  1. If they had done it in 1/32 instead it could have been an interesting companion to the old B' type bus
  2. I haven't built something with a corrugated surface for a long time so I was drawn to the shelf of shame. There were a Junkers G24 from VEB Plasticart. and also the Revell issue of the G24. As the pic of the new fin is dated 2005 the build is long overdue. The Plasticart kit was going to be one of the early planes with the original position of the wing engines and wheels. While the Revell kit would have the modified engine installations with the engines mounted further away from the fuselage. This one was going to have floats The early planes suffered from vibrations. As I understand it the airflow from the front engine interfered with the engines on the wings. The solution was to add a piece between the fuselage and the engine. I had parts from the single engine F24 conversion left so I tried to use parts of it to move the engines. Now many years later I had a look of it and wasn't happy with the result so I decided to try another approach. I had been given another Revell kit and removed a small part of the wing. Then I cut the wings already on the plane just outside the joint with the "band" covering it. But I had to massacre the old wings to remove the engines. There is another problem with the kit that has bothered me but without an easy fix. I was prepared to ignore it but then got an idea. The problem is the roof line as it continues in a straight line to the rear. This makes the tail planes sitting to high. This is how it came out building it straight out of the box. I cut the rear part of the roof loose and tried to sand it down at the rear to make it slope backward but it was hard to do, so some of the front got sanded down too. But with some filler it will work (I hope). I also moved the stabiliser down so it isn't placed above the roof. Now I need to do the same on the other kit. Strange, I suddenly want to restart on a Ju52 that I started on in 2006.
  3. Reifra also released a third version of the kit never released before. It seems like they have four boxings of the kit: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/reifra-s13027201-junkers-g-24--275359/timeline But what differs besides engines and landing gear I don't know.
  4. True, but hopes were expressed that it would be better than the Marivox.
  5. Very beautiful build. That is something not seen built to often. (I have started on two but not finished them.) This autumn it is 100 years since the firs flight of the G24.
  6. Thanks for showing this. It is a version not often built. Perhaps because of the work needed to do it. I like that you got he greyish look of aluminium that SAAB planes have instead of the shiny aluminium. I tried to build it twice. One with the initial Revell Draken mixed with the Heller. I thought that the Revell kit with the short air intakes and short tail would be a good start for the conversion. I'm not completely happy with this build. I made another try using the Heller kit cutting down the air intakes and the tail but i I'm not happy with that one either So I will do a third try using the Hasegawa kit with Heller two seater parts and resin conversion parts for the shorter tail and air intakes. Maybe the third time is the charm.
  7. Look at this thread: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234943730-saab-105oe-sk60-trainer-172-finished/ Almost at the bottom is a note about the Pegasus kit with a pic the shows the canopy fit, There are a couple of mm missing and Quote: "And compared to that one, Marivox is almost a Tamiya"
  8. I just got this 1/20 scale kit. Lots of resin in the box and a very nice vac formed window. It got two different rear wings and two different noses with three different wings so all races are covered. Five double sided pages of instructions and a page with templates to align parts right and to form some parts like the roll bar. No decals though. There is a PDF file so one can print them but neither my laser or inkjet has been able to print on decal paper. But I compared the PDF with decals for the Lotus 49B and I can use most of those here. I almost forgot to mention, it is the 4wd Formula one car Lotus 63 from the 1969 season. It was one car that I never expected to be able to build.
  9. No they have a cargo hatch with windows but it is only good for a post-war machine. Here is an example of the work needed to turn the Italeri kit into an pre-war plane: https://baecklund.eu/scalemodels/72/corrugation.html It is possible to do but lot of work. It gets boring when you have done it four times.
  10. An airliner built in only 20 ex, included prototypes and pre-production planes must be considered a niche aircraft but I agree, it isn't forgotten
  11. No the ordinary 3 engine one. The 72 scale kit has the military big cargo hatch that the pre-war airliners didn't have.
  12. A pre-war Junkers Ju52 airliner in 1/72 scale. It can be found in 1/144 and 1/48 scales but not in 1/72.
  13. Orso

    An OK year

In theory it is. I did put some Voltage to the wheels to see if they was turning and they did. The problem with the kit is that it need a very large track radius and my old tracks would not take the locomotive. But the person I built it for is only having it as a static piece.
  14. I build as long as it is fun. Usually until it is time to paint. Then I start on something more interesting. 100+ started kits and no regrets. This is a hobby to relax and not a "must do".
  15. Thanks. I have seen it recommended but when I looked at my paint chip it looked much to dark. I like how it look on your model so I will test that colour.
  16. One of my favourite planes but I didn't know it had sirens. I thought it was used by dive bombers.
  17. Very beautiful. What blue was used for it?
  18. Here is how I made masks for the registrations of my Junkers Ju52: https://baecklund.eu/scalemodels/72/se-adr.html If I was going this route here I would photo copy the decals and use the paper copy. I have used that method before buying a Cameo cutter.
  19. https://www.saab.com/newsroom/press-releases/2014/saab-and-etps-sign-new-multi-year-agreement-for-continued-gripen-training
  20. I noticed that to. They don't mention the Gripen at all any more. Maybe they finished the Gripen system now but I found old notices in both Swedish and English that they were using the D but that was probably old articles.
  21. It seems like they are flying the 39D now but as the flying is done in Linköping, Sweden and not a single picture is to be found, my guess is that it is the standard Swedish Air Force markings on it.
  22. I had a quick look at it and found some faults/misses. They state that the F-model differs only by the canopy to the D-model but the F and J models doesn't hav a gun in the left wing. They also forgot to mention that the J model can carry extra pylons for Sidewinders under the air intakes. One funny thing about the Airfix Draken is that it is supposed to be a F-model but to do this one have to fill the left gun port. In the earliest issues of their kit Airfix made the mistake of making the early flat canopy which they got critic for so they changed it. Sadly they changed it instead of make a completely new canopy so it doesn't have the windows at the rear but still are to flat. But the thing is that if they would have skipped the IR sensor under the nose instead of altering the canopy they would have had a D-model with two guns. But the same gun issue goes for the Heller kit. Unless one build a Danish plane one has to fill the left gun port.
  23. The last couple of years I have got an urge to finish som dead projects when we are getting closer to a new year. Four submarines have been staring at me from the shelf of shame. One was a German Type VIIB submarine in 1/350 scale from Hobby Boss. I finished it as U-47. I had also a 1/350 Type VIIC from Revell. Both almost readily painted. This one was finished as U-81. I had a pair of more modern submarines that I had started to paint. SSN-688 USS Los Angeles from Hobby Boss and SSN-721 USS Chicago. This one is also from Hobby Boss. Both in 1/350. With my earlier build of the SSN-772 USS Greeneville I have all three series of the Los Angeles class submarines.
  24. My kind of modelling. if you don't have tu use a saw on a model it is a bad kit.. Never heard of this ship so I am looking forward seeing it grow.
