  1. Morning Chaps I must say, I think that a classics range would be an excellent idea, both Airfix and Hornby kits. There always has been the argument that car modelling is not that big in the UK, and this, I believe is where the conversation always gets a bit squiffy. Airfix don't just sell to the UK, they sell to the rest of the world too, and when you add all those people to the mix, it is a very large car modellers market indeed. True, maybe there aren't a lot of US modellers, or Japanese modellers that will what a Sunbeam or a Victor, and it seems the presiding opinion of car modellers nowadays is they want THE very best, with everything in it, right now, in 3 different colours. So why would they want re pops of 50 year old kits? But it wont just end with car modellers... You release a classic range of cars, the wingyones will break in internet with the list of stuff they want, followed by the shipyones, tankyones, you get the picture. Maybe its time that a little lateral thinking was done by Airfix. Years ago, they sold off their OO scale railway kits to Dapol. They rebranded them and are still selling quite well today. Maybe that might be the answer. Like as we might, Airfix/Hornby are not going to start re releasing 30,40,50 year old car kits, because they are nice and think it might make them a bob or two. But if they were to sell the molds off to a similar concern as Dapol? I know the model railway market is probably much bigger than the plastic modelling market, but I actually think that idea has some merit.
  2. The Pagani is an EPIC kit Shaun, its the best Aoshima have done
  3. Afternoon Chaps Update on recent acquisitions I've built about 6 of these already, but its nice to have one in a shiny new box Always wanted an old Suburban, I just love the shape I'm not a huge fan of Mclarens, but hey, its a model, had to buy it This was just a lucky find and one I've been after a while Another of my favourites, Love El Camino's so it was adopted Now this was indeed a lucky find.... Yet another lambo to add to the growing number parking in the cupboard Finally found the last of the 32nd scales I have been looking for Obviously I had to buy one of these, just be rude not too And finally, one can never have enough H vans These weren't all purchased in one go, last say month and a bit Thanks for looking Mad Steve
  4. I.....cant....hold....it.....in.....any.....longer...... CARS!!!...(please)
  5. Hiya Keith Thanks for that The Merak is painted with Tamiya TS 47 Chrome Yellow, then Tamiya Clear and then a quick wipe over with Tamiya Modelling Wax to get out all the fingerprints. Mad Steve
  6. Thanks Man... It has subsequently been stuck back on Seems to have fell off
  7. Morning Chaps I had an urge to kick off some of the inhabitants of the shelf of doom over the Christmas break, and actually managed to make some progress... AIRFIX MINI COUNTRYMAN 32nd Scale. I love these Airfix 32nd scale kits. This one is quite a challenge with all the masking and that's where it stalled on the shelf. Really the only thing wrong with the kit is the horrible tyres, but at least with this one you are able to drill out the suspension to make the front wheels positionable. Add a good dollop of mud and weh hey Was very peeved to notice that the decal around the front headlight had moved... Ill sort it out at some point... AIRFIX JAGUAR XKR GT3 - 32nd Scale Another in this lovely series. This builds up really nicely, until you get to the decals. To say they put up a fight is an understatement and the ones on the rear panels being the toughest to get to behave. One tip I picked up, cut the roof decals into three (windscreen, roof, rear window) so that you can get all the decalling done on the body and sealed before you put the windows in. I added a little bit of CF decals here and there on this one. AIRFIX MASERATI MERAK 24th Scale The Zimmer frame really came out for this one as it has been lounging around on the shelf forever. This was originally a Gunze Sangyo kit and it still says so on the sprues and decals. It doesn't go together too badly, certainly shows its age in the interior (still tooled for motorised) but its just about the only Merak there is. The one big thing with this kit is that the wheels are just too small and make it look a bit silly and the decals exploded when they hit the water. Still, I'm happy with it. ITALERI VOLVO FH16XL & 20foot CONTAINER TRAILER I'm getting back into building trucks (woohoo) and decided it has been faaaar too long since I built a Trailer. Truck is painted in Tamiya Coral Blue with half of the kit suppled decals added. some small additions added to the cab, couple of newspapers and a coffee cup. Trailer is built OOB, with the frame being painted Semi Gloss Black and the container Flat red with some weathering in strategic places. Ok well thanks for looking... This clears most of the shelf of doom for now... There's still one or two lurkers, but they are getting sorted out tout suite Mad Steve.
  8. You build models as well Mike? Oh... I thought you were just the tech bloke (now before profile 'mysterious' disappears... Mike, you are a Star! Keeping this site going and all the ruffians there within, dealing with life as well and running that strip club, its no wonder you didn't build anything ) May your knives be sharp and your glue sticky in 2018
  9. Dennis I applaud you for sticking to your guns with this. It is not easy to get a GB off the ground, and when you do, there will always be quite a lot of people that say why don't you add this, or that or everything. I think you should stick to the original idea, British MBT's, and run the group build on the 4 tanks mentioned and I'm quite sure you will get the numbers you need. Sign me up, and If you are still looking for a co host, then i'd be happy to help out. Mad Steve
  10. You hit the nail on the head there Andy. It does seem that no one is as yet looking at the Veyron, or even the Chiron for that matter, yet Airfix popped one out as a Quickbuild kit, along with the other one that doesn't look as being kitted soon either, the Mclaren P1. I think the car modellers are less grumpier than their wingy thing cousins because so many releases come from left field that they are just happy at whats being released The Aoshima Pagani is a good example....
  11. Will, I love your style and you certainly have the knack for figures, Fantastic man, really
  12. I think its a bit of a Catch 22 situation with the 32nd Scale cars. The recent rally and race cars that Airfix produced are really quite nice little kits. Yes they have their flaws (the wheels), and some might say their detail is too simplified, but they filled a hole in the model car market, with some wonderful, never seen marques. Yes, they were 32nd scale, which historically is what Airfix cars are about, (originally, taken from slot car scale) but they took a gamble on releasing them, and maybe they didn't reach the targets they wanted, but they certainly filled a void in the model car market. If we were to take this up to the next level; what if they had produced those cars in 24th scale? A Mini Cooper, Mini Countryman & Ford Fiesta WRC, Jaguar XKR GT3 and an Aston DBR9... Personally, I think that they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demands, because all but two of those kits are not available in IM, the two being the Fiesta WRC & Mini Cooper. The Jaguar and Aston would probably in themselves bring in a serious amount of dosh. But two things have to be taken into account. - The enormous cost it would take for new tooling's of those kits, versus anticipated sales. Not everyone would be like me, and buy every one, probably two of each and of course the cost of what the kit would be when it hit the shelf. - Entering into the 24th scale car market is like falling into a bottomless well. It would be mere days before the forums would be buzzing with Airfix's new 24th scale kits, ill stick to Tamiya, this is wrong, wrong colour, box is the wrong colour, you get the picture. Airfix produce good kits, yes, but they cannot compete with Tamiya, Revell, Hasegawa, Fujimi in that market. Airfix, Like any other business in this day and age are struggling, they need the cash from their sales to keep themselves going, and to design and produce new kits. Aircraft are their No1 market, so that's where the majority of their money will go and it will continue like that. But having said that, I do think maybe some more forward thinking is needed. I realise that they cant please everyone all the time, but maybe reach out to the none aircraft builders and do some research, say, for example, 32nd cars you'd like to see next, 48th Armour you'd like to see next.
  13. Oh my god... Its that new Yeti isnt it, its slowly turning you into a speed freak Well, as a distinct non builder of wingy things, that little dio has inspired me no end to build the 48th scale Defiant that somehow followed me home and plop it on a nice little base too. Good idea though for a German one as well, sure that one will look just as good. and who knows...... maybe a car will be on next years yearbook
  14. Hi Racetrack I don't think there is a 4 Door Super Sport in 24th scale. There is a Die Cast tho, I think its the company is called Greenlight...
  15. Now those look nice Jorgen. But I love the A106. Always good to see something different
  16. Gorby Firstly, commiserations for you loss, sad thing that. Some lovely models there man, but I absolutely love your BOB diorama
  17. Those are some excellent builds Martin, really like the Whirlwinds
  18. Admiral Sah ! I'm in the same boat, but I've purchased the IBG R100 version to do a civilian one, but there's even less piccies of them. Think I'll do it in something like a Heavy equipment yellowish colour. Going back into the dark recesses of my memory,(usually a dangerous endeavor), I seem to recall a few years back that one of the die-cast manufacturers did a pioneer, i think it was like a blue & red colour. I think even Oxford do some too.
  19. Very nice indeed sir, some excellent models there My favourites are the two JGSDF vehicles
  20. Yaaaaaaay... more wheelie things All excellent builds but I love the Faun
  21. Those are excellent Steve, love the skin tones on the female figure
