  1. Judging by the box art, this was one of the unique Swordfish that carried 2 torpedos 😂
  2. If you know anyone who has the Revell or MPM Wellington Mk.ll (Merlin engines) I think all of the parts for the Pegasus engines are also included on the sprues and these have separate piston heads. Would save a lot of scratch building unless you are determined of course... Clive.
  3. Ok I'm still confused. For those of us with only one brain cell, is the Frog fuselage correct or not and if not, what corrections need to be made? 🙄 Clive the confused...
  4. Pete, my late Father served in the RAF during the war and got up close to a few German wrecks. He always used to say they smelled like cat's p*ss. Having been inside the Shack at Newark I can only say that it it's current smell is diminished from what it WAS it must have been quite pungent in its day 😁
  5. Love those cockpit pictures, I can almost smell it from here.
  6. I always rated the Frog ju88 over the Airfix when I was younger but looking at it now there's something distinctly odd going on at the front end, looks much too bulbous for want of a better description.
  7. That'd be either Scott or Campbell Black from the Comet racer if my memory serves...
  8. Would be interested to know which ones. I used Halford's Nissan Silver on a P-51 that I built and that didn't look too bad.
  9. When I was a kid I was inspired by that artwork. I think I bought this kit from a shop in Lowestoft in 1972-3 (would that be Hannants?) I Ialways considered the "Hun" to be one of the best looking jets around. I now have several if the original ESCI kits in the stash awaiting the nerve to tackle a nmf. Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out at the hands of a more capable modeller than I'll ever be.
  10. Thanks Mike, a very comprehensive answer. I did wonder about a non-flying configuration.
  11. So after years of being informed that Italeri had their 1/72 Wessex tail rotors rotating the wrong way, which all images appeared to validate, I was confused to find this image https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/142493 which shows the rotor rotating counter-clockwise as Italeri would have it. I understand that this is an HAS.1 Wessex so wondered if the rotation was specific to this mark but a quick Google doesn't show any other HAS.1's so fitted. Any ideas why this particular airframe appears to be unique?
  12. The Italeri (also boxed by Airfix) is quite crude and not the best fitting but not unbuildable. The Revell by contrast is a more recent release on a par with their Tornado/Typhoon quality and also available as a 2-seater. If your budget allows, I would recommend the Revell every time. Clive.
  13. Well it had me fooled. Thanks for clearing up the (non-existent) mystery guys 😊
  14. It looks like it actually passes through the windscreen, some sort of optical sight perhaps? It's certainly curious. I've been through all of my references and still can't see it on any other photo.
  15. Undoubtedly an Airfix bagged kit but can't recall whether it was the Hurricane IV or the Ju87. Both moulded in hard silver plastic.
  16. One of those clickbaits from Facebook showing pictures of the Mosquito. I was interested in the 7th picture down captioned "RAF night fighter pilot Eric Loveland and navigator Jack Duffy in the cockpit of their Mosquito March 1945". Just in front of the windscreen appears to be some sort of faring that I've never seen on any Mosquito before. Any clues as to what it is and any clearer pictures? https://m.warhistoryonline.com/military-vehicle-news/warbird-de-havilland-mosquito.html#
  17. I was under the impression that there were 4 small rectangular windows on the coaming between the cockpit and the gunner's position. I recall Ray Rimmell adding these when he did his British Bomber Collection many moons ago. See here http://aircraft-photographs.s3-website-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/Bomber-Fairey-Battle-RAF-light-32.htm
  18. I would add the Beaver to this list, multiple options (ski, wheel, floats) and lots of civil or military aftermarket decals available. Another favourite of mine from the "classic" days would be the Mirage F.1, sure there are more modern kits out there but they aren't Airfix which is what the OP was asking about. Others that spring to mind: Marauder Strikemaster Banshee Skyvan Cherokee Arrow Islander Cessna 0-2
  19. Read it recently. Gives a good account of early raids using Hampdens and Manchesters plus his little known stint as a pilot of a Beaufighter night fighter. Obviously it majors on his time with 617 Squadron.
  20. http://s164.photobucket.com/user/ChairmanRed/media/Airfix%20Release%20Reviews/Airfix%20Curtis%20Hawk%20A01003/21-1.jpg.htmlOk I'll take your word for it. I thought p-40s had small inner doors that dropped down next to the u/c leg (parts 5b and 6b) and I didn't think that I could see them here but I was wrong. Regards
