  1. Unfortunately, I don't think you can build the Mk.I as the DAP kit doesn't have the resin Taurus engines or sprue "C" which has the correct diameter cowlings and nacelles for the Taurus engine.

You could, however, build a Mk.II since it used the P&W engines just like the DAP Mk.VIII. The proper cowlings for the P&W engines are on sprue "D." And as you pointed out, the correct turret fairing and tail/rudder for the earlier marks are included in the DAP kit. The rest of what you need seems to be there as well.

If you can find Special Hobby kit 72083 Beaufort Mk.Ia/II, it has both of the different style engines, cowlings and nacelles. The Taurus engines were used in the Ia and the P&W engines for the Mk.II.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Thanks for the information Bill. I'm now scouring the internet for a Mk.I!

  2. Lovely start Bill.

Do you or any wiser modeller than me (that's all of you!) know if this kit could be build as an earlier RAF type. Possibly a Mk.I or II? These kits seem as rare as hen's teeth whereas Australian variant can be found at least occasionally. I'm hoping that as you've had to swap the fin & alter the fuselage, all the original parts are still in the box.

  3. Sorry to bring to life an old debate, but there's a brilliant book about flying that has a major section on flying the Beaver from the Radfan. It's called 'Think Like A Bird' by Alex Kimbell. In my opinion it ranks alongside Geoffrey Wellum's autobiography as one of the very best pieces of literature on flying.

In it the author does a great job of describing how he flew on & off HMS Albion which you may find interesting, plus there are good, clear photographs of his landing approach.

It's fired to me have a go at the old Airfix kit of the Beaver, but they seem to be nigh-on extinct!!

  4. I can't remember the exact cost to go with the 0.3mm mod but it was worth it. I haven't bothered going back to the 0.5 at all for 1/72nd stuff. I will bung it back up for the 1/24th and 1/32 Spits though.

    Rick.

Hi Rick, the parts are listed on Airbrushes.com at £40.84 for the 0.3mm set. I'll have to save up!

  5. I've also got a CR & building 1/72 aircraft I find the 0.5 mm nozzle too large for all but large areas. I'm planning on getting a 0.3 mm set up but as Rick says it's an expensive way to go....... Fortunately I picked up the CR airbrush & mini jet compressor (both new) for £90 through a local advert!
