  1. Nice Attacker, but were they really so bad? Or just a victim of the fast pace of development? Even the est aircraft of the period did not stick around for very long....White heat and all that. Steve
  2. Looks like a JP3 next year on the Airfix website. Probably already mentioned elsewhere on this site.
  3. Just as the title says. Looks like it will be nice for next year. I have built a few 1/48 scale P40's of various marks by various companies, Trumpeter, Mauve, old Airfix, Acadamy, a horrible Revell one, etc.. The market seems to be well catered for, but I am sure with the level of detail it is likely to get, it will be well received. Cheers Steve
  4. Well, I was impressed enough to consider doing a second one with some aftermarket enhancements. But then I am only doing it for fun to while away the evenings whilst the soaps are on - I do not even have a spray gun! Which means I might do a 'What if' and please myself : ) Cheers
  5. I did actually find a picture of a Korean War T33 with different underwing tip tanks like those fitted to the F80. So it would seem that although they can be removed, they rarely were, probably due to reduction in endurance. I hope Acadamy get round to releasing other versions - especially the RT, as the nose on that looks quite attractive in an odd sort of way..... I would have both the RT and AT. Cheers
  6. Well, the RT33 was a single seater T33, but the nose shape was very different. Quite distinctive - not sure I would be able to scratch build one though. I thnk the easier thing to do would be just to put in the guns for an AT-33 - say of the Mexican Air Force - I have seen decals for that - but the aircraft will have to be clean. As for tip tanks - looks like they were permanent - have not seen a T33 without them.
  7. Thanks Giorgio, I will do some further invest. AT33 and RT33. Cheers Rev. light
  8. I am currently building this kit in its current format - USAF grey overall trainer.. However I notice that there are some options in the kit for other versions - perhaps Armed. There are two inserts for gun ports The wings can have hard points - probably 4 rockets on each wing - but nothing is provided. There is some 'gubbins' supplied on the sprues that look like it fills the rear cokpit instead of the seat - some boxes, etc. There is an extra large/wide jet pipe that looks as if it will not fit in the fuselage. So I suppose the questions are: Did Acadamy ever do a different armed version of this kit? Could it be that the sprues in the kit can be used for a F80/P80 Shooting Star or a Starfire kit? Who operated T33's in an armed capacity? Can decals be sourced for them? Was there ever a single seat version of the T33 that was not a P80/F80? Was the T-bird ever flown without the massive tip tanks? I prefer the look of the plane without 'a la' F80 - but the kit does not provide wing tips. Nice kit - although I did have problems mating the wings to the fuselage. Cheers Rev. Light
  9. I would love to see the look on thier faces when they pull out a load of worn out Mohawks, Brewsters, Hurricanes and Vengeances. Now that would be interesting
  10. We are comparing a mildly flawed £17 injection molded kit with a £45 resin kit? I am disappointed that there are obvious flaws that have been pointed out and I am thankful that the flaws have been highlighted. But as much as I would like to be able to push the boat out for the top notch kit, I know it just will not happen. I cannot justify it. I for one will be trying a Trumpeter offering, when one crosses my path. Having just completed the Attacker and Sea Hawk, one thing I do know, it will go together well, and will need very limited filling. So the only thing I need to think about is putting right the more obvious limitations, which will be done for half the price of the Resin kit. So I could do two? Some of us just have to cut our cloth....
  11. I am very pleased with the 1/72. And would have a passing interest in the Javelin if it were not for the price....Bit steep for me. Looks like I will have to wait for Trumpeter to bring out the next post war British warplane to suit my purse.
  12. I used black over silver. Before the black had hardened I scraped a bit off the edges and areas of wear to uncover the silver underneath. It seemed to work well with my Trumpeter Attacker.
  13. Okay I have just read a few build reports on the Fury. I will still build it, But forwarned is forarmed.
  14. I am doing the Attacker now and am enjoying it. The fit is good and so is the detail. But there is still room for the superdetailer - brakepipes, looms and pipes etc, It looks like an Attacker to me, but I have not got out any plans or micrometers. But what is wrong with the Fury - i have one in my stash and was looking to do that next.
  15. I like it. The detail is good. The fit is good. It Looks like an Attacker - although I am not one for getting the plans out. I have one small sink mark on one of the canons - easily filled. There seems to be little or no flash and it fits well together. Wont be much filler. But the sprue gates seem to be overly large on the larger parts and require a bit of cleaning up - and this is where the filler might be required if you are a little heavy handed with the soft plastic like me. On the face of it, the equal of the Hawkier Seahawk kit. Look forward to the Swift (you can dream) Cheers
  16. 23 pages! What did I start here - its a monster!
  17. So I have my Trumpeter Attacker on the go and I looking at the colours to paint the wheel bays etc, I am not folding the wings. I recall there being a thread about this before, but it was slightly inconclusive....... I did manage to view a colour 'walk round' in t'interweb of the Attacker at the Fleet Air Arm Museum. However, it is a bit of a mixture: It has what looks like recently painted 'cockpit green' main wheel bays, It has a 'chromate yellow' tail wheel bay. The internal parts of one wing fold is the 'chromate yellow' again on one side and the other a silver/aluminium colour. The kit says silver/aluminium.......ish, with the legs Sky. So did we ever come to a concensus with this? Or is it age related, I.e. it was a different colour depending on when the picture was taken - Not that the Attacker was in service for long. So what colour was it when it was delivered. And what colour was it painted the next time it was serviced. Where they even in service long enough for a full repaint? Ae we comparing Apples with Oranges when we compare a similar aged Hawker a/c to a similar aged Supermarine? Did the Navy have a preference? Cheers
  18. I have one as well, and when comparing the surface detail to the 'most of a falcon kit' I also have, at first glance the trumpeter looks streets ahead. I know which will be built first. Although I might take the opportunity to build them side by side, to help with the detailing of the Falcon Kit which might be done wheels up.......hmmm
  19. I did - fantastic. Always liked this a/c after reading about it in the 'Bloody Shambles' series of Books....
  20. I had one of these and I did waste some time adding more detail, I even started to paint it externally.....But I lost the plot and it ended up in the garden as a target for the air rifle.....Some of us never grow up...Or even pretend to!
  21. Very good.. As mentioned above, the Fins flew quite a menagerie..... For now I will stick to the more common types of a/c used in the Winter War, the Continuation War and immediately afterward i.e till the end of Hostilities. To that end, I will complete the Polikarpov i-153 in Finnish colours, but the i-16 I have on the desk, I will not, as they only seemed to have captured a small number, and although they seem to have tested them extensively, they did not turn them against the Ruski's like they did with the i-153s. Although they did have quite a few UTI's. Same sort of thing goes for the Hawk 75 and the Warhawk. They only captured 1 Warhawk (P40M) but they operated many ex-French Hawk 75s. And the Rocs do not even come into the equasion at all. And I will stick to 1/72 - although I do have a complete 1/48 Special Hobbies Brewster Buffalo in Finnish colours that I will use as reference for converting an Airfix Brewster or two. At least this way I can keep a lid on things.
  22. What would be nice is a 'Finland at War' decal sheet with an example of each of the more common types on it. It would save me a fortune!
  23. What have I done - an exhaustive list. I will start with the favourites - i.e. front line fighters, where there are enough examples of which to equip a whole squadron. Followed by some of the more interesting close support/ground attack varients. Individual captured airframes can wait for a while.
