  1. Lovely builds there sweaty1, can't find anything to criticise myself ☺
  2. HI All, Jessica - I usually do as you suggest but lost my patience with this one as I had already messed up one cockpit hood, also the raised frames are very unobvious on the moulding. Consider my wrist slapped !! Knight flyer - Thanks for that....I have always guessed....is their any 'rule of thumb' with this(in mm etc)?
  3. Thanks for the comments all, actually the tanks and a couple of panels were done with the new Vallejo metal colour, seems pretty good, a bit more forgiving than Alclad.☺
  4. Hi again Folks, My latest offering is Airfix's new tool Mustang, lovely kit, no real fit issues. Finish is Alclad duralumin with the gun hatches in Alclad A/F Aluminium, which always comes out dark for me...gunmetally. Lost a part u/c strut but airfix sent me a new one out FOC which was brill of them. Interior is standard(Vallejo model air Zinc chromate) apart from some 'superfabric' belts by eduard. Wished I'd painted the behind spinner red instaed of decal as it looks a bit rough. I haven't really weathered it because I don't know where to stop and was fairly pleased with the NMF. Enjoy and comment please.
  5. Many thanks for the positive comments guys, I was afraid the photos were a little unflattering!!
  6. HI Folks I'm here again with my latest build, the unusually camouflaged P-47M. This is a pretty good kit and went together well. I have read the various theories regarding the coloursused but decided on VMA signal blue for the dark, and VMA Azure fior the lighter blue. The other blue on the tail was a 50/50 mix of VMA blue & white. Once again I was disapointed with the Alclad airframe aluminium finish(more like gunmetal) which I'm again putting down to my lack of prep work and impatience. This meant I repainted the wing leading edges with humbrol metalcote(not that impressed with the stuff). PS: sorry about the picnic table again !!!
  7. Thanks all for the comments !!
  8. Hi again Folks, Here's my latest effort, this has taken me nearly six weeks on and off and to be frank it was a bit of a dog(but it's an old kit I suppose) Poor fit in places Awful, awful decals raised panel lines It started life as a Belgian air force example, but because the crappy, brown paper backed decals disntegrated I shifted to the qinetic version. I have tried to capture the shabby, patchy finish on these jets when they first 'came over' from Luftwaffe service. Excuse the awful wing joints....I'm rubbish at filling. PS: I know that qinetic AJ's have not been seen with aux tanks(I think) but I could not resist hanging something there Comments welcome
  9. After seeing this can't wait to start on the one in my stash(Aldi starter set again) top marks. PS: Also picked up from Aldi.....Mustang IV and Spitfire I (good value, even if you bin the airfix paints !!)
  10. Puts my last Gazelle to shame, well done
  11. Thanks for the comments, can't bring myself to ditch the HF aerial at this stage These kits can be sometimes found on ebay but personally I think you should chuck in the extra cash and get one of the newer Airfix offerings(I have a late seafire in the stash to be done later this year) It's now the 'smelly paint' season as I can spray in the shed now it's warmer........so more Alclad stuff etc from me soon !!!
  12. Hi Folks Thanks for the comments thus far. Spitfire 31: I checked out the spitfire site and was going to leave out the main aerial, but I had conflicting info as some pics(probably wrongly) show that particulatr a/c with a HF aerial, so I thought might be because he's a wing co. But you have confirmed my suspicions, see this: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234919118-johnny-kents-spitfire-mkvb-photo-needed/ I have just noted some disturbing additions to this post !!!!!!
  13. Hi again Folks, I've just finished this fairly ancient Fujimi 1/48 Spit V which as usual I picked up for a song on fleabay. A bit crude to say the least....you get get a radio hatch on each side !!!! no cockpit detail to speak of(canopy doesn't open anyway) but I pit some airwaves harnesses in anyway, my first time with photo-etch. The IFF aerials forced me to butcher the elevators a little, but on the whole I enjoyed the build, next time though I'll try the newer airfix offerings or maybe eduard. The paints are Vallejo Model air which I love, sometimes you have to mix your own colours though, which is easy with their dropper bottles: Green...012 Dark Earth........Dk Earth 029/white 001, 3 to 1 Sky.......... US light grey 045/white001, 1 to 1 Feel free to comment PS This is Wing Cdr Kent's personal ride, hence his initials as codes.
  14. As usual I bought this cheap on fleabay(no box) and being of a certain age the f-16 seems a faily modern aircraft to me, however this is an Airfix offering from circa 1985 and has poor tooling with 'raised panty lines', very dodgy undercarraige, etc. There were three decal options I chose a NY ANG example from Gulf One. This kit seemed to take ages and I'm not particularly pleased with the results. 1) I screwed up the painting by not bringing the Dark Grey part forward enough, meaning I was forced to use the high viz warning decals(although I believe some a/c carried these anyway). 2) Undercarraige was a nightmare just seemed like some random bits of sprue . On the plus side I experimented with Future and coffee to get a smoke glass conopy(only vaguely vivsble on these shots, but will use again in the future(no pun intended) Used Vallejo model air(mostly) with an Iwata Neo and have tried to get a beat up, stained, wartime feel about the a/c Feel free to comment.....I'm not expecting any bouquets
  15. Marvellous...........absolutely marvellous
  16. Hi again Folks Here's my latest offering, this is, without doubt, a unique model. Story is I bought an Academy 109G on ebay. when I opened the box I found: 1) A Hasegawa 109F with instructions and some critical wing parts missing and no decals 2)A partially made Fujimi 109 fuselage with cockpit detailing and decals but no instructions 3)An Academy 109 minus the fuslage no decals So, I used the hasegawa fuselage(with the details from the Fujimi cockpit) and fitted the academy wings. Still with me !!! I have a Revell 109F in the stash with two sets of decals, so robbed one of those with the stencils from the Fujimi sheet was able to produce Hans 'Assi' Hahn's machine from JG2. Hope you like it....I'm quite pleased with the result....but feel free....
  17. congrats, superb model, brush painted.....impressed !!!
  18. As has been said low-viz grey schemes are hard to make appealing, but you have done a great job here.
  19. I agree with the smell issues, luckily I spray outside in the shed..........I;m thinking of making some kind of mini spray booth for the winter though.....acrylics only !!!
  20. Thanks, It's nice paint to work with, used the black gloss primer underneath......as has been said before it's very unforgiving on a poor surface finish.
  21. Hi Folks, I decided to have a go at Alclad so I chose a cheap kit which I wouldn't regret ruining...Hence the Revell P-51D, it's a right dog of a kit Didn't photograph the underside as massive gaps I couldn't be bothered to fill, spent more time on the cockpit than I should really. Quite pleased with the Alclad on first inspection but I must have had something noxious on my fingers(possibly meths) so got a few dodgy patches where I'd handled it. Happy with my painted invasion stripes though. If you squint a little and dim the lights it's got the vague shape of a Mustang Even had some stress marks on the plastic that the paint wouldn't cover. Glad I've got the new Airfix offering in the stash !!
  22. Was last December I think Jockney they had some 109's as well, perhaps they will do the same this Christmas
