  1. Bob... ...Hi... to get the deeper (4 inches) 47 cowl to flow nice, in section profile - the whole lower(below thrust line) of the Seafire cowl had to be widened at the panel line. A 46 cowl could not be taken off and a 47 cowl placed, like in the Airfix kits. Did not the "NEW" wings still retain the gull at the fairing section? ... Unsubstantiated rumour - the 47 wheels were at a slightly different angle to the struts to give an extra couple of inches width in the track. and to sit the (wider) tyres back in the wing a bit, but there was still a different hump on the wing from 46 to 47 PS...Anyone know where to get / have an Aeroclub Spitty 21 kit??
  2. Airfix Mk.22/24; Seafire Mk.46/47 really no serious problems, although not absolutely perfect. Ask Roy Sutherland, and Eduard.... >>>>>.I have the Airfix 46/47...aren't they still supposed to have gulled wings? Could not seee much evidence of that...the cockpit is too wide and I do not think the bottom engine cowls were interchangeable...the drawings I have show the 46 lower cowl profile to be different to the 47 cowl profile in width at the join...plus there were slightly different wheel geometry between the two... Steve
  3. Yes..thanks ....I have noticed the SEAFANG spinner is shorter than the SEAFIRE47 spinner, but do not have any definitive lengths Steve
  4. Sorry...all I see is the dreaded REDEX I think they are somewhere between 36 and 41 inches long...depending on sources. did not know different marks had different lengths TX Steve
  5. >>>hi guys... ....can any 1 tell me 4 sure the length of a Spit/Seafire contra-prop spinner?? ???? Tx Steve
  6. Are the MAP henderson mk 24 drawings OK??? tx Steve
  7. WooHoo!!!.... ...waiting...waiting...all the time waiting.... Steve
  8. thank you too for your interest Barra... ...unfotunately this airpalne I am rebuilding is based on these particular drawings. they are still regarded as a creditable source and as such are needed for competition...I would be happy to proceed with newer research butI am tied to the original documentation. back in the day they were the dog's biscuits. tx all Steve
  9. read where some Luftwaffe ace was being chased by a P38 in Italy...he had to manualy over ride the shutters to closed - so he could get a few more knots out of his 109G. He hoped to outrun the Lightning before the motor overheated there was always a little rectangle left in the top flap to let boundary layer air out and this was enough for cruising about, climb out was the big thing where they all came into play. you need to find some pictures Steve
  10. "The internet...don't they have that on computer now??" ... Homer Simson I bet if they had the 'net 35 years back one would have e-mailed Martin Baker, for sure, plate or no. That's all very nice Iain... ...If I wanted just ANY MB5 plans I would have said...you have missed the point . The plane I am refitting is based on those actual FW Spring plans...the source of which has finished, they are not available any more. I do have a few others, which I sourced over the last 20 years . The beauty of the web is we now have a world wide community of propeller heads to source from. I am hoping someone kind will aid me. I AM shifting for myself by asking here. ...Talking to F W Spring collecters now...if someone has a nice warp free copy of the Spring MB5 and/or the CAC15 they would like to share or trade...please PM me or post here plz. tx. all Steve
  11. Hi guys... ...anyone got a nice (non photo copied /distorted) file on the Martin Baker MB5 and/or the CAC15 Kangaroo by F W Spring You can PM me [email protected]... - or post it here. Nice big fat file plz so I can blow it up 1/24!! I realy don't know how the old timers got through without digital reproduction...wonder anything got built Tx. Steve
  12. Edgar can you post that diagram on here plz? Looks like it was all arrester hook maybe Spiteful is same as MK24 @ 32'11", but Seafang is 34'1"...so there is 14" to account for there too What we need is the length of a MK 21 with 6 blades and with 5 blades to see if the spinner DID change....just so many drawings of funny spinners for 6 bladers. Also the actual flying Seafire47 has a different looking spinner, but that could be the one that come with those props Steve (still have not seen any drawings of the compression/retract system for the oleo's that Price talks about in his Spitty book...anyone???)
  13. thanx for the reply Edgar... ...I know the XIV/21 (32'8") was shorter than the 22/24 (32'11.25"") What went into the difference from the 24 to the Seafire 47 (34'4") what took up the extra 17"...assuming my dimensions are correct...was it all stinger hook or was the spinner longer too Most drawings do have the spinners the same but some do not... Steve Anyone can correct me on the dimensions???
  14. Hi guys... ...can anyone tell me if a mk21 Spitty had the same spinner profile on the contra-props as did its 5 bladed brothers? Was it the same profile (6 blade) as a Seafire 47? ?? Also - I have the length for a mk24 as 32'11" ... but a Seafire 47 as 34'4". A difference of 17 inches. Not all of this extra length was arrester hook was it?, maybe some extra length may come from a longer 6 blade spinner. I have the 5 blade spinner at 28" round and 32" long, is the 6 blader the same... Tx Steve
  15. Cheers, Daniel. Danny Boy...that is a lot The picture is of the Spit "Grey Nurse" at Temora I took in November it is a big file and you can blow it right up on Picassa It is in 100% left profile ...for anyone interested in scaling etc. I would need to gather a lot of brain cells to do the other proceedure ...sorry not right now. Only figured out how to send it to a mailbox at the mo Will work on it when I learn how to get the skinny typewriter to talk to the funny TV better Steve PS OK ..it is here https://picasaweb.google.com/10763626975977...019566171809154 the original is 6000kb (whatever that is)...but not on the picasa web, only my e-mail It is an MK VIII and I cannot see torque links
