  1. That's it!, I always got confused as to which landing ship was which! I actually have a pic taken from the other side that evening with Antelopes Lynx on deck, sorry for any confusion.
  2. Mike at that time Argonaut was unable to move due to safety and bomb damage, to hazard a guess and given their reputation of always being there to help, I would say Plymouth or Yarmouth.
  3. We may have Bumped into each other before Ex 702/815 Maintainer 1980 - 95 I too am a Lynx Nut - Funny how it hangs on even after you leave, Infectious Aircraft to say the least. Edit: And suddenly I realise you were Army But I dare say the "Lynx Effect" is the same.
  4. Sorry to jump in late here but I was looking for images of XZ233 for reasons which will become apparrent, I have just joined here and spotted this thread. I know this Aircraft Intimately since I have worked on 233 on several occasions in my former career in the Fleet Air Arm as an Air Mechanic and so on. I had worked on this on 702 NAS when I was at Yeovilton but, more notably HMS Argonaut flight which I was to join after training, swapped their former Lynx (XZ231) with XZ233 in Jan/Feb 1982, I actually did the lettering/Art on the Nose, Cabin doors and it also had a design of Jason holding up the golden fleece which I had hand painted on the tail (I have pics and the original templates I used. We took 233 to Norway for a couple of weeks trip, then down to portland where we were when the Falklands broke out. Worth points are that 233 was with HMS Argonaut and ranged on the flight deck when the ship was hit with 2 bombs and crippled, the Aircraft was also airborne and got tangled up in the attach by Argentine Pilot Owen Crippa in an Aermacchi MB339a which strafed the back end of Argonaut Injuring 3 personnel on the hangar roof. 233 was dispatched after Antelope sunk to ferry a maintenance crew and aircrew out to the side of San Carlos to pick up Antelopes Lynx and take it to HMS Intrepid, on the night of Antelopes fire, 233 was launched to privide assistance in Illuminating the ship for fire crews and for Aroginauts boat crew to get 22 people off the Fo'csle when they abandoned ship. Lastly, on the way home XZ233 was serviceable and in great shpae after that, we exchanged XZ233 for XZ696, 233 went south again, this time with HMS Cardiff, I do believe apparrently 233 got bounced by a pair of Skyhawks looking for trade, the pilot bluffed them by facing them with the 2 Sea Skua's attached which caused them to abort their attack (Possibly not knowing what the missiles were?) 233 Would make a good subject, especially in its "Bomb Alley Configuration of a Sea Skua on a single carrier port side, and the home made Exocet decoy (I have pics) attached to the Starboard Carrier. If anyone is interested in this subject I also have quite a few pics along with the Artwork templates I used if anyone want to do it in its pre falklands guise. Thanks
