  1. Stunning work. The tie down points do stand out a bit. I know that they are not that obvious on the USS John f Kennedy. I would love this model in my collection. One of the best I have ever seen. Well done.
  2. Love the downed Star destroyer. I am curently doing a USS Reliant crash diorama along the same lines. Disney will make shed loads of money from this film. I hope they focus on the story rather than the merchandising opportunities. If they put in another Jaa Jaa Binks type I will leave the cinema. This is the perfect time to tie up this fragmented storyline and cater for the more mature fan. No more Ewoks I hope.
  3. Great kit. Well done. I have done a couple of these. Might do another with lighting.
  4. Thanks for the info. I live a few hundred yards from the real thing and will try to get a closer look at her deck. Lusty is currently tied up near the ferry port. I have a couple of contacts in the yard and may be able to get a close look at her. I am warming to the idea of leaving the deck blotchy and grubby.
  5. Hi Can anyone advise. Could i paint my HMS Illustrious deck with Tamiya x21? Will it damage the decals? The deck is looking a bit blotchy hence the thought of the clear flat application. Thanks
  6. Many thanks for the tips. Yes the drilling option now looks too much. I have counted the number of holes required, on the Monmouth, it would be around sixty per side. I will have to experiment.
  7. Thanks for any responses. This is my first time using PE parts, talk about a right PITA. I am also concerned about how to attach this stuff. Was thinking about drilling tiny holes along the gunwhale, anyone done this? I have ordered some PE rail and net from Antics and im dreading putting this stuff on. Any tips on handling PE?
  8. Hello I find myself here in the realm of the boat builders for the first time. I was wondering if there are any tips for constructing handrail for 1/350 ships. I have a Trumpeter HMS Monmouth kit. If anyone has any tips on this kit, they would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Spelling mistake. This is the USS ILYUSHIN after Vladimir Sergeyevich Ilyushin. He may have been the first man in space. Anyway, about to start some more paint in the hull. Will use some filler to build up a little around the damaged sections to replicate melting of the plating. Hole in the saucer with support struts on show. You can also see how naff the decals are in this shot. They will be removed.
  10. here are a few piccys of my attempt to rescue the Reliant model that I managed to screw up. I have renamed her the USS Ilyshin, after the cosmonaut not the aircaft designer. Sorry for the poor photos they will get better. As you can see there is massive damage to the primary hull and one warp nacelle completely gone. This is early experimentation with paint and decals. The decals I will remove. They are printed on vinyl and the edges stand out too much. I have ordered some water slide decal paper to improve the look of them. Not sure about the blue areas they look too blue to me, may need to be toned down a bit. More detail to go into the damaged sections, bits of deck etc. A lot more to do. May put her on a dio base, crashed rather than derelict in space. Any Ideas would be great.
  11. Sorry. As I was saying I dont have much patience and that goes for reading threads properly. This kit is made for lighting. If you ever do another you can get all the lighting you need from Poundland. They do rear bicycle lights with the HD leds and flasher circuits you need to put in this kit. At a £1 a time you cant make that stuff cheaper. I will never go to Maplin again for Lighting stuff for kits.
  12. Like it. Is that Tamiya tape? Must have taken ages to do. I would never have the patience to do that. I am currently doing two USS Reliant kits. One is badly damaged and the other just building the lighting. I have thought long and hard about aztecing but still not sure about the finish. In the movies the aztec pattern is sometimes almost invisible. Are there lights on this kit?
  13. WOW. lot of names there. Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of a USS ASHOKA. I have always thought that a starship name should be of something representative and worthy of human or federation achievements or honouring a person with a space exploration or space technology link. How would you explain the name USS Lexington or Valley forge to an alien race, 'ohh thats where some of us had a fight once'. I think a name should sound good also, you would not want to open a negotiation with the words ' I am captain Smith of the USS Honey Boo Boo'. Off now to the printer to set up some decals and see what some of these names look like in print. I have managed to find a great font online called Final Frontier which is just the ticket for starship decals.
  14. I will try again, Hi Been a while since I have worked on this project. I have started to adapt this kit to a damaged starship. Lots of destruction, huge holes in the primary hull etc. I need to think up a new name for this one. Looked at the Memory Alpha list of starship names, lots of Americana in there. Anyone have any ideas for a catchy starship name? Something representative of the whole earth or federation, no USS Paris Hiltons.
