  1. I'm with the op on this, it's something which has occurred to me in the past. By providing conformative screens on the inside skin of the passenger compartment with an appropriately placed camera looking outside and feeding it the passenger gets all the benefits of large (limitless I suppose) window and the manufacturer does not have to worry about the increased weight and strength required by windows. Theoretically you could skin the whole the passenger compartment for that flying feeling when sitting in your seat and nothing around you just sky and clouds! Thunderstorms would look spectacular and the views only enjoyed by those with window seats could be enjoyed by everyone. Camera trickery like placing cameras under the wings could remove them from sight so increasing viewing pleasure and if needs be cabin staff would have full control over their use, and if the crew were worried about something on the aircraft then all those small cameras would allow them, potentially, a view around the outside of the whole airframe. Imagine how less confined you'd feel if by looking up you saw the sky and stars, looking down you could see the ground, look around to see sky, clouds, other aircraft et etc, all fantastic in my book. Not to everyone's taste I know.
  2. Jaw droppingly brilliant & a superb finish to boot.
  3. looks an excellent result to me from a far from easy kit. to post pics use the [ img ] [ /img ] tags with spaces removed and the address of the image between the tags - you can also use the button between the insert link and insert email buttons
  4. Whilst 1 or 4 IMO would make for a more realistic in service aircraft, 3 would make for a more interesting model - perhaps it's that years display aircraft? It got my vote anyway.
  5. Much better result than my first build! Well done Josh!
  6. BW Models AFAIAA all come without decals so these will need to be purchased separately.
  7. Oi! I resemble that remark! Seriously that's a nice looking Spit' Paul (underscale) Davies
  8. Thanks all so far, very helpful, should reduce the amount of looking up we need to do. Walrus - The research is a means to an end rather than an end in itself but I certainly don't mind sharing what we have at the end, you never know we may have enough to create an article for the likes of Military Aircraft Monthly. Thanks again. Paul
  9. Hi All, Hope someone will be able to help me identify where this pic is taken from, it's part of some research into Harrier field deployments a friend and me are doing. Thanks Paul.
  10. I've been watching this for some time now, almost since it started and have to say very well done Skii, that really is a first rate model. Right then, what's next
  11. Hi Dean, Great build, not sure if this would work but you could paint the FOD covers white and then print red on to transparent decal sheet with the white of the lettering being transparent? You would just need to trim the decal to fit the FOD cover. must say I'm bit fired up to tackle my B.2 after reading some of these. Cheers Paul
  12. Have to say great work, especially that prop, I'm now inclined to have a dig through the stash for something with an unpainted wooden prop....
  13. Can't really add to what has already been said but I would just like to say that you have produced a lovely, wonderful model. Congratulations and well done.
  14. Blimey! Excellent collection. So where do you keep the wine????
  15. Thanks for the replies everyone - Have to say the Special Hobby option looks favourite to me but Paddy's article has got me thinking(I've only had chance to skim read it so far so will need to return), I think I may have to to some more research with Harold down the pub later (That's my excuse) - He certainly remembers the Vc as when he mentioned North Africa I brought up the subject of the large chin filter which he told me was a pain from a maintenance point of view. Thanks again and if any one knows of any more 242 Sqn references (books, magazine articles or on-line) I would be very grateful. Cheers Paul
  16. Hi Everyone, Hoping I can pull the collective knowledge of Britmodellers to help in an up-coming project. I've recently found out that one of the regular old guys in my local is an ex engine fitter who spent a large amount of the war with 242 sqn. He's a Merlin man and speaks of it with great affection and is happy to speak of his experiences during the war but at the same time is very down to earth, he just did what he was told... His 90th is towards the end of the year and I've decided I would like to build him a model. - and here lies the problem... I am certain that after 70 years memory is not what it was so I'm guessing he's a little confused over certain things but this is what I have:- He tells me he joined 242 prior to the BoB and served with them throughout - but only worked on Spitfires and never worked under Bader? 242 used Hurricanes during the BoB, and under Bader. He can recall Singapore, a time in Scotland and North Africa but has never been to Malta ? He has a Campaign medal for Italy (this I think is correct The Salerno Landings were supported by 242) and I thought from Malta - Although thinking about it that seems a bit far. Anyway -- He loves Spit's and Merlins so I would like to make the Best 242 Sqn North African Spit I can in 1:48th with engine showing (he loves spits, but Merlins are more important) I've dredged the net and have a few items of interest, quite a few things that seem contradictory and others that appear to be just wrong. What would be the best way of achieving my aim? I would really appreciate any help and I'm sure Harold will to. Can anyone help with 242 sqn references, especially North Africa and recommend kits and upgrades? Thanks Paul
  17. That is very nice, I don't suppose there's a build thread anywhere is there?
  18. Ah, thanks for that, it seems they are hard to get in the UK, where do you get yours from? (if you don't mind me asking)
  19. To my eye those colours are spot on, can I ask what paints you used? Cheers Paul
  20. That looks very nice. I have one in the stash and was a bit down about it because it was not as good as I remembered it (from about 30 years ago ) but seeing yours has given me hope! well done, very nice finish.
  21. Voted yes to all 3 but as has been mentioned the V trio in 144 would be great
  22. really enjoyed watching the build on this, and a superb result, well done
  23. I've been looking for a 1:144th scale lightning for some time now for a diorama I'd like to make based on a photograph but can't seem to find any. Mind you if this is anything to go by I'm not likely to!
  24. Thanks for the effort everyone it's very much appreciated. I'll see how well I can blow up that last photo and see if that does the job (although his eyesight isn't getting any better!) , but if anyone has any further info\photo's from red flag (77 or 78) I would also appreciate it as I'm finding it an interesting subject. Cheers Paul
