I've always thought the Messerschmitt Bf.109 looked ugly, primarily because of the flimsy looking undergear, but this release makes me want to go get this model.

Q: What has been done to the plastic mold here in my uploaded image, what is the lightly colored goo there? Is that putty used to fill grooves in the plastic? If so, why? -
1/32 - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II by Revell - released
Decoman replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
I have noticed on the IX verions that the IX has a small lid on the upper side of each wing, that afaik indicate to the pilot if the flaps are down. I think I can see that lid on this earlier version in one of the pictures on page 1, but don't know if the earlier versions had that. Does anyone know? It looks like this lid is simply molded together with the rest of the wing on this model by the looks of the sprues. -
"Sky Fighters" 2005 (French, nice footage, not-so-good-story, sort of contemporary theme) "By dawns early light" 1990 (thriller made for tv, last seen released for VHS, cold war theme) I've always liked "Battle of Britain". "Top gun" and "Iron eagle" was also fun movies when I was young particularily for seeing the F-14's and the F-16's. Always irked me to see fake aircraft in movies though. F-5 being called Mig's for example. :| Edit: I also liked "Air America", w. Mel Gibson and more.

How did you paint the cannon barrel? It looks particularily nice imo. This reminds me of the all-glass (pretty much) vitrine closet I have. Models look interesting even from afar. With a little light nearby shining downwards onto the models, the stuff looks great, particularily the silvery models that give off highlights. I foremost like the model because of their minitaturization, and not so much for resembling realistic surfaces with the paint and whatnot. I recommend getting a set of sanding sticks if you don't have any. Looks like you haven't sanded the front of the barrel.

Woow. I really like the winter color scheme here. -
I imagine it is a good idea to test and try an airbrush on old models, or even non finished models. Some of the kits I bought doesn't appeal to me after I have had a good look at the spruces.

Any recommendations for a Liberty class freighter kit?
Decoman replied to Decoman's topic in Maritime WWII
Nice. Thanks for the feedback. -
I am going to assume there might be at least one such kit somewhere. Never saw one in my favourite hobby store though. Anyone know of any kit of the Liberty class freighter that they can recommend? Suppose the scale ought to be at least 1:700 in size.

1/24 scale..... What more can Airfix offer ?
Decoman replied to Radpoe Spitfire's topic in Aircraft WWII
I would never go buy a 1:24 kit for a medium or large sized aircraft, too big for my taste. I do would like to see a 1:24 Bell 412, that is properly detailed and not simply a scaled up version from some other kit or having been so abstracted as to leaving the door knobs being a mere lump bulging out on the doors. Rotor head and details shouldn't be a single molded part. My impression of huey models (I am no expert on this but) is that they are too poorly detailed. Edit: I would personally like to see a really nice and super detailed FRS1 Sea Harrier in 1:24 scale. Edit2: Nevermind the Bell 412. I've seen some other product in smaller scale and it seemed as if the product had to be licenced. I don't like that. -
Doing a search now I finally see a store that has that. First time ever I found any Microset/Microsol in my country on the internet. www.togbutikken.no (Vestfold)
-
When liquids are banned in shipiments only terrorists can use microset µsol? How the hell am I supposed to aquire these products in Scandinavia? Afaik it is not allowed to ship liquids to customers in Europe.

need help: the nuclear weapon's impact on economy?
Decoman replied to Physics1993's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
What do you mean by "nuclear weapons"? What are you trying to say? You are not making much sense I am afraid and I would have to guess at what you are actually asking for. Did you intend to talk about the impact on an economy from designing, manufacturing, deploying and storing nuclear weapon munitions? -

Wow. What a nice looking model. I really like how the tank is not overly weathered down. -
@bootneck I would think that, If you apply a big patch of masking tape, AND then cut a couple of nice circles AND then remove the ring-part, I imagine that would look really nice. I don't know if it would be easy to instead have the circles cut on a big patch of masking tape AND then somehow have those three parts moved onto a model AND THEN remove the ring part for airbrushing. Looks like I have to go find a punch set. Painting black rings by hand on a lot of tank wheels wasn't too fun, I really have to get a punch set.

I wonder, how do people make masking tape for circular windows and circular shapes in general? Can't help but thinking that it would be difficult cutting a perfect circle off a piece of masking tape. I suspect one could find some kind of tool that stamps out perfect circular patches of masking tape, but where could I find such tools? Arrgh. Also, wtf is this thing called in English? And can I get one with a blade on it?

Getting back into modelling - Airbus 319
Decoman replied to flexi's topic in Modern - 1969 and onwards
Essential tools: • sanding sticks (nail files might perhaps be cheaper, they look similar I think, also used for polishing the plastic as a final effort) • masking tape (e.g Tamyia masking tape) • airbrush and compressor (still haven't gotten myself this yet and it is annoying) When/if cutting loose photo etched parts, don't use a scissor or anything like that for cutting loose the parts, the plate will bend and curl up. Use a scalpel blade to cut loose the photo etched parts, and then use a designated file to file the parts clean while holding the parts with some FLAT pliers (jewelry pliers I think it says in my hobby shop, pink handle). Nowadays, the plastic kits sold in stores might be of greatly differing quality, because of how really old kits are resold today in some fancy new package. Might be a good idea to look for news regarding new releases. I was happy buying this Sovremenny class destroyer 1:350 kit from Trumpeter recently. It has lots of photo etched parts and iirc is a "new-tooling" release from 2011 unless I am mistaken. Trumpeter also sell a WW2 British destroyer "Eskimo", but it lacks most of the railings (only photo etched parts for some parts of that boat, don't know why the rest was missing).- 20 replies

I recommend not using the masking parts for the canopy if painting with a brush. I mean I used the ones that followed with the 1:72 TIE fighter kit and it ended up being a mess.

I keep reading about this Clear Klear product. Sadly I have no idea how to get this marverous acrylic based product anywhere in my country. No chance I can have it shipped overseas either.

I am curious to learn if one may well airbrush a model using matte paint or if it would be necessary to use glossy paint to get a more smooth surface that one can apply a decal on. The goal would be to apply decals without ending up with 'silvering'.

What kind of gray color is this I wonder? (Just not sure if I have a suitable bottle of paint for a similar hue.)

I will say that the mysterious tube starship from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) is the worst. On second thought, I guess this might be a probe and not something that qualifies as being a starship.

I think would like to see vaccuum form like canopy pieces, where the surrounding plastic has a recess in it for the thinner plastic to fit into, and where the framing are thicker plastic parts. Presumably those thing pieces of plastic look more realistic, though I do realize that a clear part of a canopy should perhaps represent thick bullet proof glass. I was happy to see that Hasegawa had the window wipers as separate pieces (photo etched parts). My Bell 212 heli (1:48 dont recall the manufacturer) has those wipers shaped with the entire clear canopy piece.
