  1. Damn this is a great forum. Only hope I remember to not use the Mbox NF14 nose when I finally get around to building one :-) David
  2. Another option is the way I went. I use my compressor to fill a portable air tank in the garage. Then I take the tank to the modelling bench and just use the tank until it's empty. Mine is a 10 gallon tank from Canadian Tire ($30), is safe up to 135psi and holds enough to do many coats on a 1/72 jet (say an F-14 size). David W.
  3. Apparantly it will include an SAAF decal option. It would be great if it also included SAAF larger drop tanks! David
  4. Now that's a great idea - using the aluminium to get nice square cut windows and minimize the thickness of the fuselage wall. What did you glue it in with? Did you have to make an inner frame to set the aluminium flush with the rest of the fuselage? David
  5. Small one and description here: http://www.vectorsite.net/avval.html David
  6. Brings back lots of memories but I never saw one done that well before - nice job David
  7. Dogsbody and RossM - argh, so it is another to add to my build list of RAF and FAA in 'D' or later roundels!!! Rossm, thanks for info on turrets. I'll have to find get the Warpaint book, I guess. David
  8. Please tell me it wasn't carrying 'D' type roundels. (If it was, it's another I need to add to my build list). David
  9. Don't see that built often and you have done a great job on it. WOW - casting in metal. I'd never dare try that. And your wife is right. It looks very 'cute'. David
  10. The RN ones were Extra Dark Sea Grey uppers and white lowers although the Extra Dark Sea Grey seemed to fade fairly quickly and then had a blueish tinge. I believe they were painted gloss - but again, that weathered to semi-matt fairly quickly. David W.
  11. Try here: http://www.72scale.com/aircraft/BAC/BAC167.htm and http://www.geocities.com/jetnetuk/jetprovost.htm and http://www.warbirdalley.com/strike.htm Not sure you'd see any external difference except wing hard points and u/c based on these sites but I'm sure somebody here will be able to speak definitievly on this for you David
  12. Lovely job - on both kits and on the Hawk display base too! David
  13. Great job. Nifty little design (I presume from the Kingston boys) and you have made a superb model of it. Congrats David
  14. Lovely - I always had a soft spot for Tristars. So much more attractive a plane than the DC-10 that rivalled it. Shame it wasn't a bigger seller for Lockheed. David
  15. A thing of great beauty. Great whatif idea (just close enough to reality for my taste) very well executed. Well done David
  16. That's a coincidence, I was just perusing the one in my stash the other day thinking it might be a fun (?) build. (I am re-discovering my stash which, with all our household belongings, has just come out of 3 years storage in a warehouse in New Hampshire!) I didin't know there was some doubt as to the accuracy of the scale. I assume you found this article? http://www.xs4all.nl/~designer/models/proto/protobrit2.htm David
  17. I don't think there's any available. When I did mine years ago, I did the version with a single red arrow on a white rectangle and just cut the arrow from red decal sheet. Nowadays you could probably print it on white decal or get some made. Last year I had some decals made by Paul Parkes for an F-111B and they were very good if you want to get them made. David
  18. What's going on with the upper wing leading edges / tips on that Alpha Jet - they're not black are they? What are they? White? And, if so, where's the demarcation lines - anybody got a top view :-) David
  19. Thanks for posting. Are there only USAF decals in the box? No foreign operators (I know Xtradecal offer those)? Does it offer the option to build it wheels up? David
  20. PS. any chance of bigger pics, please? 2 or 3 times bigger would be enough methinks David
  21. Looking a really good build. I applaud you taking this one on and am intrigued by how Rareplanes moulded the fuselage in clear. What did you use to glue the fuselage together? I have a couple of old vacs that are moulded similarly (e.g. Britavia Dragonfly) and am nrevous about what glue to use. David
  22. Oh WOW! It's wonderful to think of them being resurrected (albeit briefly) to a frontline role. Thanks David
  23. Lovely little thing! Two questions - what did you use for decals and how did you make the blade tie downs? David
