  1. Well, it does have a double meaning; in a cafe its a soft bread bun, in certain other contexts its a head butt
  2. Soft Belfast bap, lashings of butter, crispy fried (or grilled will do) smoked bacon

or fibreglass or even to concrete
  4. I hate you guys!! I'd forgotten the Merlin car for over 50 years and you've awakened memories But I need to delve further in for details Further into places long forgotten, inhabited by creepy crawlies and slithery snakes and long-legged spiders and other nasty beasties We never had a 'name' for the Merlin powered car. It was just 'the car'
  5. I had a break from modelling whilst I rebuilt more BMW torches I'll be back on this about Wednesday or Thursday
  6. I've not started on a Tomahawk I had a break from modelling whilst I rebuilt more torches I'll be back on this about Wednesday or Thursday

  9. I normally build cars in 1/32 but maybe I can go to 1/24 on this I have some 1/24 Spitfires and Hurricanes . . . . just remembered, I have two scrap 1/24 Hurricanes in my storage unit. Given to me years ago for parts, or rebuilding I'll add it to my build of Chitty Bang Bang 1
  10. Does anyone know what Spitfire or Hurricane kits in 1/32 include a Merlin engine?
  11. PS. There were NO silencers on this thing. There were only basic exhaust manifolds. x 36 It was loud enough to wake the dead in the next country I think we managed over 450 mph on the test runs If I can get some miniature model Merlin engines I might build a model of it
  12. He was a. an eccentric b. loaded c. and he was The Right Honourable . . . and you could pick up Merlins 10 for shilling, although not all running Until after the film 'Battle of Britain' and everyone started to restore Spitfires and Hurricanes
  13. In the late 1960s - early 1970s a mate of one of my cousins was going to attempt the land speed record, for vehicles with driven wheels. To that end he a built a chassis which carried 3 RR Merlin engines. He ran it in the early hours of the day up the M1 or M6 ( I forget which and I'm not familiar with English motorways.) We operated as support carrying extra fuel and oil. Peelers never caught him. The chassis was nothing more than a frame with engines & radiators and single (ex-Spitfire) bucket seat behind rudimentary steering. The thing could only go in straight line. We had to tow it to the motorway for its test runs It all ended with his death. Got drunk, wandered on to a railway line and got hit by a train

  15. That will work. I've one that. You just need to use a small fine file to smooth the sides of the slot. If you don't take too much off the remainder forms a sort-of grip
  16. Buna rubber had a slight, but noticeable, brown cast to it so add some dark brown or burnt umber into your dark grey. if you get really dark umber you can use it straight
  17. Look for Dapol, Revell or Gowland & Gowland and under the name 'Highway' for a 1911 Roll Royce The parts break-down is exactly the same as Airfix I'd even venture to suggest that the Airfix kit is a copy of the Gowland & Gowland kit
  18. But the law may be same or similar
  19. Caveat, N.I. law can be different, You must allow a 'reasonable' * length of time after notifying the owners in writing Then it can be removed by you at their cost and moved to a safe place In no circumstances must you dispose of it nor bring it to harm whilst removing it Should it come to harm after you have place it in a safe place that is not your responsibility * 'reasonable' length of time is subjective but can mean a week, no less but more
