, maybe putting a grey/brown wash on the 'hub' of the discs, may make them 'pop' a bit better. (Crud usually accumulates there during the life of the bike. I know, I have had several over the years !)

    Keep up the good work!

    Cheers, Alan.

  9. Around here in north Bristol, there is a guy who has a working (!) DeLorean. Now, in addition to the DeLorean, he now has a 67/68 Reliant Scimitar Coupe (It's a G plate), in a bronzy/gold colour sitting on his front lawn. Looks a lot ratty! Obviously a restoration job waiting to happen.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

I was in Gravesend at the Gammar School so we only had one chance to visit the Tech College to see the computer

I was at Sir Joseph Williamsons Mathematical School (a fancy name for a normal Grammar School), which was only a mile or two from the tech college. That's why we could visit it on a Friday Afternoon.

    Cheers, Alan.
