My belated entry to the group build is a 1/72 Academy PBY-5, which I intend to finish as an RAF/RCAF Catalina/Canso. I've not decided on which aircraft as yet, but am working through the Aviaeology decal sets to find a favourite - presently W8427/QL-G looks likely. Due to work pressure and family/festive commitments I've only just dug out the box so it's highly likely that I'll not meet the deadline, but here goes anyway! I have a couple of the same, larger ones & have found them invaluable for holding everything for one job together. Plus you can remove the drawer and use it like a tool box, finish whatever you're working on & pop it back into the unit. Edge

Great story and a model to match. Great stuff.

Just wow!

Absolutely superb!

Great collection of models!

Fantastically eclectic build catalogue Tony, and always with a background story when you post the builds. Can't pick a favourite, but the Matchbox Lysander deserves a mention, as do the Tempests, Liberators, ah hell, they're all bloody marvellous! Hoping you have a great year in 2019. Edge

Welcome Tom. Some cracking builds there!

Eduard instructions for their Scarff ring. The gun is a combination of etch and DIY, although the builder here may have taken a different route. https://www.eduard.com/store/out/media/72333.pdf Edge

Have to agree. Warwick is, unfortunately very theme park and costs about the same. Nearby is Kenilworth, slightly more delapidated but I feel much better for it. Stratford Upon Avon is nearby as is the Corswolds and good road network to just about anywhere, inc Telfiord. Edge

What a lovely build and a great story to boot. I was lucky enough to meet John Moffat several times - he was a friend of a friend. A larger than life character even late in life! Edge -

I'm planning to join with an Academy PBY-5 built as an RCAF aircraft using some of the new Aviaeology decals. Pics to follow Edge -
Still fighting this one. Having given up on masking the canopies myself, I ordered a set of Eduard's. Frankly the fit is better than my attempts, but still less than perfect: RIMG0893 by edge957, on Flickr RIMG0892 by edge957, on Flickr Anyhow, it'll have to do, I really want this thing finished!

Guess who bought a Transport Wings Comet 4C and the RAF decal sheet this year? Talk about taking one for the team!!

I'd certainly be up for 3 of these Edge -
I've been plodding along slowly with this, but the kit seems to fight me all the way! So far I've painted & weathered the Brassin exhausts RIMG0874 by edge957, on Flickr Fiddled with both landing lights using some scratch, lenses from Modelling Tools and some etch from Griffon. Looks OK to the naked eye, but macro shows the off-centre etch as well as the black paint chipped off! The kit lens covers now won't fit so I've removed a small amount of plastic from the edges of the apperture so I can try to apply some clear tape after painting. That should be fun! RIMG0872 by edge957, on Flickr Still playing with the radiator area, with the exhaust flap positioned open I have passed some 0.5mm plastic rod through to locate in the recesses which I previously dotted some black paint to simulate the holes that are there and which the rods pass through on the real aircraft. In hindsight 0.5mm may be a little thick. RIMG0871 by edge957, on Flickr The last of my struggles so far has been with masking the canopy, something I have never really mastered. I applied Tamiya tape, burnished with a pointy cocktail stick and trimmed the edges using a new #11 Swann Morton blade. Yet the masking appears to be missapen. I tried several of the 'panes' more than once, always with similar results. Is it me or could there be something in the way that the part is tooled that means the frame is not a neat edge? Anyhow I've orderd a set of canopy masks to see if that improves things! RIMG0876 by edge957, on Flickr RIMG0877 by edge957, on Flickr I'd like to get this beast finished and off my desk because I'm joining the Maritime Patrol GB which starts on Dec 1st. Wish me luck!! Lovely job Nigel. Can I ask which paint you used for the airframe & wings? Edge
