  1. Hi Now that the old Klear has just about sold out, well apart from a few on eBay that are going for £20 a bottle what do all you Klear users use now. I am looking for a water thin gloss acrylic varnish just like clear, I do have one that is Enamel Based but I need an acrylic based one as well. Thanks Paul
  2. Hi I get all mine from the local discount Chemist They are the same as those sold in the model world but a fraction of the price. When looking in addition to the fine file versions also get some of the ones used to polish nails, they can get even the finest scratches out of plastic. and that includes removing blemishes out of clear screens as well. Paul
  3. Hi Vallejo list their Model Color 958 40 as a match for Gunze 19 but 958/40 is Pink so something is amiss And Humbrol list their 200 as a match to Gunze 19 and that also is a Pink You sure its #19 Paul
  4. Yes it is a bit expensive and you do end up with enough to dip thousands of tweezers, you could start up your own cottage industry Besides when are talking modelling since when has good value come into modelling. No one would be using and making everyone jelous Iwata Custom microns at £300 with a £100 Iwata Revolution being good enough for most peoples modelling needs would they. Paul

    Gloss white paint

Hi As said it might be possible but as white is one of the hardest paints to paint with due in part to the lack of pigment I would stick with the highest quality model paint you can buy. If you are looking to save money give some of the artist grade paints a go, get them from your local art shop. Artist Oil paints can be thinned with white spirit or Enamel thinners. (Tip, squeeze out a portion of oil paint onto some corrugated cardboard and leave it for an hour or so to soak up the excess oil, then scrape it off, put it in a jar and add your thinner. If using Acrylics again you have the choice of tubed paints or the ready prepared pots of paint sold under various name like DecoArt, Apple Barrel, Anitas and DoCrafts etc. they can be used from the pot for brush painting or thinned with water for airbrushing. They won't be quite as good as proper fine pigment hobby paints but they are close enough to use successfully, do a search on YouTube there are loads of top American figure painters using nothing but artist acrylics. Paul
  6. Hi Nice job you have done there. With all the hype over the American M1 Abrams its often forgotten that they where still using the M60 at the time of the First Golf War, I don't even remember seeing any on the news at the time or in any of the Documentaries that have been shown after, watch those you would think the only tracked vehicles was the Abrams, Bradly and the British Challenger. so seeing an up-dated M60 is a nice relief Paul
  7. Good picture you have found there Nerazzurri, shows the wheel construction real clear.. Thanks Paul
  8. Hi I use numbers 5 & 7 with mine and couldn't do without them I did get the number 10's as well but found then too strong Paul
  9. Hi You could use this and make your own http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Plastidip-Black-...p-/160824920776 Paul
  10. Hi I regularly use both on a model without any issues, just make sure each colour is fully dry and hardened before proceeding and don't use Cellulose thinner its too hot. I know Humbrol don't recommend using an acrylic varnish over their enamels but I have never had any issue. Paul
  11. Hi Model Master Enamels are a good paint but be careful with your colour choice as they are closer to Tamiya colours than accurate WW2 colours Their Dunkelgelb is too yellow and their Olive Drab is too light, Their German Field Grey is also very grey so only suited to WW1 or Early WW2. Also the Olive Drab in their standard colours although on the light side is much better than the Olive Drab in their US Armour Colours section. Paul
  12. Hi Just to confirm Xtracolor Matt Varnish XDFF is an Enamel product I only ever airbrush this and mix it 50/50 with Humbrol or Hammerite Enamel Thinners although any oil based paint thinner will do and that includes white spirit, even cellulose thinner will work but might be too hot for the plastic or the seals in your airbrush. Paul
  13. Hi I have some of the more expensive cutters, both Xuron and the even more expensive Tamiya, my LMS is asking for £27 for Tamiya cutters, but the best ones I have ever used are the Trumpeter ones, they have a very shallow cutting angle which allows them to do a very fine cut, I have even used them with success cutting clear sprue which is notoriously brittle. Paul
  14. Hi I use enamels a lot in my modelling and mainly use Humbrol but will also use Revell for certain colours, both Brush Painted and Airbrushed and I must say I have never had any issue with either brand, as long as its thinned and thinned with the proper thinner I find I get excellent results with both. Paul
  15. Hi I am an Enamel user so only use Xtracolor Flat and Gloss varnishes and their flat is the best I have ever used as fell, dead flat without any of the usual graying that most other flats can suffer from paul
  16. Hi Everyone is going to push their own brush and for obvious reasons So saying that I use 3 airbrushes, a Badger 155 which is great for when large quantities of paint is needed as its a syphone feed brush and will take large bottles of paint, although it also takes a small side cup for smaller amounts of paint if needed, I also have an Iwata Revolution CR which gets used mainly for Priming or base coating and for very fine work I use a Badger 100-F-G which give fantastic results and is a joy to use. End of the day the choice is yours just be careful keeping up with the Jones's that can get expensive and you might end up with a brush that is too good for what you want and end up with even more problems. Paul
  17. Hi If doing the Caunter Scheme as said above trackpads do a set and if you like enamels xtracolor also do a caunter set. you could also do them in Pale stone 61 with a dark olive disruptive scheme as well as caunter for the latter part of the North African Campaign Again http://www.mafva.net/other%20pages/Starmer%20camo.htm list all the various colours used and the Humbrol mixes needed. Paint blow

Hi I have Four Modelzones in my Area, Maidstone, Bluewater, Lakeside and Romford and out of those four only Maidstone ever stocked Vallejo, its a shame if they stop selling them as I find it better just browsing for what I want and picking up Colours that might come in use. If I have to go mail order I only buy what I need and nothing extra. Good job I am happy painting with Humbrol as I may just fully go over to them. Paul
  19. I find it odd how over the years both Paasche and badger both American Manfactures have fallen out of flavour, in the 70's when airbrushing was all the rage in the Custom car world just about every custom artist used either a Paasche or a Badger brush, with the Badger 150 being the most popular, with the Badger 150 still being made today. Nowdays even with Badger making some superb brushes with the likes of the 100's, 105's and 155's they are hardly ever mentioned. I wonder why especialy as they are often Half the price of Iwata brushes which are not twicw as good as Badger brushes. Paul The owner of 2 Iwata brushes and 2 Badger brushes.
  20. Hi I use one that looks exactly like one of the Hold & Fold Tools, I say it looks like a Hold & Fold as I bought it new from the USA and it was Half the price of the Hold & Fold version, which made me think either Hold & Fold rip us off with their prices or someone in the USA is copying them and making a damed good job as I have sat it side by side with a full price genuine Hold and fold and I cannot tell the difference. I suppose there is a third option and that is that someone who works for Hold & Fold or their supplier if they don't actualy make them themselves is making a few on the side for themselves. I wont post a link, just incase they are of dodgy origin, but they can be found on eBay.com. eBay the home of counterfit goods. Paul
