Thought I'd share my latest build with you all. This is an Airfix Hawk in 1/48 with the 19 sqdn spitfire anniversary commemorative livery(xtradecal). Basically out of the box: It's a slightly crude kit for a 1/48 scale but it looks like a Hawk(to me) at the end of the day. Main problems were fitting of the blast screen after assembly and the usual wing root and engine intake filling chores. Paint was Vallejo MA 017(green) and the dark earth was a mix of VMA 26 & 29(50:50). Silver was Humbrol metalcote(mainly cause I had loads left over). I broke the pitot tube....as you do...so replaced it with a cut-down sewing needle. Not perfect by any means but I pretty pleased with it. I have another one in the stash destined for Royal Navy black. Cheers all, comments appreciated !! PS: Remember(unlike me) to fit the pylons on after the large underwing serial numbers.

Nice Hunter, in a challenging scheme -
Some time ago I bought a unboxed Rafale from Ebay for a pittance, not sure if it ever had any decals or I lost 'em. But to save wasting a kit I ended up buying some after market decals from Syhart(via Hannants). This is probably false economy as the decals cost about 3 times what I paid for kit , but anyway .......... The kits not bad actually with plenty of detail and goes together well. Decals sre superb and you could actualy build three examples from the decals supplied..........obviously I went for the one with the flashy tailfin(although you only get 2000ltr tanks with the kit which were not used on this example at Tigermeet, so some slight artistic licence there). Some of the stencils are like dust specks in this scale and a bit superfluous. Didn't bother with the missiles(as yet) Colour is a 50:50 mix of Vallejo MA 114 and 46, with a coating of Vallejo satin varnish(a bit on the glossy side I reckon) wash was lamp black oil paint and white spirit. Now all I need is someone to say "Is it 1/32" LOL All positive critique welcome Cheers, Saddler

Thanks for the comments and tips folks. Regarding the elevator under sides the truth is I forgot to remove the excess wash😯 loops. Cheers Saddler -
Hi Fellow Modellers, Not long since my last RFI but this was half done anyway, had to wait for a part from Revell(split in main canopy), fair play they sent one no problem but had to wait 6 weeks. Top marks to Revell for customer service though, not many firms do this now. Back to the model, bit of a long story this.......................This was purchased for a song on Ebay many months ago so around May this year started on it, I was going to build it with the cowling open to reveal the engine, guns etc. Imagine my surprise when I found that the engine was missing from the sprue, along with a few other parts I assume the ebayer who sold it(no record of who) must have re-sealed the bag after filching the bits for another project. Cowling closed then. Which was abit of a sod as it engine bits are integral with the mounting of the guns and the nose area !! But I got by sort of. Then found the split in the canopy Paints are Tamiya XF-23 light blue for the U/s and Tamiya XF-59 desert yellow for topsides, some panels were lightened with Vallejo MA mixes. Vallejo MA white and Tamiya yellow (Vallejo MA yellow just does not work) . Vallejo MC 886 for the RLM02 Not my best effort but it gave me so much grief I was glad to finish it. I believe it's the old ICM mold. PS: Note to self: I must find out how to do wing nav lights, not excusable in this scale As usual all constructive criticism and hints welcome !!

Thanks for the replies folks. I seem to be coming round to the theory that as there are no Aussie roundels underside then the Raf roundels would have been superfluous. At present that's the way I'm going. Cheers All. Saddler

Good idea !! I think I have some plain white lines from Hannants.......could try them on my 1/48 FRAD Hawk -
Hi Fellow Modellers, Can anyone help me with this? I've in the recent past purchased an Italeri Hawk 100, one of the options is the Hawk 126 in delivery markings as flown out of Warton(ZJ632). It has a mix of Aussie and UK markings(although the ones supplied are not 100% correct)From existing photos I know that it carried: RAF tail fin flash RAF roundels superimposed over the upper wing 'Kangaroos' However I do not have a photo of the underside........does anyone no if the underside was 'roos' or 'roundels' ?? Thanks. Saddler

Thanks for the comments and tips guys much appreciated -
Hi Again fellow modellers, it's been a few months since I posted on this forum; the last build being consigned to the 'shelf of doom'. So here goes with Airfix's rendition of a BAe Hawk Mk 1, I've built one before but it was the previous moulding, lacking in detail. I'm pleased with the result but there were a few headaches with fit on this kit: wing section needed filing down to fit , engine nacelles required filling, etc. Paint is Alclad Black Primer. which I found out is a bit of a dust magnet !! I may have 'overdone' the wing nav. lights a tad. Undercarraige was also a pain, does anyone have the same trouble as me with wheels/tyres?? Oh and those bl**dy tiny stencils..........took me about three hours in total to decal. And how do you reproduce the white(?) seal round the main canopy? Anyway all comments appreciated. Next up: Revell 1/48 Bf109F

Hi Folks, I bought this kit on an alcohol fueled ebay trip some time ago, BEFORE reading any reviews, which gave the impression that it was a swine to put-together. I'm glad to report that it wasn't as bad an experience as I expected, the worst being the two-part lower engine cowling and I think the air intake is wrong but that might be me as I hacked off the locating pin before fitting, the wingtips were not a good fit either, but hey, you pays yer money and all that...... Paint is Vallejo model air upper; Dark sea grey 048(now engine grey for dome reason) and Dark Green 012. A bit on the dark side I know Underside is Tamiya MSG Interior is a mix of VMA Zins chromate and VMA int.green and various bits. Wanted to give it a 'lived-in' look without going overboard on the weathering. On the whole I'm quite pleased.......but feel free to comment !!!! Cheers PS: Excuse the IKEA place mat
