  1. Common problem. I've just finished a Typhoon II which was split top/bottom. The bottom was wider than the top by about 1.5mm. Just had to blance the extra each side then file it away. On others, if the dry fit shows a mis-alignment I check the locating pins and holes, often cutting the pins off. I try to get an even fit but the over balance might go to the underneath. I find the problem of mismatched sides more with old mould kits than the recent new ones.
  2. There are soooooo many techniques, all good, for doing wood. For my props I first paint the blades Humbrol 10 [dark] brown in enamel, then whilst thats wet I use a fine brush to paint on Humbrol 9 tan acrylic, and maybe a bit of 103 cream or 61 flesh [just a bit of either]. I only paint the lighter colours in the direction of hub to tip, using only a few strokes of the brush.
  3. My latest bottle of Fairy didn't work either. Nor was it as good at cleaning the kitchen work surfaces. I wonder if its been altered and weakened.
  4. Yup, everybody calls the Lancaster 'Thumper' - including the BBMF A quote from the official BBMF website; [22 January 2015] ''The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's Avro Lancaster, VeRA, flew from Hamilton, Ontario to meet her British counterpart, Thumper — the only other surviving flight worthy Lancaster Bomber in the world — the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's (BBMF) Lancaster at RAF Coningsby. '' If the name is good enough for them and the RAF veterans, then its good enough for me to use it.
  5. More offers added today. http://www.airfix.com/uk-en/shop/veday-bundles.html?utm_campaign=411060_Airfix+VE+Day+new+additions-Week+6+2015&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Hornby+PLC&utm_content=VE+Day+bundles&dm_i=2DJZ,8T6C,22Z9M1,JLEI,1
  6. One can buy small profile gauges which can help. For anyone who doesn't know what this is; its a centre bar with dozens of thin rods sticking out through it to each side. These bars are clamped only moderately tightly. When the rods are pressed up against a shape they slide through the centre bar, and when you take it away you have the shape, on both sides of the centre bar, but opposites, like a positive and negative. Another way is to put a lump of Milliput in one side, trim it flush with the joint line. When it hardens, trim away the raggedy edges fore and aft and you should have the inside profile for that part. You may need to do this for each side as many vac fuselages are not even on the inside, each side being slightly different. Of course you can then glue the two Milliput parts together and use that as a bulk head. I'd not recommend using one lump of Milliput and doing both sides at the same time; the miliput may stick the parts together rather well, preventing further easy building.
  7. After 17 [thats SEVEN-TEEN!] years the source of the mysterious peryton signals has been discovered - as coming from the microwave oven in the facility! And not from some distant galaxy. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/australia/11582733/Strange-outer-space-signal-that-baffled-Australian-scientists-turns-out-to-be-microwave-oven.html DOH!
  8. First call would be to see what hardware is available to radio control aeroplane modellers. They have numerous types of light-weight ball joints and internal/external thread rods which may be suitably adapted to your job.
  9. I succumbed and got the 1/72 Spitfires set, and added the HMS Victory and a load of paints. There goes the credit card budget again.
  10. 'Just Jane' is the grounded Lanc at East Kirby. The BBMF one is 'Thumper'. They'll have her fixed within a few weeks.
  11. Any of the oil/water traps should work. A local car parts accessory shop which sells tools will have oil/water traps at reasonable prices. Use the biggie till you have enough money saved for a smaller, quieter and more portable compressor.
  12. QUICK! Its back! http://www.airfix.com/uk-en/airfix-ve-day-bundle-1-48-spitfire-with-free-seafire-and-cutting-matt.html
  13. Not at this time. That might be a winter project.
  14. On opening the storage box I found I have more of these than I remembered. 6 Austin Tourers; 2 x 1925 & 4 x 1932 - one of these will be converted into an 'Ulster' 2 x MGs, 1 x Ford Woody, 1 x Morgan And there are two vans, which I may not build this time round. For anyone not familiar with these car kits here are two - an Austin 7 Swallow Saloon and an MG alongside an Oxford diecast Ice Cream Anglia van [They were built several years ago so the paint job isn't as good as I may be able to do now] Here are a few used in a diorama of one of my motor club's events; The base is about 7 inches square over-all.
  15. Another vote for the Optivisor. I don't always wear mine, most of the time I use reading glasses, in all powers from 1 to 3.5 depending on what I need to see, after that the Opti is used for really close up work.
  16. After another successful raid on the Death Star and getting away from Darth Vader again the team went to a Chinese restaurant for a celebratory meal. There was Han, Chewy, Princess, Obi, Luke, Yoda.... They were all enjoying their meal... All except Luke; he couldn't manage the chop-sticks; his food was going everywhere except into his mouth. Seeing this Obi leans across the table and in a loud whisper says; 'Use the forks Luke, use the forks'
  17. Others have said it; thanks to the GB leaders. Great subject; I got three of my 'must do sometime' done and dusted.
  18. For what period? Humbrol recommend their 19 for the Gnat and their new 238 for the Hawk.
  19. Another ex-Chippie learner. Lots of good flying around the country, put in lots of hours. Got close to getting my licence - couldn't tho cos I'm colourblind. Once flew at about 30ft to read road signs cos instructor got lost and didn't have a map, followed roads back to Colerne. We were logged as 30 minutes overdue. Had about 10 minutes worth of fuel left. Pay attention to the 'how to bail out' instructions. Once I was nearly stepping off the wing when control was recovered. Landed with me half in/half out of cockpit. Got carpeted cos neither of us were wearing Mae Wests whilst flying over water.
  20. This is 116 on here; the bright green tail stripe and spinner are Humbrol 3 Cant understand why your 116 is too bright
