That looks great, especially the wood effect on the propeller. Is this the Dr.1 that is in red plastic and also sold in an eduard box by any chance?

The Battle of Cambrai was not the first time tanks were used on the battlefield, but it was the first time that they were used in battle tactically (in much a similar way they are used now). My great grandfather was killed in the battle of Cambrai (not in a tank) and his name is on the Louvral memorial.

Maybe they are there to quell an uprising caused by the supermarkets running out of quinoa.

Just to add. It's only the enamels that are back in the UK. From what I have seen, the acrylics are still made in China

If you look on their category bar on the left hand side it shows an option for 1/400 ships there 4 sets in there. http://www.tomsmodelworks.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_33&products_id=121 http://www.tomsmodelworks.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_33&products_id=129 http://www.tomsmodelworks.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_33&products_id=130 http://www.tomsmodelworks.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_33&products_id=131

The normal car/van this is based on is ok, a bit bland but unoffensive. Trying to turn the front of it so it looks like a London Taxi has seriously turned it into something that fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. There is no style and it looks mess.

If you can find an equivelant car colour it's another vote for Halfords. I used them for the Airfix Shaun the Sheep Land Rover set and you have a choice of aerosol or hairy stick in a bottle. Personally, having gone for the bottle option I would choose the aerosol as the paint is too thick to nicely brush paint.

Classic kits is just the name they give to the sets without glue or paint. Then there are starter sets with brush, glue and paint which tend to be easy builds, and gift sets again with glue brush and pain for the more complex or multiple kit sets. With the Spitfire Vb, I suppose the 33 year old original tool is either worn out, damaged, or just considered no longer up for the job with todays offerings.

Are there any 1/72 decals for Jaguar XX109 'Desert Cats' nose art
Roo replied to David Womby's topic in Aircraft Modern
I'm not sure if it is the right size to go straight on, but the 1/32 Airfix Jaguar XKR GT3 had jaguar cars decals for the sides. EDIT - It's only partial. You could just get one from google images and ask one of the small custom decal peeps to make some up for you. -
Airfix 1/72 Dambuster Tornado Limited Edition kit
Roo replied to Richard M's topic in Aircraft Modern
I did not recieve the notification email, but I ordered as soon as I read it was avaliable on the ATF. Hopefully it will turn up today, and also for everyone that seems to have missed out that they have not actually sold out of them and just a restock of the shelves needed. -
Halfords is a car parts chain, not a model brand. Any car paint supplier near you will be able to offer something similar. The main part with the primer is that it is suitable for spraying on plastic (but it is not essential with models as they will not flex unlike bumpers/fenders).

That is definitely the new boxing. I have built 4 versions of the new gnat, 2 of which were in that red arrows box.

It depends on the rating on the US power supply. A lot of modern electrics have power supplies that will work with both 110v and 230v power supplies, so I'd check the rating on the box before making a decision. If the rating is for 110v only, you will need a voltage transformer to convert the 230v down to 110v as you could end up damaging the equipment if the plug is unfused. The best way to make sure would be to simply head for a local electronics shop or online and see how much 230v to 110v transformers cost. That way you are at least prepared for any extra cost of the transformer if one is needed for when you get back.

I went past the Thurrock Lakeside store today, and the kits are also 30% off there now. There is not much choice with a plethora of the Klingon battle cruisers at a greater discount.
-
I've built both the club XVIe and the standard edition IX / XVIe kits and yes they are the same tooling with more or less the same instructions barring the shape of the fuselage and the cockpit shape.
-
I was there on thusday. It shuts next week and there was still a decent selection of both Revell and Humbrol paints and also of kits. There were a few Klingon battle cruisers and a varied selection of other subjects. The only thing that caught my eye was the 1/16 Revell Rolls Royce Phantom for £18. All kits at Stratford are now 30% off, and they still had a few Airfix 1/48 Merlins and 1/12 Bentleys on the shelves if anyone is interested.

The MZ in Westfield Stratford closes next thrusday.

The Airfix 1/24 Mossie was first looked into in the 1970's IIRC, but cash and technology only really caught up a few years ago to make it viable (even if it was £130)
-
First I've heard of it as a reason. They are re-releasing it later this year with a different decal set as it's in the catalogue as a new release for this year.
-
Stuff like the platicard, metal tubes, balsawood are all 50%. The only stuff not reduced are Scalextric and Hornby as they are sold on a concession basis rather than as stock owned by modelzone.

the Airfix Spit IXc/XVIe kit has poor fit issues all over the place. I found that a small seperate section of the wing ailerons will not fit whatsoever after you have fitted the internal brace, it's easier to leave them off. The top half of the wings don't line up properly and have to be trimmed and the wings do not line up to the fuselage very well. The kit is only designed to be built wheels down. Wheels up is possible, and not too much effort, but it involves filler as the wheel strut shrouds are too short. The fuselage really needs clamping or very tight with tape as the 4 I have recently built, all the fuselage sides are bent at the front. These are just the ones off of the top of my head, from my experience. I am sure others will say more.

I think you may be out of luck. At a push, they may let you exchange it, but I severely doubt a refund will be granted.

I went into the Lakeside branch a little while ago today, and the prices have slightly changed. It is now 20-50% off, with Hornby and Scalextric still excluded. Because plastic kits are possibly the only thing that is selling, they have kept those at 20%, as are the die cast models and radio controlled stuff. Paints, glues and sundries are now at 50%. There are still a fair few models left with the grates choice in small figures and Armoured vehicles. The planes are rapidly selling, with Airfix a lot smaller than before. There is a lot of revell gear, but a fair bit of both companies goods are multiples of the same boxing. There is also still Hasegawa and Academy stuff too.
-
There is still more than enough in the Stratford Westfield store, so I guess the Lakeside store would be similar. I guess it depends on what you like building really. As I like a bit of everything, I was more that well catered for at Stratford, just the Airfix Fiesta and the rust Airfix weathering powder escaped my grasp.

I have just got around to placing the decals on the Israeli spit, and so I have a small piece of advice. for the red line rudder decals, it woul be easier to place them before either the rudder itself or the tailplanes are attached to the fuselage, as they are a complete pig to place with it all in place. Another option would be to use the decals to cut a template in masking tape and paint them. I found all this out too late and ended up having to do it by hand.
