  1. When I got back into the hobby seriously about 15 years ago, I initially got sucked into all this "accuracy" stuff and would fret about minor dimensional issues and all the rest of it. Over time though I grew somewhat cynical about it all. It struck me that 90% of it is probably just willy-waving on the part of folks who just want to flaunt their own (real or imagined) "expert" credentials (interesting and educational though it may be sometimes). And it dawned on me that unless you can be bothered crawling all over a kit with calipers, micrometers and sundry other measuring instruments, you're probably going to remain blissfully unaware anyway about any "fatal flaws" (😄) that a particular kit might have, because it's highly unlikely that *anyone* will notice them using just the Mk. 1 eyeball. So these days I add detail for more realism, and I'll seek out the best kit I can find in terms of engineering & fit. And if the consensus is that it's "accurate" as well, then that's an added bonus. And if something is so way off that even I can tell at first glance that it's a turkey, I'll avoid it. But essentially I just build "out of the box" these days (aforementioned detailing aside). And yaknow what ...... NO-ONE has ever pulled me up about "accuracy" at a club or a show or on the rare occasions that I've posted builds online (rubbish photographer that I am). Steve
  2. There's your next "what-if" project right there!
  3. I'm trying to take a glass half full approach to this. The words "temporarily closed" in the holding notice on the web site leave some room for optimism I think. I wouldn't stake my pension on it, but hope that I am right.
  4. As phony as a glass eye I reckon.
  5. Another one bites the dust ... http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/product?productid=3087
  6. Do I take it then that you either have (1) a very large man-cave (2) a very tolerant and understanding wife or (3) both?! 😁😁
  7. "Thank you" and "WETA" are words that are not very often seen together in the same sentence.
  8. My Camel / LVG "Duellists" boxing that I ordered from Duncan on Sunday arrived on Tuesday. Unbelievable service, and definitely the way forward for me now with WNW.
  9. I think that Wingnuts scored a spectacular own goal when they invited Weta to the party.
  10. Order placed with "Black Mike" aka Duncan for the "Duelists" Camel boxing this afternoon, and received confirmation within a couple of hours that it's already on its way. On a Sunday afternoon! Now THAT is what I call service!
  11. A few guys in the States have managed to get hold of some, but the whole delayed availability issue surrounding these Camels has been nothing short of farcical. Makes you hanker for the good old days of ordering direct from WNW: Order confirmed same day, posted out usually within a couple of days, kits in yer mits within around 3 weeks. The free postage was another bonus of course but I could even have lived without that in order to still get the same level of service now. And involving Weta in the food chain has been a disaster.
  12. An expensive experience! I'm sure it'll be a nice kit though.
  13. You are clearly very sensible and possess great self-control. Most of us just see something we like, buy it and only worry about where it's going to go once it's built!
  14. The constant pushing-back of the release date makes me suspect that all is not well at WNW. Also they always used to be keen to show at least some of the things they had "in development". Now though, nothing. I would not be surprised if this were to prove to be their last-ever release (some may be generous and count it as 6 releases, but for me it's 6 boxings of the same subject). Although I would be more than happy to be proved wrong.
  15. The saga seems to get more farcical by the day.
  16. Prices: The only way is up! Hannants: Some consolation for them just replacing the $ sign with a £ sign. Price war: One can but hope, but I wouldn't bet my mortgage on it.
  17. The run-up to Christmas was the best time for that. Post Office depot so full that stuff would just get waved through in order to keep the backlog down.
  18. I haven't bought any WNW kits since Weta have been added to the food chain, and from what I'm reading here it all looks like a bit of a dog's breakfast. Makes me all nostalgic for the days when you could order direct, postage was free and - last but not least - the kits were still a relative steal. Yes 9 times out of 10 you'd get stung for tax and the "handling fee", but at least the ordering process was all pretty straightforward without any of this middle-man nonsense.
  19. What-iffery. For some guys, the fact that a particular vehicle (or aircraft) was only a one-off, a mock-up, a blueprint or even just a rough idea sketched out on the back of a fag packet is part of the appeal, and thus a major selling point. Good examples being the E-series of German "1946" armour, or "Luftwaffe '46" aircraft. Not everyone's cup of tea, but then wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same thing?!
  20. Okay now we REALLY need one of these badgers in styrene! Are you listening, Meng & Takom?! http://www.warhistoryonline.com/military-vehicle-news/britains-weirdest-tank-ever_independent-a1e1-x.html?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=postplanner&utm_source=facebook.com
  21. I missed the LVG first time round, and it's one that I'd like to build (but not badly enough to pay the "collector" prices it's attracted since going OOP). So I reckon I'll be springing for the Duellist boxing. Plus maybe one other "for a rainy day".
