  1. Nice build Mark, and I didn't know that Ultimate did a gloss black, Cheers !!
  2. Hi All and Seasons Greetings, My latest build is an Airfix 1/72 Tomahawk built virtually OOB apart from new wing gun barrels from 0.5mm brass tubing and some aerial wires from fishing line. This was a nice build with no major problems, bought it at Aldi about four years ago. The Azure and Dark Earth is Vallejo Model Air and the Middlestone is AmmoMig acrylic. some pastels and dilute colours were used for weathering. The photos unfortunately show how my canopy masking sucks 😪 Constructive comments welcome as usual !!! Next up Hasegawa SH-60B
  3. It's 1/72 Andre, I'll take that as a compliment 😉
  4. Hi Folks, Seems ages since I last posted....getting distracted with Facebook modelling sites I suppose. Here's my latest offering for what it's worth. A CAG super Hornet from Revell, OOB apart from a stick-on cockpit kit, and a Pavla canopy, as the original one was missing, built open as it didn't fit exactly. Nice build apart from the engine intakes. The large decals were difficult to bed down even with loads of microsol. .....and I've just noticed I left part of the ladder assembly off !! Constructive criticism welcome please 😀
  5. Magnificent, just the right amount of weathering !!
  6. Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone !!
  7. Hi Fellow Modellers, Bit of a gap between my last posting and now as two builds have not quite passed muster, but this one's just about good enough to publish IMHO. Nice kit actually, went together well with no real issues(apart from disintegrating decals). First real trial of my Iwata Revolution CR and I'm most impressed. Paints are Vallejo MA. Let me know what you think. PS: From my research there seems to be some disputed colours for the prop spinner, some sources say red & white, I went with the Black-green & white as per kit diagram. PS: I know my canopy framing sucks !! Cheers Nigel
  8. Early retirement has increased my build speed !! Here's a kit I've had in my stash for a couple of years. Went together quite well, straight from the box really. Paint was a bit of a mix Vallejo MA Barley grey+ white, I then tried some Mr.Hobby 334 Barley grey which seemed a bit weird to start with.....almost like varnish, seemed better on the second coat. Decals were ok to use but according to my research they are a little inaccurate. Pirate sensor was provided but not fitted till later in the aircraft's life I believe. Vallejo Satin varnish was the final quote. used some generic line decals for the AMRAAM stripes. I almost buggered this up at the last leg; after a gloss coat I decided to use some Vallejo Panel line wash, however it's apparently acrylic not enamel based so adhered to well to the outlying parts. In removing the excess I removed it from some panel lines inadvertently. Making a right-pig's ear of it . This accounts for the rather 'over-weathered' look for a prototype.....seems to be my trade mark of late. Anyway for good or bad, here it is !!: PS: It looks like PostImage has thrown a wobbler and the link addresses have changed to .cc suffix. I've changed previous posts to correct. What a ball ache
  9. You're right about the blades Joachim, individual blades(why they do this I don't know) and it probably is the wrong way round, the blades are not particularly well formed so I've probably cocked-up there. Bit too late to go back to that though, I'll put it down to experience and remember next time !!! *I'm also not a big fan of dark panel line washes IMHO they don't look realistic yet a lot of modellers seem to think it's mandatory
  10. Thanks for the accolades and comments folks. Happy Modelling 😁!!
  11. Hi again Folks, My latest finished product is the Italeri 1/72 Spitfire Vb, picked up box and decal-less on ebay for a song. The Italeri Spitfires are a cow to put together and this was no exception; it has a kink in the fuselage that just won't fix. used a small amount of PE in the pit from the airwaves spit mk1 set, which seemed to fit. Decals were from the Sky models Spitfire set and paint was Vallejo MA azure & mid stone and MIG dark earth. I held back on weathering for the most part. Let me know what you think. Cheers Nige.
  12. Congrats Garry C, good work, first P-51 ive seen on these pages with the 'correct' putty-filled panel lines on front wings
  13. Maybe the key is to use enamel then. Will try with my next hawk. Ta. .
  14. Thanks to all, will have a look at that interview Smithy.😁
  15. I read somewhere that you can basically brush some light grey acrylic paint into the recesses, leave it to dry and scrape off. In theory the paint in the recesses should stay put. Unfortunately it doesn't 🤔
  16. This had been in the stash for ages; the Airfix 'Design a Hawk' boxing picked up cheap, Midnight Hawks decals from a previous kit, also a knockdown PE kit from Hannants(Eduard made I believe}......what's not to like?? !!!LOADS!!! Firstly the kit is the early tool Airfix....one piece canopy, so won't see lovely PE cockpit anyway I think the PE was made for the newer mould it was so hard to fit(gave up on most of it) New aerials to build/fit and no pylons or smoke gennies. Screwed up the det cord lines in the canopy(again...how do you paint these without taking the paint off later?) Paints were Tamiya XF-61 dark Green with a drop of black and Vallejo MA 010 interior green. So slightly dissapointed by this build but here it is anyway, a 'problem shared' and all that !!
  17. Hi again Fellow Modellers, This is my first build in my new home, intended to be a bit of a mojo restorer however I tried to use Airwaves PE kit with it and disccovered that Mojo and photo-etch don't mix at all well First time with PE and couldn't work out whether you are supposed to stick the PE onto existing stuff or scrape/cut the plastic off, used only the seat belts in the end. The decals were from Sky models Spitfire sheet and paint is Tamiya and Vallejo MA. To me the tailwheel looks a bit long, this is the 'Project Airfix' edition that I think is based on the new tool. Thanks for looking........I know Airfix Mk1's are ten a penny after the Aldi/Daily Mail thingies. I've just noticed the engine has had a major oil-leak Either that or I've over-weathered again !!
