  1. 79 Sqn had white tailed VC's. Kits World do 1/32 scale decals for their Mk VIII Spitfires which could perhaps be adapted for a VC (?). You may need to source some 8" characters for the serial but these are around. PR
  2. Thank you so much guys. That is fantastic info. I have lashed out and bought the book (hard cover - thanks for the tip) The Unlucky General info is absolutely priceless - that has answered so many questions for this newby - thank you. I feel a work in progress coming on (another! have also started an HMS Victory - Airfix, and now a 10th Hussar - also Airfix, and a Merc. Oh dear, I have an illness! ) Really appreciate your guidance, thank you. PR
  3. Thanks mate. I've had a go at using different google and noticed this book was mentioned. I'll see if I can track it down. There seems to be a few different interpretations of uniform, perhaps back to what was suggested regards each person getting their own kit, so slightly different colours, etc. PR
  4. Thanks gentlemen, appreciate the guidance. I'll follow those ideas up. Thanks too for the heads up regards the uniform variations. I think I am guilty of applying modern day thinking so it's great to get such first hand experience. Makes sense when you think about it - certainly takes the pressure off a bit! 🙃 PR
  5. Thank you very much Sir! My google efforts didn't find this one, much appreciated! PR
  6. I want to do several mounted figures from Waterloo, including a British 10th Hussar and a Brunswick Hussar. Can anyone recommend a good reference source for uniform details and colours? I am currently building the Airfix 54mm 10th Hussar and finding several conflicting sources. The colours suggested by Airfix in the kit are quite colourful but don't seem to be fully supported by other sources (?) - how accurate are they? Thanks for any assistance, PR
  7. Great information mate, thank you for sharing. PR
  8. Brilliant job on the wear and tear there Tony, amazing work! It looks spot onto me. Another option I have seen is to use Vaseline, but not sure about that one. Blutac a nice option. PR
  9. Pretty sure green is the consensus of opinion for the spinner, Tony, but Pete M is the expert here, as you suggest. I thought I had access to info to confirm for you; I'm sure there was a post about this plane, but my Google foo is letting me down and I'm away from home just now. May be a post on Aussie Modeller (Pete visits there too, and there are other RAAF a/c experts on board) if you are not in too much of a hurry. (Given your build is going so quickly) PR
  10. Hi Tony Two downward lights under wings, one each side. You can just make them out on the Tamiya instructions, outboard of the roundels. You're inspiring me to start my Tamiya kit, great work, really looks the part! PR
  11. Just had a good look at the pics you posted earlier, and the wing plan re: fuel tanks. Need to find an embarrassed emoji! Loving your work with this kit. PR
  12. Nice job Tony! Have you also included the downward identification lights in the lower wings? These are visible in the wing plan posted earlier. Also, the downward identification light in the belly needs to be moved back towards the tail for a Mk VIII. If you have scribed the wing tanks, these have filler points - sorry, don't have plans to hand to illustrate. Cheers PR
  13. Some of the best information and explanation for this elusive colour I have read. Thank you for the post, and thank you Nick for the info. PR
  14. Hi Michael These Blenheim were attached to 54 OTU. As you rightly point out, the pilots rotated through to familiarise themselves before transitioning to Beaufighters. Curiously, pilots have Blenheim flights noted for both January and December 1941, as well as copious Anson flights. PR PS I agree with you regards late 1941 date for the picture of the Blenheim. This aircraft was identified by some Squadron aircrew as one they trained on before moving on to Beaufighters (with the usual precaution here regards memory)
  15. Looking at the new Airfix B-17 instructions I notice there is no colour call out for the tail wheel well, part no G29. Does anyone know what this should be? From its shape it looks like it could be canvas, but could equally be pressed metal (?). PR
  16. Kev, thank you for the conversions. Very helpful. PR
  17. Interesting suggestion Will. Not sure monofiliment would give the right effect. Or would it? PR
  18. Ken, Gordon Olive build is a long term effort using the 1/32 Hasegawa kit. Very looooong term..... Looks like your build will be quicker. Great further info Bob. Nice work with the serial no. - a good guesstimate guide. PR
  19. Thanks Kev Appreciate the advice. Looks like I will be replacing my stock! Cheers PR
  20. I am doing some basic research on my Victory build and I read that it is recommended to run rigging over bees wax to help preserve the thread and I guess prevent fraying, stray wisps, etc. But the question then is how do you glue lines together, such as in the ratlines (I think that's the term, the 'ladders' running up each mast). I am also pondering gluing lines to blocks as I am building in 1/180 (the Airfix kit). Wouldn't the wax prevent adherence of the lines? PR
  21. Hi Ken Back home now and able to check info. I posed a similar question back around June 2013 re: the u/c retraction. Edgar replied that (as Bob has pointed out above) the date of change over is something of a mystery but that there was an amendment dated April 1940. He indicated that there were reports of aircraft using the original system throughout the BoB (also in line with Bobs reply). It looks like you are right to use the old unit based on this information. The gunsight is a funny one. Looking at replies from earlier posts here it seems the reflector sights were first ordered in 1937 and installed in Gladiators in 1938 but early Spitfires clearly have ring and bead sights fitted. This has been attributed to delays in supply. If this were my model I'd go with ring and bead for April '39. Hope the build goes well! Cheers PR
  22. I am away from home at present so can't double check, but I do recall the undercarriage retraction mechanism was changed around May 1940, so fitting the earlier set up would be appropriate for your model. I am looking to build a Mk I around the time of Dunkirk and unsure which one to fit. PR
  23. Not into sci-fi too much, but as an admirer of your builds, very keen to see how you tackle this Jim! A very innovative start. PR
