  1. Probably true as I bit the bullet & added a Magna VC-10 to the loft insulation just last month! I was hopeful the the reference to Heavy Lift (I think the capitals were included in the Facebook post) meant this would be a Belfast. Heavy Lift being the company that bought 5 (of the 10 built) from the RAF and flew them until the early 90s I think. Interestingly they were used to transport bulky kit in both the Falklands and Gulf operations. Edge
  2. Magna Models did an AS.7 and U.8 in 1/72. Could an AS.6 be conjured from the SpecIal Hobby Mk.IV/V kit? Edge
  3. I wish Special Hobby would downscale this to 1/72? Pretty please? Edge
  4. I tried a few months ago & was told they have no plans to re-release, but no harm in asking again. Edge
  5. Air Graphics do a set: https://air-graphics.co.uk/shop?keywords=JP2&olsPage=products%2Fac-030-jp233-runway-denial-weapon-pods No link or association with them save having purchased a few bits. Edge
  6. Blimey this thing is taking some taming. Great work beating into (Whitley) shape. Edge
  7. Lovely plastic wrangling Ced. I have one of these (a mk.VII Ithink) buried away. I think it can stay buried based on this! Odd isn't it how the past sometimes touches you. I'm sat at home just a handful of miles from Northcote, indeed it's just off one of my cycling routes. I'll keep these brave boys in mind next time I pass. Edge
  8. Hi Edward good to have you back. As per Will's post, tack cloths are what auto painters here in the UK use when prepping for paint. They're essentially a cloth soaked in a sticky substance that pulls the dust etc from the surface. I used one on my stalled Hurricane & had no trouble from dust or stray dog hair. Edge
  9. Apologies for the duff info regarding Infinity, and such a shame another shop has gone. I checked online for their website which also looks to have gone - he used to do quite a bit of mail order. I know what you mean about TET - it's quite a change from tube glue! Good luck with the paint spraying! Edge
  10. Hi & welcome Kaity! I'd definitely recommend a visit to Affinity Models. Chock full of kits, paints, tools etc and I found the owner friendly, knowledgeable and best of all helpful. I only managed to call in a few times when I used to visit Stoke on business but I was so impressed that I planned meetings to avoid Thursdays! My son is getting into building models and I've started him on Revell Contacta glue (gives more wriggle time than he hotter types) and Tamiya acrylic paints. Tamiya Extra Thin glue (TET) is great too - just hold the parts you want glued together, touch them with a spot of the glue, using the small brush in the cap & watch capillary action flow the glue along the seam. Happy modelling! Edge
  11. Thanks Ced! May go with the skin pins as I'm not sure how much use I'd get from the stand, but having something (the pin) to hold whilst working on small scale kits will be a big help! Edge
  12. Hi Ced. Cracking way to hold your Spit. Could you explain what the Sphere-stand pins are & maybe where to find them? Thanks Edge
  13. Enjoying some great model engineering as my Uncle Bill would have called it! Edge
  14. I have recently done the same and it would appear that the rear end is a dog's breakfast with no simple fix. I was hoping that our friends at Alley Cat or Freightdog might be persuaded to come up with a correction set, but that may be a wish too far! I've also spotted that Print Scale (I think) have recently released several sets of decals for various marks of Javelin - do they know something we don't?? Edge
  15. Think this was Special Hobby but stand to be corrected! Edge
  16. Wonderful job as always. I imagine the pilot was in for a surprise as the nose wheel retracted..... Edge
  17. I now have a image in my head of a herd of disgruntled teenagers roaming the grasslands searching fruitlessly for Internet access (daughter's group even had to leave SIM cards behind). Good call on the extraneous 'e' too. Nothing guarantees overpriced than something labelled olde worlde!
  18. It really does sound like you're going through the mill Edward! But as other senior friends have said, things will get better. Kids grow up, I have 2, 16 year old girl & 10 year old boy who couldn't be more different to each other if they tried. Daughter flew to Botswana yesterday on a 4 week trip organised through school and after months of planning, packing and fundraising, all with a confident 'don't need your help' attitude we got proper 'going to miss you so much' hugs & tears before she left. Parenting is tough and those jewels of reward come rarely so hang on to them when they do. I'm not sure if I'm visiting Telford this year (still never been despite years planning to) but I wish you and the team well in your efforts to drain the local hosteleries of real ale & pusser's rum! Lovely work on the Lanc too. All the best Edge
  19. Thoroughly enjoying this thread and am learning an awful lot about the subject. I was fortunate to meet John Moffatt on several occasions as he was a friend of a friend - they both flew from Perth at the time. It never felt appropriate to ask much of John but boy I wish I had. Having grown up hero worshipping our soldiers, sailors and airmen of WWII, to meet a real life, and at that time little known one, was a real moment to remember. Much to John's chargrin my friend had him sign a copy of his book as a wedding present to me. Looking forward to watching this build progress and to plenty more interesting facts that are doing so much to bring this thread to life. Edge
  20. Hi on my current Hurricane I pressed the beading tool into the plastic (the soft Airfix variety) and twisted in an attempt to even out the pressure and therefore the depth of the resultant indentation. Not too much pressure though, or the plastic will distort - remember you're creating an indentation & not cutting plastic. Finish off the fastener with a well positioned stab from a sharp needle. It may take a little practice to get your eye in so maybe practice on an old kit or spare part? Edge
  21. After months of inactivity I've managed to find a little modelling mojo for the 2nd day in succession..... Not a huge amount to report. I mixed a lighter shade of RAF Sky by adding some Tamiya X-2 white to my usual Xtracrylix RAF Sky (they don't really mix too well) and sprayed random panels in an attempt to break up the monotone covering. It's barely visible so I may add more later. Next I decided to play with the control surfaces by masking off the visible ribs and spraying the 'saggy' fabric sections with Tamiya Smoke. I did the ailerons first in what now looks to be a rather heavy handed attempt. Next I tried the same with the elevators and was a little more successful at achieving something subtle. I think I'll try some more lightening and swish the airbrush lightly over the ailerons to try to tone down the starved horse look. TTFN Edge
  22. After months of inactivity on the modelling front due to work commitments but, if I am brutally honest, a lack of mojo and excess of procrastination, I've done a little on the stalled Hurricane. Not huge amounts, but at least there's a little colour on there now! Having tried pre-shading on an earlier build (Airfix Spitfite XII) and liking the result I considered going down that route again, however that process doesn't work so well with such dark camouflage colours unless one is extremely good with an airbrush - which I am not! So I am going to try post shading, once I've read up on methods, mixing colours etc. So for now just a couple of iPhone pics of her on my new stand. The flash has bleached the Xtracrylix Sky so it looks much greyer (almost primer) when in reality it has a fairly even coat. Next on the plan is to apply a lightened version of Sky to the control surfaces and investigate ways of breaking up that uniformity. More soon - hopefully! Edge
  23. Jan thank you for the speedy answer & the good news! I'll save up my pocket money ready for the release! Edge
