I hate you guys!! I'd forgotten the Merlin car for over 50 years and you've awakened memories But I need to delve further in for details Further into places long forgotten, inhabited by creepy crawlies and slithery snakes and long-legged spiders and other nasty beasties We never had a 'name' for the Merlin powered car. It was just 'the car'

In the late 1960s - early 1970s a mate of one of my cousins was going to attempt the land speed record, for vehicles with driven wheels. To that end he a built a chassis which carried 3 RR Merlin engines. He ran it in the early hours of the day up the M1 or M6 ( I forget which and I'm not familiar with English motorways.) We operated as support carrying extra fuel and oil. Peelers never caught him. The chassis was nothing more than a frame with engines & radiators and single (ex-Spitfire) bucket seat behind rudimentary steering. The thing could only go in straight line. We had to tow it to the motorway for its test runs It all ended with his death. Got drunk, wandered on to a railway line and got hit by a train

That will work. I've one that. You just need to use a small fine file to smooth the sides of the slot. If you don't take too much off the remainder forms a sort-of grip -
Buna rubber had a slight, but noticeable, brown cast to it so add some dark brown or burnt umber into your dark grey. if you get really dark umber you can use it straight

But the law may be same or similar
-
Caveat, N.I. law can be different, You must allow a 'reasonable' * length of time after notifying the owners in writing Then it can be removed by you at their cost and moved to a safe place In no circumstances must you dispose of it nor bring it to harm whilst removing it Should it come to harm after you have place it in a safe place that is not your responsibility * 'reasonable' length of time is subjective but can mean a week, no less but more
