Hi guys. I've spotted on the Model Alliance website a conversion for the Hasegawa 1/48 Sea King to make an HAS.3 version. Does anyone know what one of these looks like as I can only find references to either HAR.3 or HAS.1/2/5/6 etc??
Any help much appreciated.

Oeerrr!!
I have one of these in the pile - might have to stay there a while looking at the size of it. It's a ruddy whopper!!
-
Now I really want one!!
-
Now that looks seriously nice!

It's great to see someone turn the Airfix Sunderland into a fine model. I know it's a "beast" to build and paint up.
Top work. I wish someone would bring out an updated Sunderland.

MPM Sunderland Mk V due this summer. Start saving now!!

Aaarrrrgggghhhh!!!
Just when I think I can save a few pennies you come up with more stuff I've just gotta have!!!!

I was musing over adding a 1/72 Airfix Scout with Airwaves conversion set for a Wasp HAS.1 to my ever increasing 'to do' pile. A quick search showed the old kit still fairly easily obtainable and I thought that the conversion might pop up on Ebay (sorry is that Evilbay) at a similarly modest price.
Not so - I nearly fell off my chair when a Google search shoed one sold in Dec 2009 for £92 plus postage.
I think a pleading Email to Hannants for a re-introduction might be coming very soon!

I've not even looked at building ships since I sank an Airfix Bismark in the bath many, many moons ago but I'd certainly put my name down for one!
Oh and whilst we're begging how about an update of the venerable 1/600 WWII variety Ark? Now that in 1/350 is one I would LOVE to see.

Hi Ali
Firstly thanks for asking what folk are interested in. I'm sure many of us have ancient kits hidden away waiting for that small piece or conversion set to be released.
I personally like the look of your new Canberra releases and will be ordering soon. If they're anywhere near the quality of your Nimrod and Meteor drone sets they'll be well received. I especially like the fact that most of the sets are supplied with suitable decals, leaving the modeller to purchase nothing more than the base kit. Add the fact that these sets appear to be quite straightforward to use and result in models of aircraft that are unlikely to be released by the 'mainstream', but remain of interest to the modelling fraternity, I feel you are on to a winner.
My suggestions would centre on more of the same really, with aircraft such as the Sea Fury T.20 crying out to be represented. The Trumpeter kits would be a sound base (although potentially expensive). Also how about more drones - RN ones in particular? Firefly U Mk 8/9 if only someone would release a suitable kit? Canberra U Mk14 possibly? Or how about a Meteor TT.20?
Finally how about looking at some of those kits that we're all putting off because of poor parts fit? The one that immedately springs to mind is Valom's rendition of the HP Hampden. I bought 2 as soon as they were released & having seen modellers far, far more skilled that I will ever be struggle with the kit transparencies and revert to using those from the ancient Airfix kit to get a decent look, I am put off for life! Or maybe a canopy for Hasegawa's Lancaster - with the escape hatch in the correct place?
I'll probably think of a hundred more but I hope there's some useful suggestions?

Tony that looks fantastic! Can I ask where the decals for the Sharks scheme came from?
-
Odd that a magazine got hold of samples for review if they're unavailable?
-
Thanks Chaps
I've dropped an E-Mail to the Barracuda Decals address. Let's see what happens!

Hi All
I spotted the Sea Fury updates from Cooper Details in this month's SAM and have tried to contact them on the E-Mail address listed. It's bounced back and I've been unable to find any other contact info for them.
Wondered if anyone had some info??

And what's the matter with the 1/48th FAA Models resin 100 Gallon Wing Tanks?

Regards
V.P.
Must be a bit of a cabbage because I thought that baggage pods would be different to fuel tanks. I've had a look in my Ad Hoc Gannet book and to my untrained eye it appears that the COD 4 underwing pod is very similar to a Saunders-Roe rotary dispenser fitted to the A/S variants?
Interestingly(??) the AEW3 appeared to use a totally different style of underwing tank - possibly from a Hunter.

Hi Derek
Looks great. Are there any plans to scale it up to 1/48 for the CA kits?
-
Thanks for all the info chaps! It'll give me something to plan (but not necessarily ever find time to do) during the dark nights ahead!

Been thinking about this Mk.V conversion business and was wondering if the engines/cowls/exhausts from the Academy B-17 series would be a good start for a conversion?
In my head I thought that the engines could be used as above & the lifeboat from the SB-17.....
http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=AC2165
could go under a hasegawa/revell lancaster to make an air sea rescue ASR.3

There's a guy here.....
http://biomicro.sdstate.edu/pederses/ShawEW.html
who's done the conversion using the falcon set.
-
Cheers for that daz.
I've since found a few links to some finished Otaki kits - they seem ok with some work.

Hi All
I stumbled across (well ok - bought!) a new-to-me kit this afternoon. It's an Airfix 1/48 Hellcat, 05108 appears several times on the box.
Interestingly the moulds have some Japanese script on them which has made me wonder if they're a Hasegawa tooling re-boxed??
I'd be grateful if anyone out there has an answer!!

Hi All
Just a quick heads-up to those of you who have an Eduard Fulmar on order or are thinking of buying one. I have one ordered from Alistair at AtoZee who tells me that all of his stock have been delivered sans canopy. "Saves all that masking" I hear you shout!!
Alistair's checked with his supplier and it appears that all of his shipment has been affected too.

Despite supporting my local model shop as much as poss I do try to bag the odd bargain on ebay. Not any more it seems : I was watching a 1/48 Blackburn Firebrand which went yesterday for £51. Hannants list the same kit for £41.85!!
Similar thing happened with a sea mosquito conversion set.
Seems that some of us are slightly more bonkers than we thought!!!!
-
Wow - I hadn't realised there was so much to learn about these things! I'll be happy if I can get the model looking something like a rough imitation. Oz's finished model looks absolutely stunning!

Hi Bob
Saw a couple of pictures in a book called Fly Navy, about FAA aircraft since 1945 and thought it looked like an interesting aircraft. Certainly different with the turret removed!
