If you have a groove depicting the edge of the boot lid; I usually just score the plastic, again and again, . . . along that groove with a new sharp no.11 scalpel blade. then tidy the edges with some fine grit paper If there is just a raised line, same process except the first few scores are done very carefully following the line to get a decent grove to follow. Patience, take your time and eventually you'll cut through the plastic

Bleed under? Use either a thin coat of clear varnish or a thin coat of the colour you are masking over; thus if there is any bleed under the masking tape its either clear or the same colour

I have Vallejo 'Dark Sea Grey' 70-991 which is not; but its just right for the lighter grey of USN jets' cockpits

I don't think the A-20 was badly painted. Look at the black line edges under the RH The paint used was a water based distemper I think the paint has suffered from heavy weathering due to heavy rain. Look at the ground beyond the fuselage, it appears to be very wet On the famous/infamous photo of the Spitfire; that was just a moment in time. Is there a photo of it after this? The groundcrew could have gone over the lines, tidying the edges, washing the roundel and letters et cetera There were 10s of thousands of groundcrew available to do this painting and whilst the first few aircraft may have been rush painted there was a 2 day delay for D-Day so the groundcrew had more time to get the aircraft painted Tradesmen learn their trade and can do it with skills that would astonish us. One of my late brothers-in-law was a time-served painter. He could paint a straight line without masking. I once watched him paint a very straight 2 inch wide line 40ft long along a hospital corridor wall without masking. There was very little wobble along the line and the finish end was only about 1 cm lower than the start I once had a friend who did the pin striping on the left side of BMW motorcycles. He did all the pin stripe painting freehand and it was all near perfect. Years of doing it meant perfection in his trade And I could go on, but that is enough

Just before this year's SMW my no.1 son introduced me to these crazy looking cars Its a Japanese culture, to modify certain cars. It started with motorcycle gangs and has been adopted by car & van owners In Japan they are totally illegal. The red stripe through the number plate apparently denotes that both the car and the number plate are illegal. The round things hanging off the rear bumpers are passenger hand-holds stolen from buses or trains. The more you have tells others how 'anti-social' you are People wear very outlandish clothes. Some of it is actually quite normal side-culture clothes to us in UK but to the Japanese who are rather more formal its way off target If you want to build a model car like this of course you can take any car and do it but to keep it strictly to the Japanese ideas you must only use certain Japanese car or vans. There may be some odd photos in the N.I. newspapers held in the Newspaper Library in Belfast, I seem to remember that there were some photos when vehicles were brought in for Operation Motorman for July 1972 AVRE Centurion tanks were brought in undercover but armoured cars and armoured Land Rovers and such were on the transporters My B-I-L who was an ex-Irish Guards tank driver assured me that the transporters were just the same as the Airfix kit, steep sloped trailer and all. Until the 'Troubles' got really bad, ie from 1972 onwards, the Army used to do a big annual military display at a place called Kings Hall, in Belfast. Rather like the 'Royal Tournament' it featured 25lb gun teams moving guns, army dog teams running courses, the White Helmets Army motorcycle display team et cetera. The heavy equipment such as Saracens were brought to the show on Scammell transporters The convoys of Army vehicles and other equipment carried on the Scammells from the docks to Palace Barracks passed on a main road not far from where I lived and my friends and I used to watch to see what we could spot. A lot of equipment was brought in to keep 10,000 troops mobile. The oddest cargo spotted was some Gazelle helicopters when the Army was replacing the old Bell Sioux and Scout helicopters with them. First time we ever saw a Gazelle

On some threads instead of a full photo there appears a small square with a code next to it. Sometimes when I click on this square it opens another black window with the wee square in it. Still no photo Last light I took a chance and clicked on that wee square and it took me to yet another window, but with the photo showing As soon as I closed those windows my computer told me I'd imported viruses and other nasty things so my computer refused me access to certain other on-line sites until it cleared my computer system. Amongst the websites my computer refused to allow me access to were my on-line banks and this delayed for about 2 hours my being able to pay a customs bill, and also it blocked a website I was in the middle of buying from, It was only two hours but at the time it happened I wasn't to know how long it would take. Can someone please explain, in words of two syllables, what is going on? thanks

My two thoughts; 1 tell the people of Telford the show is on. I used taxis, several taxis, over the weekend and not one driver, nor their dispatch offices, knew that there was a show on until late Saturday evening. Some didn't even know on Sunday 2. farm out ticket sales to certain local shops. In N.I. concert/show tickets are farmed out to certain outlet shops; eg, if I want to see Snow Patrol in Belfast I can go to about 8 different shops in 2 towns near me and buy tickets through them

This Shorts SC.1 was multiple parts. All butt joints. I drilled mating holes in the parts and fit cut down pin nails into the holes using a gel superglue as the adhesive for the nail into the holes and for the resin to resin parts I just used the superglue as I would ordinary polystyrene glue; ie, run a bead on the parts and stick 'em together

The 'hood ornament' is the Calorimeter. Its is the radiator water temperature gauge. It is a moving needle sandwiched between two pieces of thick glass with a metal frame. It screws down into the radiator top tank and has a metal tube which is immersed in the water.
