  1. I too, am surprised it's being phased out. To me it's new, but I've reached a certain age. But if anything the Ukraine war has taught us, it's that the drones have arrived, not in the way we anticipated. From one on one combat to very long range AA missiles. Perhaps Sandys, is being vindicated? 🤔
  2. It seems he hasn't grasped the concept of the racing line.😃 I can't sneer, back in eighties I went to Brands Hatch for 20 laps on a racing school Honda VF400. Not only did I go straight on at Druids twice. I also took to the grass no less than three times at Surtees. The VF400 is not a motocross bike.🤣 I didn't fall off though, I saved that moment for the ride back to London when I braked on a patch of oil while at about 10mph in heavy traffic. 🥴
  3. They look like VOR antennae to me. VHF Omni Directional Range. They seem to be the old style, more modern antennae are much thinner. Edit: I should add that it could also be used as part of the ILS (Instrument landing system). The localiser, which indicates whether you're left or right of the runway centreline on approach. It could be either or both. Probably both in this case. I note Jerry beat me to the punch.🙂
  4. I agree to some degree with society in general but when it comes to aviation the danger is real. Working around aircraft is dangerous. I speak as someone with a lifetime working and playing around aeroplanes. Jet engines have caught people out and still do. Walking in front or behind one while it's operating can be fatal. Remember not everyone working at airports are all that familiar with the dangers because, often they're low paid entry level jobs. Aviation is a strange new world for them. They get training but on a busy and very noisy ramp it's easy to make a mistake. Even I who know better once walked directly towards a spinning propellor. I stopped but I still shiver thinking about it. It's not stupidity, after a long day towards the end of a shift, with a bit of complacency, mistakes happen.
  5. Well the kit arrived this morning, kudos to modelvit all the way from Bulgaria. Yes it needs old school work. But I've being doing this since 1970. So no excuses. I was pleased to see a five bladed. prop as I'll being doing an Irish Air Corps version. No decals yet, but Max might provide. I note the Air Corps have followed the US example and have avoided national markings except the national flag. This makes sense because of the role of these aeroplanes. Lots of sensors. But could be anywhere in the world. Probably the same colour. Gunship Grey/Gray. What's the FS?
  6. My pen failed halfway through. So I'll try again tomorrow with the possibility of my cheating. Despite my honourable personality.🤔
  7. Completely off topic, Joe @maxdecal but thanks for the link. I hadn't realised how many photos have been uploaded to the archives. A quick look and there's the original well known photos of not just Vespas but of the well known Hurricane 93 and the trio of Hurricanes IIs. But from the original negative. The clarity is a great deal better than anything I've seen published. Not only that there's a 'new' photo of the formation taken from a bit further out though. So that brings the grand total of three photos of Air Corps Hurricane IIs. It's hard to believe only three photos exist? Anyway back on topic. Maybe someone could design a 3D printer plan for the Vespa which you could print yourself? It's a thought.
  8. Great stuff. Order on the way.
  9. Very nice, I always liked the UHU. But I imagine I picked up the box somewhere, probably Paddy Barretts on Mary Street, saw the complexity of the kit and camo scheme and bought another Spitfire.😀 Frog made some great subjects.
  10. Very nice I don't have the kit but I'd like one, like @CH-53DI'd build it in Irish Air Corps colours. They're a regular sight over my house and generally their role is also ISTAR with a similar camo scheme. They make a very distinctive sound. One is partially painted in a special WW2 scheme. It looks pretty cool.
  11. Excellent work. I have one of those in progress. Stalled until I finish a tank of all things. Glad to see you used the kit's codes. I think they look well.
  12. Excellent, I've no criticism of the model but some of the photos are distorted. I assume you used a phone? You can change the settings. Otherwise a brilliant job.
  13. Glad you bothered to bother us. I love the realism of the build and the photos. That's a standard I'd like to emulate. Excellent
  14. That's good news. I had the pleasure of seeing it in action at Oshkhosh 2016. Very impressive machine. Even then you had a sense that you're we seeing history.
  15. What's wrong with you people? It's obviously the F11 Tiger. It looks exactly like the jets I'd draw in the margins of my copybooks in school. Honourable mentions go to the F16 and F86. Glad no one mentioned the F4. One American commentator said that it was so ugly it could have been British. 🤣
  16. Surely by default all Gloster Gladiators are pre war?
  17. The Ercoupe is always interesting. What model do you have? Rudder pedals?
  18. Very nice indeed and I too have a soft spot for the type. At least the civilian 337 version. A friend of mine flew one and lost an engine on take off. He just landed thanks to the push pull layout. Twins at the time had a dangerous reputation. There was a period during take off when losing an engine meant loss of control and an inevitable crash. The 337 solved that problem, somewhat. There was a joke that in a single you crashed immediately after an engine failure, in a twin, you flew to an airport and crashed there. Cessna partially solved that problem.
  19. Nice builds, this time last year I was working at an airport and got a little excited when a Ryanair Max arrived. I chatted to the pilots about the differences but the they never mentioned the nose wheel. I loved the new aeroplane smell about the Max. Quite literally they were just delivered. People think airliners are boring but try standing on the ramp watching it taxy in and tell me they're boring.
  20. Wow, as a Corsair fanatique. That's tres beau.
  21. What's not to like? Everytime someone posts a Jug. I wonder why I haven't built one in ages. Particularly one as brilliantly made as that.
  22. I sort of knew someone would fall into that trap. 🤣 i kind of alluded to it by mentioning the chart which is an obvious modern CAA version. Interestingly I noted that the RAF memorial flight Spitfire crowbar is aluminium. But they are military, so different rules. Superfan or groupie, you're both. Brilliant work. I find RW382's history fascinating starting off as low back MkXVI and now an IX. I wonder if Airfix has an MkXVI in mind for a future release?
